The purpose of this study was to examine dental personnels' concern for health, their personal protection manner, and whether or not they were inoculated against hepatitis B and made an inquiry of patients about that. It's ultimately meant to serve as a basis for the preparation of an anti-infection guide for the protection of dental personnels against all sorts of infectious diseases. After a survey was conducted from March 29 through May 9, 2001, the following findings were obtained: (1) The dental personnel group that had worked for 5 to less than 7 years took health examination the most, with 71.4%, before joining the hospital, and 61.5% of those who had served for 9 years or more, the greatest percentage, took medical checkup after joining the hospital(P<0.05). (2) The largest percentage of being inoculated against the anti-B type hepatitis after employment was 71.4% of the dental personnels over 35, and 57.7% of those with 9-year or more working experiences. Therefore, their age and service term made a significant difference(P<0.05). (3) There was no significant gap in personal protection practices between the dental hygienists and nurse aids(P>0.05). But the use of safety goggles for treatment was not properly done, with just 1.48 on the basis of 3 points, whereas the use of mask was scored 2.40 and the use of gloves was scored 1.96. (4) After a narcotic was used once, the leftovers were wasted by 89.7% of the dental hygienists and 70.0% of the nurse aids. More dental hygienists wasted them(P<0.05). (5) For hand washing, antibiotic liquid soap was used by 19.3% of the dental hygienists and 10.0% of the nurse aids, which were both very low percentage. And just 37.2% of the dental hygienists utilized a disposable paper towel to dry their hands, and only 36.0% of the nurse aids used the same(P<0.05).
Objectives: According to variety rapid change of working environment of dental clinics, dental hygienist faced of many job stress in their working place. The aim of this study was to analyze the stress factors. Methods: 206 participants of dental hygienist that working from each a section in Gwang-ju analysed the Job stress questionnaire as used self written. Results: The stress related of job factors was the highest score from 20-25 years old(p<0.05), score from dental clinic under ten persons, score from single women(p<0.05), score from 1 to 3 years old on job career, score from cases without home economic to support. The stress related of the patients was the highest score from 20-25 years old(p<0.05), score from dental clinic under ten persons, score from single women, score from 1 to 3 years old on job career(p<0.05), score from cases live with parents. Conclusions: These results suggest that, on dental hygienists working in the dental clinic and hospital, the stress of job activities have significant effects on dental hygienists. Therefore, it is recommended that the stress is being systematically reduced methods.
This research purports to find out the factors that affect the level of emotional labor in dental hygienists. Data were collected from 204 dental hygienists working at 5 university hospitals and 55 dental clinics through self-administered questionnaire, and analyzed by statistical analysis using t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis. The main findings of the study are as follows: First, the higher the educational level of dental hygienists, and the bigger the size of dental institutions they work, the higher the level of emotional labor of dental hygienists. Second, patient and environmental factors were found to have significant effects on the level of emotional labor. The above results imply that managers should try to make the workplace better environment which can secure appropriate workload and rewards, and support for work related education programs etc. It is also needed to educate the patients in order to prevent unnecessary conflicts between the patients and dental hygienists.
This study intended to search for measures to effectively improve and manage the job performance and personality of dental hygienists. In this study, the effects on job performance of the following variables were analyzed: emotional leadership, commitment, and patient-orientation. The subjects of the study were 328 dental hygienists who were working in a dental clinic and the assessment was made based on a self-administered questionnaire. T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Stepwise multiple regression were performed for analysis. The average of emotional leadership was 3.48 points, and commitment was 3.30 points. Also, the average of patient-orientation was 3.95 points and that of job performance was 3.39 points. Emotional leadership and commitment, as well as patient-orientation and job performance, showed positive correlation (p<0.001). The factor with the highest correlation with job performance was patient-orientation (${\beta}=0.306$), followed by the following: relationship management (${\beta}=0.209$); age (${\beta}=0.162$); self-awareness (${\beta}=0.139$); social-awareness (${\beta}=0.123$); and clinic type (${\beta}=0.101$). Based from the results of the study, there is a need to recognize the relationship among emotional leadership, commitment, and patient-orientation in connection with job performance.
This study was aimed to provide basic data which are fairly useful to improve satisfaction level of patients by analyzing factors related to each functional satisfactions of dental implant treatment. The subjects of this study were 120 patients who received implant treatment and analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA and pearson's correlation. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Differences of each functional satisfaction according to general characteristics was not reveal statistically significant. 2. A group to got periodic scaling and tooth brushed four or more times a day showed the highest satisfaction of social and esthetic function(p < .05). 3. A group to implantation in premolar area showed the highest satisfaction of masticatory function and a group to implantation in incisor to be high in satisfaction of social and esthetic function, but the differences were not statistically significant 4. A group to got implant treatment at a dental hospital showed the highest satisfaction of both social and esthetic function, and at a general hospital were found lowest(p < .05). 5. Masticatory function, social function, esthetic function, and overall satisfaction were found to be in a positive correlations, and especially, the correlation coefficient between the overall satisfaction and social function was found to be highest(p < .01).
