Development of the Automated Irrigation Management System for Paddy Fields (논 물 관리의 자동화시스템 개발)

  • This paper is to validate the proposed models for the real-time forecasting for the Keum river estuary dam such as tidal-level forecasting model, one-dimensional unsteady flood routing model, and Kalman filter models. The tidal-level forecasting model was based on semi-range and phase lag of four tidal constituents. The dynamic wave routing model was based on an implicit finite difference solution of the complete one-dimensional St. Venant equations of unsteady flow. The Kalman filter model was composed of a processing equation and adaptive filtering algorithm. The processng equations are second ordpr autoregressive model and autoregressive moving average model. Simulated results of the models were compared with field data and were reviewed.

  • Flexible circular cantilever beams when excited externally introduce a lot of dynamic characteristics. The non-linear elements that these flexible beams develop include non-linearity due to inertia terms, spring, and damping. They show different characteristics of motion from each other. In the modes of lower order, the non-linearity due to spring is prevalent, while the non-linearity due to inertia Is prevalent in the modes of higher order. To analyze these effects the non-linear phenomena are analyzed experimentally. When the response characteristics of non-linear vibration are analyzed using autospectrum, it is possible to analyze the subharmonic and superharmonic mot ion by comparison. The phase change is analyzed using the method of phase portrait and the non-linear characteristics of response characteristics that are developed in flexible structures can be predicted and applied to the stage of design.

Prediction of the Ability of a Viscous Fluid Damper with Respect to Change of the Size of the Damper (점성 유체 감쇠기의 크기 변화에 따른 성능 변화 예측)

  • To reduce the vibration in industrial settings, the viscous fluid dampers have been widely used. Since the damper shows a viscoelastic behavior, many methods to predict the behavior have been investigated. But the methods did not consider a change of damper size that is important factor for practical design engineer. In this study, to predict a change of damper ability with respect to a change of damper size, the dynamic experiment were conducted with fixed aspect ratio and gap. The damping coefficient at zero frequency was computed through theoretical and experiment approach in order to fit the experimental results using fractional derivative Maxwell model.

  • We resolve the suboptimal $\infty$ control problem using (J,J')-lossless coprime factorization by transforming the linear fractional transformation (LFT) into chain scattering description (CSD) in discrete-time systems. The condition transformed LFT into CSD is that the inverse matrix of $P_{21}$ of standard plant exists. But, this paper presents the method of transforming LFT into CSD for 4-block problem in case that the inverse matrix of $P_{21}$ of standard plant does not exist and parameterization of the all suboptimal $\infty$T controllers using (J,J')-lossless coprime factorization. It is shown that this method can resolve the suboptimal $\infty$ control problem solving only two Riccati equations in discrete-time systems.

An Analysis on Elementary Mathematics Curricula and Textbooks of 2009 Revised Version in Korea - Four Issues to Be Improved (2009 개정 초등학교 수학과 교육과정 및 교과서 분석 -개선을 위한 네 가지 문제점-)

  • In Korea, the school mathematics curricula have been revised in every average 6 years by the government. From the year 2013, the new revised curricula called 2009 version are implied. The subject of elementary mathematics in this new curricula contains four issues to be improved. First, it should be allowed to call the basic figures such as box, cylinder, ball, quadrilateral, triangle and circle in verbal languages. Second, the name of the activities to define mathematical concepts should be changed from 'Yaksok', which means 'promise' in English, to a better and more honest one. Third, the concave polygons should be treated together with the convex ones. Fourth, the calculations of fractions should be weakened as much as possible for the elementary school children.

  • In this paper, we propose a stochastic finite element formulation which takes into account the randonmess in the material and geometrical parameters. The formulation is proposed for plate structures, and is based on the weighted integral approach. Contrary to the case of elastic modulus, plate thickness contributes to the stiffness as a third-order function. Furthermore, Poisson's ratio is even more complex since this parameter appears in the constitutive relations in the fraction form. Accordingly, we employ Taylor's expansion to derive decomposed stochastic field functions in ascending order. In order to verify the proposed formulation, the results obtained using the proposed scheme are compared with those in the literature and those of Monte Carlo analysis as well.

