Effect of Intercropping System on the Population of Nematodes (작약(芍藥)에서 간작재배(間作栽培)가 선충(線蟲) 밀도(密度)에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to study the effect of intercropping system on the population of soil nematodes. The kinds of nematodes inhabitated in peony field were Meloidogyne sp., APhelenchoides sp., Ditylenchus sp., and Xiphinema sp., Meloidogyne sp., was dominant in the experiment field. The population of Meloidogyne sp., was fewer in the peony field intercropped with sesame and job's tear than intercropped with red pepper and Rehmannia glutinosa L. The occurence of powdery mildew was decreased in the peony field intercropped with red pepper and Job's tear.

Angular Leaf Spot of Strawberry Caused by Xanthomonas fragariae (Xanthomonas fragariae에 의한 딸기 세균성모무늬병)

  • Angular leaf spot of strawberry caused by Xanthomonas fragariae occurred sporadically in the farmers open field at Sugok-myon, Jinju city, and greenhouse at Okjong-myon, Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam province, Korea. Typical symptoms of angular leaf spot initially appeared as a minute, water-soaked, rotted lesion on the lower leaf surface and the minute spots expanded to form angular leaf spots, usually delimited by small veins. The lesion was translucent under the transmitted light and dark green under reflected light. The slow growing pathogen was a gram-negative, motile bacterium with single polar flagellum, and producing yellowish orange pigment on YDC medium. It showed very strong pathogenicity on the leaves of strawberry. On the basis of biological characteristics and pathogenicity test on host plants, the bacteria was identified as a Xanthomonas fragariae. This is the first report on angular leaf spot of strawberry caused by X. fragariae in Korea.

  • Recent worldwide demand for organic and sustainable agriculture products is driving the development of formulations of biopesticides effective in the field. Biopesticides have the benefit of environmentally-friendly qualities. However, biocontrol approaches largely have been ineffective in controlling plant pests in field conditions. Previously, we developed a cost-effective biocontrol formulation containing chitin and chitinase-producing biocontrol bacteria with field efficacy. This formulated product has successfully suppressed various plant diseases in the field conditions. In this review, we focus on ecological aspects and the potential mechanisms underpinning the success of chitinase-producing bacteria. In addition, we discuss the possibility on-site cultivation of the formulated products to further strengthen the approach as being farmer friendly and successful.

Ecology of Rhizome Rot Incidence of Ginger and Relation of Soil Texture, Chemistry and Biology (생강 근경부패병의 발생 생태 및 토성 , 토양화학성 및 토양 생물성과의 관계)

  • The ecology of rhizome rot incidence rates between Seosan, Chungnam and Bongdong, Chonbuk province were surveyed in this experiment. The rhizome rot incidence rate of Seosan was lower than that of Bongdong. The average ginger product of former province was 1,140kg, whereas it's 818kg per 10a. in latter province. Treatment after disease incidence frequently used fungicide at Seosan. There were different soil physiological property between fields. Although Eunhari and Yulsori were belong to Bongdong province, incidence rate was low at Eunhari, contained 23% clay and high incidence rate at Yulsori, approximately contained 60% silt. Many soil chemical properties of cultivated area were belong to optimum concentration range, but phosphate(P) was higher than optimum concentration, 450-550ppm. The number of soil fungi in the middle of cultivated season tended to show the highest. Both bacteria and actinomyces` number was similar to the result of fungi. The bacteria/fungi ratio was greatly different between surveyed fields.

Pathogen Physiology, Epidemiology and Varietal Resistance in White Rot of Apple (사과 흰빛썩음병백부병(白腐病)의 병원균(病原菌) 생리(生理), 포장(圃場)에서의 전염(傳染) 및 품종저항성(品種抵抗性))

  • Severity of incidence of white rot on apple fruit ranged from 5 to 16% and averaged 9% over major apple growing area in 1981. An isolate of Botryosphaeria ribis obtained from rotted apples developed lesions on leaves, branches and fruits of apple, pear, peach and grape in a series of wound inoculation test. B. ribis grew well on both potato sucrose agar and oatmeal agar. The best condition for vegetative growth on these two media was at $25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ pH 4 and $10{\sim}15%$ sucrose content under light illumination. Rot development on fruit was first observed in the orchard at early August when sugar content in fruit reached 9.0%. Thereafter, number of rotted apples increased as sugar content increased. There was no correlation between the pH of juice of fruit and rot incidence. Infection on fruit began to occur as early as mid-June when young fruits were formed and infections were continued until harvest. When apple fruits were collected at 10-day intervals from the orchard beginning from early June and were wound-inoculated with B. ribis, rot lesion developed regardless of the stage of fruit growth. Incidence of white rot in the orchard was severe on Golden-delicious and Yukou, intermediate on Aoli, Fugi and Indo, and least on Jonathan and Red-delicious.

