Among the sub-dimensions of social anxiety, negative and positive adaptation were significantly predicted only by anticipatory anxiety. And there were significant positive correlations between social anxiety and aggressive/give-up response. Particularly, personal anxiety was the predictor of aggressive response, but safe anxiety and political anxiety were the predictors of give-up response. The dimension predicted the aggressive/give-up response was anticipatory anxiety dimension. Finally, respondents used problem solving stress coping strategy most. But the respondents whose social anxiety level especially safe anxiety and political anxiety were high used wishful thinking strategy. • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of decentering and self-silencing in a relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. We predicted self-silencing would function as a mediator in this relationship, and that decentering would moderate this mediation effect. To investigate this aim, three hundred seven university students were surveyed. All variables showed statistically significant correlations, and there was no statistically significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. Conversely, this study showed that there was a significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between self-silencing and social anxiety. In addition, socially prescribed perfectionism affected social anxiety through self-silencing, and decentering moderated the mediating effect of self-silencing. Implications and potential follow-up studies are discussed.

  • This study examined the mediating effects of fear of negative evaluation(FNE), fear of positive evaluation(FPE) and disqualification of positive social outcomes(DPSO) on the relationship between public self-consciousness(PSC) and social anxiety(SA) among college students. In this study, SA was divided into social interaction anxiety(SIA) and performance anxiety(PA). Participants included 316 undergraduates who completed a survey. There were three major results. First, PSC, SIA, PA, FNE, FPE and DPSO were positively correlated with each other. Second, FNE, FPE and DPSO had significant mediating effects on the relationship between PSC and SA. Third, when FNE, FPE and DPSO mediated the relationship between PSC and SA, the effect on PA was significantly greater than the effect on SIA, and in the path mediated by FNE, the effect on SIA was greater than the effect on PA. This paper discusses the findings and implications of this study.

  • Objective : The present study investigated the interpretation bias and expectation and judgemental bias of performance in socially anxious children. Method : Children with high social anxiety (n=18) and low social anxiety (n=16) were recruited through self-report and peer nomination, Participants performed three tasks to assess for cognitive bias. The first task measured interpretation of ambiguous social situations. The second task measured expectations regarding performance in a three minute impromptu speech. The third task assessed for judgemental bias via comparison between post-speech self rating and observer rating. Result : Children with high social anxiety did not differ significantly from low social anxiety children on the dependent measures assessing bias in interpretation, expectation and judgement. However, a significant difference was found in the judges' rating of children's performances on the speech task, with high social anxiety children obtaining significantly lower scores compared to low social anxiety children. Conclusion : The role of cognitive biases in the development and maintenance of social anxiety in children was discussed.

This study is significant in that fear of evaluation and test anxiety of nursing students are verified to be factors affecting social anxiety. We suggest that a social anxiety intervention program be developed and applied for nursing students. A questionnaire was conducted on 319 university students and the data was analyzed with Pearson's correlation and regression. As a result, there was a positive correlation between Fear of Negative Evaluation and Social Interaction Anxiety. Also, Fear of Negative Evaluation and Social Interaction Anxiety were positively correlated with Self-Discouragement and negatively correlated with Self-Encouragement. Next, multiple regression showed that Self-Discouragement has a perfect mediating effect and Self-Encouragement has a partial mediating effect on the Relationship between Fear of Negative Evaluation and Social Interaction Anxiety. These results imply that counselee with Social Interaction Anxiety can be treated effectively by promoting self-encouragement.

  • The study was conducted to determine the process of social anxiety among male high school students with prescribed internalized shame. In order to carry out the purposes of research, the study set a model which supposes that perfectionistic self-presentation is mediator between internalized shame and social anxiety. A total of 382 high school students participated in the study. The results of the study are as follows: First, the results of this study showed that the internalized shame and social anxiety appear to have a significant static correlation. In particular, the sense of inadequacy, which is a subordinate concept of the internalized shame, was correlated with social anxiety. Second, perfectionistic self-presentation showed a partially mediated the relationship between internalized shame and perfectionistic self-presentation. These results should be studied not only in cognitive factors contributing to social anxiety but also in the individual inner workings of psychological factors.

  • In this study, we looked at the relationship among the anxiety, social support and trust experienced by the general public during the pandemic situation (COVID-19), and confirmed the effect of trust to the relationship between social support and anxiety. First, the correlations analysis that was performed to identify the relationship among the variables showed negative correlation between social support and anxiety. While it was also found that social support showed positive correlations with social trust, no significant correlations were shown with regards to government trust. Furthermore, government trust and social trust showed negative correlations with anxiety. Second, the regression analysis was conducted to verify the hypothesis that social support would affect anxiety through social trust. It showed that social trust partly mediated in the relationship between social support and anxiety. Based on the results above, the discussions and suggestions were presented throughout the study.