The purpose of this study was to examine the influential factors for the quality of life of 151 dental hygienists. Average score were job stress $2.84{\pm}0.60$, social support $3.97{\pm}0.52$ and quality of life $3.18{\pm}0.35$ In terms of the quality of life, there were significant gaps according to age, marital status, the type of workplace, education and economic status. In social support significant difference were found according to age, the type of workplace and work system. In job stress, economic status made significant differences to that. Among the sub-factors of the quality of life, the dental hygienists who worked in public dental clinics led a life of higher quality than those who worked in hospitals in terms of physical and psychological health. In terms of social relationships, the dental hygienists who received graduate-school education led a life of better quality than the college graduates. In terms of environments, the 30-34 age group led a life of better quality than the 25-29 age group, and those who worked in public dental clinics led a life of better quality than the others. Those who received graduate-school education led a life of better quality than the junior-college graduates and the college graduates, and the group whose annual income was between 30 and 39 million won led a life of higher quality than the others. In terms of the overall quality of life, the group that worked for five days a week was ahead of the other that worked for five days a week. As a result of analyzing what factors affected the quality of life, emotional support, material support were identified as the variables to have a significant impact on that.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of mediating variables on the relationship between job stress and stress response. A survey was conducted to 243 clinical dental hygienists from January 15, 2013 to March 20, 2013 and the data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The subjects who worked in poor working environment, had high level of role conflict and overload and aggressive nature showed high stress responsivity (p<0.01). The variable that showed mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and physical discomfort, depression was shown to be personality type (p<0.05). Also, the variable that showed mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and turnover intention was social support (p<0.05). According to the results, personality type and social support were shown to be important parameters when it came to the relationship between job stress and stress response. Therefore, in order to reduce negative outcomes caused by stress, it is suggested to provide an educational opportunity on self-control management while increasing social support from the organizational and structural level. Especially, it is asked to expand the system that provides encouragement and recognition to feel the sense of achievement in the course of their duty execution.
The purpose of this study was to examine the causes of career interruptions among dental hygienists, institutional measures required for their long service and ways of creating a stable employment culture for them in determine how to resolve labor shortage, create stable jobs, and step up the reemployment of idle manpower. In addition, the following suggestions are made for the establishment of a stable employment culture for dental hygienists by analyzing related literature, research materials, and information such as forums for establishing appropriate jobs for female dental workers. First, a system should be set up to prevent career interruption among dental hygienists. The work environment should be improved to prevent career breaks, and the wages, working hours, and working style should be efficiently structured to maintain the tenure of employees. Second, a plan should be devised to make use of idle manpower, and a variety of necessary programs should be developed. With respect to regular working hours, the time conversion system should be used, which reduces the amount of time one would want to work while receiving a national subsidy. Third, dental hygienists working in different occupations for marriage, childbirth, childcare, school and personal hygiene should make a way to return to the dental system immediately when they want. Fourth, the government should take institutional measures and offer down-to-earth support and benefits for women consideration their social characteristics to guarantee a balance between work and childcare.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the communication skill of a dental hygienist for the elderly. The self-administered questionnaire selected by convenience sampling method from January 2 to February 14, 2015, Seoul, Kyungki, Incheon regions final analysis section 233 to target dental hygienist working under a dentist institutions. This study analyzed collected data by t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. This paper aims to comprehend the career plan and job view of the students of Dept. of Dental Hygiene who are expected to graduate with a bachelor of science degree, explain the characteristics of their jobs after graduation, compare them with the graduates of associate of science degree and finally give a basic data necessary for developing careers in the future. From the survey of 184 would-be graduates of Departments of Dental Hygiene at 6 universities that produce dental hygiene graduates in 2011 and 251 would-be graduates with a A.S. degree of Dept. of Dental Hygiene, whose course takes 3 years, this paper reaches the conclusion below. More graduates with B.S. degree in dental hygiene than those with a A.S. degree want to attend graduate school after graduation. It is found that most of the graduates with B.S. degree in dental hygiene wanted to work as a dental hygienist until they reach retirement age after getting a job. They favor dental hospitals, which give them a higher salary and ensure them of retirement age. They have a lower-esteemed job view: they think that their jobs are socially lower regarded, compared with graduates with a A.S. degree. It is found that those who wish to attend graduate school have lower job satisfaction than those who want to get a job after graduation. It is necessary for the educational institutes of dental hygiene to teach their graduates have a positive attitude their job and for the association to make an active effort to increase the job satisfaction of dental hygiene students as well as dental hygienists by enhancing social recognition of a dental hygiene.