Fungicide Effects in Vitro and in Field Trials on Fusarium Head Blight of Wheat (국내 발생 밀 붉은곰팡이병에 대한 약제의 배지상의 효과 검정과 포장 방제 약제 선발)

  • The objective of this research was to select effective fungicides for the control of Fusarium head bight (FHB) of wheat. We tested fourteen commercial fungicides against FHB in the laboratory and under field. Fludioxonil FS, Fludioxonil SC, and Benomyl + Thiram WP highly inhibited the mycelial growth of Fusarium graminearum on the medium while Oxine-copper WP, Thiophanate-methyl WP, and Copper hydroxide WP were not effective against FHB. To verify the disease control in field condition, we selected four fungicides such as Fludioxonil SC, Captan WP, Difenoconazole + propiconazole EC, and Metconazole SC. Their control efficacy on FHB disease severity of wheat was examined after the fungicide treatment twice (30th April and 10th May, 2012) in the two field locations (Iksan and Gimje). With no treatment, FHB severity was 45% and 33.7% in Gimje and Iksan, respectively. FHB disease incidence after fungicide treatment was between 0.3% and 2.2% in Gimje, showing over 95% FHB disease control. FHB disease incidence of fungicide-treated sector in Iksan showed slightly higher than Gimje but the control value of fungicides exhibited 87-90%. No side effect of the chemicals was observed in fungicide treatment. These results showed that four fungicides were effective in the FHB disease control in wheat.

Quality Changes of Rosemary-Onion Kimchi by Packaging Materials during Storage (포장재를 달리한 로즈마리 양파김치의 저장 중 품질 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of packaging materials (Ny/PE, PET/Al/PE, PET/PE/LDPE/CPP, PET/Al/Ny/CPP films, and bottle) and packaging methods (atmosphere and vacuum) on the physicochemical properties of Onion Kimchi and Rosemary-onion Kimchi stored at $5^{\circ}C$. Reducing sugar contents and pHs of Onion Kimchi and Rosemary-onion Kimchi decreased, whereas levels of titratible acidity and vit C contents increased with increasing the storage time. The fermentation of Rosemary-onion Kimchi was slower than that of Onion Kimchi. PET/PE/LDPE/CPP film was the most effective for Onion Kimchi packaging among all packaging materials tested.

Resistant Cultivar Screening to Black Rot for Organic Cultivation of Broccoli (브로콜리 유기재배를 위한 검은썩음병 저항성 품종 선발)

  • This research was accomplished to screen the cultivar which is suitable in organic cultivation of the broccoli having good horticultural characteristics and the resistance to black rot. Thirteen cultivars of the broccoli were planted at Gangwon alpine areas of Pyeongchang county and Gangneung city and investigated the horticultural characteristics in 2006. Everybro, Tamsuerun, Nockjae, and Pilgrim had good horticultural characteristics in all two experimental fields. The resistance and susceptible reactions regarding the black rot of broccoli cultivars were different from according to two fields. This result means that physiological race of black rot pathogen distribute in Gangwon alpine areas. Everybro and Nockguck were resistance to black rot in all two experimental fields. Also these two cultivars had good horticultural characteristics. We recommend that Everybro and Nockguck will be suitable in organic cultivation.

식물추출물에 의한 벼 도열병균(Magnaprothe oryzae)의 ABC transporter발현 억제 및 포장에서의 방제

  • 벼 재배포장에서 화학약제의 반복적인 사용으로 인한 병원균의 약제내성과 환경오염은 커다란 문제가 되고 있다. 이러한 약제내성을 극복하기 위한 노력의 하나로 유전자수준의 약제내성기작의 규명과 대체물질의 발굴이 필요하다고 사료된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 식물종이 지니는 광범위한 다양성에 주목하였고, 700여 종의 식물추출물을 벼 도열병균에 처리해 균사성장억제효과를 조사하는 선별실험을 실시하였고, 영릉향과 지모추출물이 높은 균사성장억제효과를 보이는 것을 확인했다. 영릉향과 지모 추출물이 화학약제를 대체하는 대안물질로서 가능성을 조사하기위해 균사성장억제능력 확인실험, 분획, HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography), 포자발아 및 부착기 형성확인검정, ABC transporter의 발현조사, 환경독성실험등을 실시했다. 실험 결과, 영릉향과 지모 추출물을 벼 도열병균에 처리하였을 때 약제저항성유전자 ABC transporter의 기능이 저하되고 화학약제에 대한 내성이 감소를 확인했으며, 분획과 HPLC분석을 통해 영릉향과 지모의 유효성분을 확인했다. 또한, 실제 포장에서 영릉향 추출물과 지모 추출물을 사용하여 벼 도열병 방제가를 확인하는 포장시험을 실시한 결과, 각각 63%와 62%의 목 도열병 방제가를 확인 하였으며, 인축환경에 대한 유해성을 조사하기 위해 어류, 설치류, 중치류, 곤충을 대상으로 영릉향 추출물을 처리해 급성독성시험 실시한 결과, 고농도의 투여량에서도 독성이 없는 것을 확인했다. 위의 실험 결과를 토대로, 영릉향과 지모추출물이 화학농약에 의한 환경오염을 막을 수 있고, 인축과 환경에 피해를 입히지 않는 친환경자재로 친환경적인 생물농약의 신소재로서 가능성을 나타냈다고 사료된다.

EFFECTS OF LEAF MATURITY ON THE DISEASE PROGRESS OF SEPTORIA BROWN SPOT IN SOYBEAN (대두잎의 성숙도가 갈색무늬병의 진전에 미치는 영향)

  • Septoria brown spot caused by Septoria glycines Hemmi is one of the serious fungal diseases in soybean. Since little has been known about the disease progress in the field, the present study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the disease progress in the soybean plant. Disease severity and pattern of the progress of the Septoria brown spot were different with varieties. Susceptibility of soybean plants increased with increase of plant age and leaf maturity in order from the primary leaf to the newly expanded leaf. It seemed to be related with conidial germination on the leaves. Germination and germtube elongation were more inhibited by the diffusates obtained from upper leaves than those from lower leaves and they were higher in a susceptible variety than in a moderately resistant one.
