  • The purpose of this study is to develop a GIS-based digital Forest Land-use(FLU) Map Building Process which will be adopted as the map publishment methodology for the official FLU Map notification in 2007. The process is composed of 6 steps, extracting forest lands from Continuous Land Map(CLM), extracting forest land borders restricted by other laws, extracting boundaries between semi- and reserve forest lands, making digital FLU map by integrating spatial and attribute data among the extractions, printing FLU map and FLU register, and re-correcting zoning errors. Through the process, in 1:25,000 and 1:5,000 scale, 14 and 173 sheets of the FLU Maps and it's register were created for the whole area of Hwaseong, Kyunggi.

  • Construction of road closed to mountains is inevitable in Korea because the mountainous region in Korea is more than 70% in area. Recently, due to global warming, typhoons or heavy rainfalls frequently occur, and accordingly, mountain roads are seriously damaged by landslides, debris flows, and uplift pressure below pavement. in this study, damage on pavement by uplift pressure was investigated. Various influencing factors such as slope angle, reinforcement of slope surface, thickness of soil cover underlain by rock, and types of drainage system were considered to evaluate uplift pressure acting on the bottom of pavement. Raising of water table up to the surface of slope may depend on the duration and intensity of rainfall. It shows that the installation of subdrain can reduce the uplift water pressure. Therefore, It is concluded that the use of subdrain system is effective to decrease uplift pressure and cement treated base is more endurable than typical crushed-stone base.

  • The technique of mountain ordering developed by Yamada(1999) has been tested to two small islands (Namhaedo: 301km2, Geojedo: 378km2). The results and experiences above were extended and applied to the whole area of the southern part of Korean Peninsula. Three areas such as Seorak-Taebaek Mountains, Jiri-Deogyu Mountains, and Youngnam Alps are identified as the highest, 5th order mountains. 10 areas are classified as the 4th order and 87 areas as the 3rd order. It is suggested that the 5th order mountains are related to the axis of uplift and the 4th and 3rd order mountains have the same direction (NE-SW) as that of the secondary mountain systems in the Korean Peninsula. The logarithmic values of number, area, and relative altitude of the ordered mountains have the linear relationship with the order, as the laws of stream order. The several mountains which are not included in the existing mountain systems could be identified among the ordered mountains, and those mountains could be used as the basis to understand the geological structure of the Korean Peninsula. Most of the National Parks and the Provincial Parks are distributed on the 3rd, 4th, 5th order mountains. It is especially confirmed that the Songnisan National Park take a role to link the Seorak-Taebaek Mountains and Jiri-Deogyu Mountains as a important ecological axis. Therefore, it would be validated that the technique of mountain ordering has the practical values as well as the geomorphological significances.

  • The purpose of the present study is to trace the provenance of lead raw materials using the lead isotope ratio of 9 lead glasses excavated from the Sarira hole of Mireuksaji stone pagoda and to determine correlation between them and other lead glasses excavated from the Wanggungri site. The results of chemical analysis of the 9 lead glasses show that they are common lead glass system($PbO-SiO_2$) with respect to the contents of PbO (70 wt.%) and $SiO_2$ (30 wt.%). The lead isotope ratios of them plot to northern Korean peninsula when applied to the distribution map of lead isotopes of East Asia. On the other hand, southern Korean peninsula is verified as the main deposits of the lead ore in the distribution map of lead isotopes of South Korea. With respect to the results, it is notable that the provenance of the 9 lead glasses can be very different depending on the distribution map. In addition, a comparative study between them and the lead glasses excavated from the Wanggungri which was built in the same region and period shows that their lead isotopes are highly correlated.

  • The objectives of this research are to develop hazard prediction map S/W for mountain river road. This mountain river road disaster happens by debris flow, landslide, debris accumulation and this cause are locally rainfall and heavy rainfall. System is constructed to GIS base. This research app lied to Kangwondo. We developed protocol to analyze calamity danger in mountain district area and examined propriety system. Furthermore examined the DB required and expression plan for hazard map creation SW construction by mountain rivers road.

  • Geology and stromatolite fossil localities of Socheong Island are reviewed on the basis of previous studies and recent field survey. A new fossil locality of stromatolites which are very well preserved is recognized in Bunam area, northeast of Socheong Island. An outcrop composed of sandstone and shale alternations which exhibit well-developed laminations and folds is also found in the east of the Socheong harbor, and it is regarded as one of the symbolic features of the geology in Socheong Island. Stromatolite fossil localities of Socheong Island contains diverse and well-preserved Late Proterozoic stromatolites which are correlated with those from the Mukchon and Myoraksan series of the Sangwon System and diverse sedimentary structures such as ripple marks, desiccation cracks, and raindrop imprints. Stromatolites of Socheong Island, the oldest fossil Natural Monument of Korea, should be preserved at the national level, and continued intensive research must be conducted.

  • The type of forestland value was evaluated using various thematic maps, satellite images, and aerial photograph of Namyangju, Based on GIS analysis, forestland value was classified into 4 kind types; conservation, production, recreation, and development values. Finally, the comprehensive analysis map of forestland value was made according to the priority order of value assessment. Among the whole forestland of Namyangju, conservation value area is $195km^2$, high production value area $96km^2$ except the conservation value area, high recreation value area $59km^2$, and the high development value area is $11km^2$. Henceforward, The value evaluation system of forestland by using GIS is to be very applicable for the scientific management of forestland, according to the periodic data update.
