  • The purpose of this study is twofold: (i) to develop a teaching and learning plan and practical performance assessment tools for the improvement of teenager-parent communication and relationships as well as explore their effects on the communication in the everyday family life; and (ii) to find the underlying problems of teenager- parent communication through conversation analysis and to provide a improved dialogue model. We provided the experimental group with a performance task of communication training between teenagers and their parents in the real family situation while the control group practiced communication skills in a learning situation. However for both classes, before and after performance tasks were equally provided. The experimental group exhibited a longer conversation time with their parents, better communication skills, and higher degrees of relational satisfaction than the control group. Conversation analysis revealed that the experimental group reduced the use of blocking techniques in the teenager-parent conversations more than the control group, and all so raised the frequency of functional communications more than the control group. In both areas of communication in the experimental group was significantly improved, Most notably, a problem-solving case through no-lose conflict resolution methods was effective, succeeding by 70% in the e experimental group and 43.3% in the control group. Parents use blocking techniques like admonition, lecturing, blaming. sarcastic remarking, ordering and so forth, while teenagers use dispute, avoidance, blaming, and teasing in this order. The communication problems during the conversation process, teenagers' evasive and rebellious way of speaking instigates adverse communication responses from parents, so their conversation tends to unfold as ambiguous evasion opposed to: inquiring or evasion by short answers vs. ordering-preaching, or disputing vs. criticizing-making sarcastic, disputing vs. disputing-teaching, and criticizing vs. criticizing.

Conceptual framework was based on the positive psychotherapy and a broad range of intervention techniques of the solution focused therapy was integrated into the program by using assimilative integration methods. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent comparison group design was used to test the effects of the program. The newly developed group program was implemented to the intervention group and a reminiscence group program was implemented to the comparison group for 10-session. And no intervention group received only home-based routine care services as usual. Results suggested that the newly developed program was effective in increasing the level of subjective well-being, and decreasing the depressive symptoms of the low-income depressed elderly women living alone. After the literature therapy program was conducted for elementary students, post-test was conducted. The results of the study are as follows. First, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the comparative group in the post-test immediately after the end of the program, but in the follow-up test performed 5 weeks after the counseling, the average of the peer relations of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the comparative group. Second, in the post-test, there was no significant difference between the experimental group and the comparative group in the "intimacy" sub-area of the peer relationship, but in the follow- up test, the "intimacy" sub-region average of the experimental group was significantly higher than the comparative group. Third, the level of 'interest' among the peer relationship sub-domains of the experimental group showed a significant difference in the follow-up test. As a result, literature therapy had no immediate effect on the improvement of friendship among adolescents, but it was effective after a long time.

  • The major purposes of this study are to examine the effects of portfolio assessment on elementary school student's science knowledge, inquiry ability, science attitudes and to investigate students' perceptions on portfolio assessment. Control group consists of 45 fourth-graders at M-Elementary school located at Miwon, Chongwon-gun, Chung-buk and experimental group 36 fourth-graders of G-Elementary school located in Daejeon-si. The inventories of scientific knowledge I, inquiry ability, and science attitudes were administered to both groups as a pre-test. The experimental group was given portfolio assessment instruction and control group traditional instruction for about six weeks. Inventories about scientific knowledge 2, inquiry ability, and science attitudes were administered to both groups as a post-test. A questionnaire on the perception on portfolio assessment was given to experimental group after the treatment. The results were statistically analyzed with SPSS. Control group showed higher score on scientific knowledge than that of experimental group (p<0.5). No statistically meaningful difference was identified in inquiry ability and scientific attitude. More in-depth analysis revealed that scientific attitudes were improved statistically meaningfully by portfolio assessment. The students' perceptions on portfolio assessment is very positive. Students have positive responses on interests in portfolio assessment, feelings of involvement in learning, self-regulated learning, higher levels of thinking, intentions of participation in portfolio assessment.
