The pavement performance model is the most important factor to determine the pavement life in the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG). As part of Korean Pavement Research Program (KPRP), the Korean Pavement Design Guide (KPDG) is currently being developed based on mechanistic-empirical principle. In this paper, the rutting prediction model of asphalt mixtures, one of the pavement performance model, has been developed using triaxial repeated loading testing data. This test was conducted on various types of asphalt mixtures for investigating the rutting characteristics by varying with the temperature and air void. The calibration process was made for the coefficients of rutting prediction model using the accelerated pavement testing data. The accuracy of prediction model can be increased when by considering the effect of individual rutting properties of materials rather than shear stresses with depths.

In general, under the repetitive dynamic load generated by rail cars running on the track, subgrade soil experiences changes of stress conditions such as deviatoric stress (${\sigma}_d$) and bulk stress (${\theta}$). Due to the repetitive change of deviatoric stress (${\sigma}_d$) with number of loadings, the resilient modulus ($M_R$) can be obtained by using the measured resilient strain (${\varepsilon}_r$) after a sufficient number of loadings. At present, no plausible and unified test method has been proposed to obtain the resilient modulus of railway track subgrade soil. In this study, a possible test method for obtaining the resilient modulus ($M_R$) of railway track subgrade soil is proposed; this test, by utilizing repetitive triaxial compression testing, can consider all the important parameters, such as the confining stress, deviatoric stress, and number of loadings. By adapting and using the proposed test method to obtain $M_R$, $M_R$ values for compacted track subgrade soil can be successfully determined using soil obtained in three field sites of railway track construction with changing water content range from OMC. In addition, shear modulus (G) ~ shear strain (${\gamma}$) relation data were also obtained using a mid-size RC test. A correlation analysis was performed using the obtained G and $M_R$ values while considering the strain levels and modes of strain direction.

This study intends to evaluate of the characteristics of pavement deformation and develop the model for prediction model in the asphalt layer using a regression analysis. In test, there are two different asphalt binders and 5 different aggregate types. The air voids of hot mix asphalt are 6% and 10% for target value. Repeated triaxial compression test with 3 different confining pressures was used for test at 3 different test temperatures. It is going to verify the main parameters for permanent deformation of HMA and to develop the distress model. This paper is to figure out the factor affecting the pavement deformation, and then to develop model the pavement deformation for asphalt mixture. Also, the reliability of prediction model has been studied. The permanent deformation prediction model for asphalt mixtures with temperature, loading time, and air voids has been developed and the proposed permanent deformation prediction model has been validated by using the multiple regression approach which is called Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS).

In this study, the modified cyclic triaxial tests with Joomunjin standard sand are performed for dynamic deformation characteristics, such as Young's moduli and damping ratio. The cyclic triaxial test is equipped with Local Displacement Transducer (LDT) on the outside of a cell which has a range from $10^{-4}$ to $10^{-1}$ of shear strains, ${\gamma}$ (%), instead of conventional cyclic triaxial test which has linear variable displacement transducer (LVDT) with low precision. With the small strain control, tests were carried out at various loading rates, void ratios, and effective confining pressures. Based on the test results, such as dynamic deformation characteristics, shear modulus, and damping ratio, it is found that the test can measure more range of medium strains (0.02-0.2%) than results obtained from conventional test (resonant column test). For the medium strain range, dynamic deformation characteristics investigated by the cyclic triaxial test are also different from those predicted by nonlinear model in conventional test.
Formation used as trackbed foundation for providing vertical bearing capacity onto rail foundation are composed of crushed stones usually with certain type of grain size distribution. Permanent deformation in trackbed foundation can be generated by increasing number of load repetition due to train traffic increases, causing track irregularity. In this study, a specially prepared trackbed foundation materials (M-40) used in Korea has been tested using a large repetitive triaxial compression apparatus in order to understand resilient and permanent deformation characteristics of the material. From these test results, resilient and permanent deformation characteristic are analyzed so that a permanent deformation model is developed which can consider number of load repetition N, confining stress (${\sigma}_3$), shear stress ratio(${\tau}/{\tau}_f$) and stiffness of the material.