Estimation of Final Deformation of Hard Rock Tunnel Using Early Measured Deformation (초기계측치를 이용한 경암 지반내 터널의 최총변위량 예측)

  • To use the early measured data of tunnel deformation in but analysis, the relationship between these values find final deformation data were studied. Panet\`s exponential and fraction equations successfully approximate the convergence of the hard rock tunnels. Measured deformation data of ID location, $U_{1D}$ show that they can be lilted to linear equations but should not be used to estimate potential deformation before measurement, $C_{0}$. Early measured data $U_{1D}$ $U_{2D}$ , and final deformation $ U_{L}$ showed linear correlations. It proved that estimated data of final deformation from early measured ones can be used as input parameters for back analysis.

A Design of Wideband Frequency Synthesizer for Mobile-DTV Applications (Mobile-DTV 응용을 위한 광대역 주파수 합성기의 설계)

  • A Frequency synthesizer for mobile-DTV applications is implemented using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process with 1.8V supply. PMOS transistors are chosen for VCO core to reduce phase noise. The measurement result of VCO frequency range is 800MHz-1.67GHz using switchable inductors, capacitors and varactors. We use varactor bias technique for the improvement of VCO gain linearity, and the number of varactor biasing are minimized as two. VCO gain deterioration is also improved by using the varactor switching technique. The VCO gain and interval of VCO gain are maintained as low and improved using the VCO frequency calibration block. The sigma-delta modulator for fractional divider is designed by the co-simualtion method for accuracy and efficiency improvement. The VCO, PFD, CP and LF are verified by Cadence Spectre, and the sigma-delta modulator is simulated using Matlab Simulink, ModelSim and HSPICE. The power consumption of the frequency synthesizer is 18mW, and the VCO has 52.1% tuning range according to the VCO maximum output frequency. The VCO phase noise is lower than -100dBc/Hz at 1MHz at 1MHz offset for 1GHz, 1.5GHz, and 2GHz output frequencies.

Variation of time-dependent convection beat transfer coefficients in beat transfer analysis at various initial beating rates of tunnel fire scenarios (요소제거모델을 활용한 열전달해석에서 터널 화재이력곡선의 초기가열구배에 따른 대류열전달계수의 변화)

  • The initial heating rate is well known as one of the most influencing factors on the occurrence of spalling and the loss of strength in concrete after fire initiation. In this study, a series of fire tests were carried out at different initial heating rates to find out its effects on the deterioration of tunnel structural members. Heat transfer analyses combined with an element elimination model were also carried out to verify its applicability in the same conditions as the fire tests. Moreover, the convection heat transfer coefficients compatible with fire test results were derived from parametric studies. In this course, their time-dependent variations were also analyzed at different initial heating rates. Finally, a numerical formula to estimate the heat transfer coefficients at the various initial heating rates was proposed by the interpolation of the results of numerical analyses.

Efficient Contour Coding for Segmentation-Based Image Coding (분할 기반 영상 부호화를 위한 효율적 윤곽선 부호화)

  • The contour coding usually occupies the biggest part in the encoded bitstream, which causes the bottleneck problem of a region-based coding scheme. In this paper, new adaptive contour coding technique is proposed for the segmentation-based image coding. By adaptive contour coding considering contrast of neighbor regions in the proposed method, the overall bitrate can be significantly reduced without loss of the subjective image quality. After segmentation using watershed algorithm to the image, the contour segments are classified according to the contrast of the adjacent regions. Then, the contour segments between classified low contrast regions are highly compressed using morphological low pass filtering. The needed bits for encoding the contour information is reduced without loss of subjective image quality in the experiment.
