Perceived social support from care teacher, internal locus of control, and school adjustment were measured by self-reports of institutionalized children. The data were analyzed, in SPSS Win program, by Cronbach's α, T-test, Pearson Correlations, Simple Regression, Hierarchical Multiple Regression. As expected, results confirm that perceived social support was associated positively with internal locus of control and school adjustment. further, perceived social support also exerts indirect effects on school adjustment, mediated by internal locus of control. However, none of these variables differed by gender and the duration in the institution.

  • Present study investigated the effects of poverty and poverty-co-factors in childhood. The effect of poverty status was measured by needs-income ratio. It compared its effect on children's socio-emotional development with that of poverty proxy variables such as recipient of public assistance, financial stress, subjective perception about social class, residence in public housing. It also examined the effects of poverty-co-factors after poverty status were controlled. Results show that poverty status has a more consistent negative relationship with socio-emotional development than other proxy variables. However, the relationship between them disappeared after poverty-co-factors were controlled. Findings from the present study suggest that targeted efforts for decreasing poverty-co-factor risks should be made along with financial support.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of nutrient intake and dietary diversity score (DDS) on osteoporosis after controlling for sex, age, socioeconomic level, drinking, smoking, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI) as mediators using the 2015-2017 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data. Methods: This study was focused on the age group of 50s and older by using the 2015-2017 KNHANES data. Subjects diagnosed with osteoporosis were classified as the osteoporosis group, and the other subjects were classified as the normal group. Logistic regression was used to assess the association between nutrient intake and DDS after controlling for mediators. Results: The risk of osteoporosis was 2.38 times lower in the 50-65 age group than in the 75 years and older group. The mediators affecting the incidence of osteoporosis by age group were sex, age, household income level, and education level in the 50-64 age group; sex, education level, drinking, and BMI in the 65-74 age group; and sex, age, current smoking, drinking, BMI, and energy intake in the 75 years and older group. The effect of nutrient intake on osteoporosis, with the exception of vitamin B1, was fully mediated by these mediators. The effect of vitamin B1 was partially mediated by mediators in the age group of 65-74 years, and vitamin B1 was effective for preventing the risk of osteoporosis by 25% when consumed over EAR. The effect of DDS was partially mediated in the age group of 75 years and older, and DDS of 2 or less increased the risk of osteoporosis by 2.59 times. Conclusion: As a result of this study, it is necessary to recommend the balanced intake of various foods including grains, meat·fish·legumes, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products as dietary guidelines for the prevention of osteoporosis and promotion of bone health in the elderly.

The result of investigation revealed that social skill development programs should be held in form of total 11~12 sessions once or twice in a week, with 50~60 minutes per session. Third, based on the literature review and current situation investigation results, a program for improving social skills and competencies of children was developed. To verify the program, two groups composed of elementary children who are fourth grade to sixth grade were organized. The groups were a experimental group which was provided with a group counselling program and a control group with no program. The program was composed of twelve sessions throughout six weeks, and the subjects took social skill test after taking the program to verify educational effects. T-test were implemented to analyze difference of the test results of two groups statistically. As a result of a research, following major two findings were specified: (1) experimental group showed significant difference in the score of self-assertion, cooperation, and self-control, which indicates that the program was effective for social skill improvement: (2) according to the test result, the self-assertion, cooperation, and self-control skills were clearly improved. In conclusion, the program turned out to be an effective and a positive educational device to enhance social skills of the children. The program developing model were suggested to improve social skills of children in the state of family devision based on the study findings. The follow-up future studies should elaborate program models for various-aged children and for children with various learning styles. Furthermore, qualitative study method should be employed which can specify social attitude change of children.

  • This study criticizes the wave of liberalization, privatization, thoughtless and uncontrolled over-competition in the electronic communication networks area. This criticism is based on the 'transport economics' on one side, the 'network neutrality debate' on the other side. Through these standpoints, this study insists that it needs to deal with a social agenda related to the problems such as unplanned and unbalanced development of electronic communication networks, double/tripple-investment in the communication industry, conflicts among network companies and the decline of public values. Also does this study stress on the new ideas in the electronic communication network policy and planning to manage these problems. Electronic communication networks are converging and their borders are blurred. As a result of these flows, the field of information technology, media and contents is faced with radical changes. These changes could be so critical and complicated that nobody can diagnose their multi-level implications. However, the one thing sure is that we should start from the communication networks to think and control a communication system. Therefore, we should discuss and plan the now-and-future of communication infrastructure and its management. we need not only a market mentality but also a socio-cultural mentality. In this respect, this study does insist that it requires the vision of digital democracy and democratic communication ecology to put the steps toward social communication system.