The permanent deformation of asphalt pavement is one of the most important load-related distresses in asphalt pavement. In order to evaluate the permanent deformation, the repeated triaxial load test with different temperature and air void of hot mix asphalt was carried out. The permanent deformation prediction model has been validated by the multiple regression approach and the artificial neural networks.
If the railways consisting of soil subgrade is applied to repetitive loading, elastic deformation and plastic deformation will occur at the same time. So the repeat traffic loading condition should be considered to predict the long-term deformation on railway roadbed. In this study, laboratory data from the repeated load triaxial tests and cylinder model test were used to predict accumulated settlement on railway foundation and results were analyed based on the nonliear models and stress state considered. It has proposed predict model using power function model on plastic settlement of roadbed materials.
This study developed a permanent deformation model for asphalt concrete based on shear properties. Repeated load triaxial compression (RLTC), triaxial compressive strength, and indirect tension strength tests were performed for the three types of asphalt mixtures at various loading and temperature conditions to correlate shear properties of asphalt mixtures to rutting performance. For the given mixtures, as testing temperature increased, cohesion decreased, but friction angle was insensitive to temperature at $40^{\circ}C$ or higher. It was observed that deviatoric stress, confining pressure, temperature, and load frequency affected the permanent deformation of asphalt mixtures significantly. The permanent deformation model based on shear stress to strength ratio and loading time was developed using the laboratory test results and calibrated using accelerated pavement test data. The proposed model was able to predict the permanent deformation of the asphalt mixtures in a wide range of loading and temperature conditions with constant model coefficients.
SCP is a construction method that maximizes the effects of ground improvement by creating sand piles, which are formed by the compaction within soft ground. SCP is mainly used for consolidation and drain effects in clayey soils, and as a liquefaction countermeasure through effects such as compaction in loose sandy soils. In the design of SCP, if the sand piles with high stiffness are not taken into account, it can become a design that overly considered safety, and increased construction costs are highly likely to cause economic disadvantages. The changes in stress conditions and compaction mechanisms in the subsurface have been identified to a certain extent by study findings to date. However, the studies that considered SCP and in-situ ground as composite ground are fairly limited, and therefore, those studies have not achieved enough results to fully explain the relevant topics. In this study, the ground improved by SCP was regarded as the composite ground that consists of SCP and in-situ ground. Moreover, employing a CID test, this study examined the changes in the stress conditions of in-situ ground according to the installation of SCP through the relations between $K_0$ and SCP replacement ratio. At the same, whether the SCP installation procedure can be recreated in a laboratory was examined using a cyclic triaxial test. According to the test results, the changes in the stress conditions of the original ground occurred most largely in an initial stage of SCP installation, and after a certain time point, the vibration for SCP installation did not have a great influence on the changes in the stress conditions of the ground. Moreover, in order to recreate the behaviors of in-suit ground according to SCP in a laboratory, cyclic loading, which corresponds to casing vibration, was concluded to be essentially required.
Ground failure by liquefaction can occur not only during shaking but also as the result of the post-liquefaction process after an earthquake. During the process of ground deformation and failure, excess pore water pressure in soil is redistributed, which can then lead to changes in the effective stress of soils. Therefore, in order to provide a further understanding of the phenomenon, we have to estimate the properties of effective stress during the recompression process in post-liquefaction as well, not only the total amount of pore water drained. The primary objectives of this study are to determine and compare the recompression properties in the post-liquefaction process in terms of the relationship between volumetric strains and mean effective stresses under the various conditions of relative density and shear stress history. In all experimental cases, the volumetric strains increase greatly in the low effective stress level, almost to the zero zone, and granite soil, which has fine grains, undergoes gradual changes in the relationship between volumetric strains and mean effective stresses compared with fine sand. And, we can also find that recompression properties in the post-liquefaction process by cyclic loading depend highly on the dissipation energy and maximum shear strain, and this fact can be obtained in all cases regardless of the existence of fine content, relative density, and loading history. Especially, granite soil having fine grains can be defined uniformly in the relationship between dissipation energy and maximum volumetric strain, while fine sand cannot be so uniformly defined.
