Analysis of Productivity Differences in Steel Bridge Manufacturing Plants According to Resource Allocation Methods for the Bottleneck (병목공정 자원할당 방식에 따른 강교 제작공장 생산성 차이 분석)

  • In this study, we proposed resource allocation methodologies to improve the productivity of steel bridge manufacturing plants based on the constraint theory which is very popular in the area of manufacturing industries. To this end, after defining the painting process as a bottleneck, three resource allocation methodologies were developed: Operation Specific Resource Allocation (OSRA), Product Specific Resource Allocation (PSRA), and General Resource Allocation (GRA). As a result of experiments for performance evaluation using a simulation model of the steel bridge supply chain, GRA showed the best performance in terms of the Number of Work-In-Process (NWIP) and Waiting Time (WT), in particular, as workload itself and its variability were increased, the performance gap with the specific resource allocation became further deepened. On average, GRA reduced NWIP by 36.2% and WT by 34.6% compared to OSRA, and reduced NWIP by 71.0% and WT by 70.4% compared to PSRA. The reduction of NWIP and WT means alleviating the bottleneck of the painting process, which eventually means that the productivity of the steel bridge manufacturing plant has improved.

  • 통신시장에서의 경쟁촉진을 위해서는 우선 병목규제와 관련하여 현행 전기통신사업법의 개정을 고려할 필요가 있다. 또한 서비스시장 등 비병목시장에 대해서는 사전적 규제보다는 공정거래법을 통한 사후적 규제로의 전환이 바람직 할 것이다. 즉 병목시설에 대한 개방을 위해 필요한 규제조치만을 통신법에 맡기고, 기타 부분에 대해서는 경제질서의 기본법인 공정거래법으로 규율하는 것을 기본원칙으로 하는 것이 바람직 할 것이다.

  • 본 연구는 반도체 생산에서 제조공기 단축과 생산 능력의 극대화를 동시에 추구하는 스케줄링에 관한 연구이다. 반도체 공정에서의 생산능력은 사진 공정 안에 있는 병목 설비에 의존한다. 본 연구는 사진 공정의 병목 설비인 스테퍼의 효율적인 스케줄링을 생성하여 제조 공기의 단축과 생산량의 최대화를 위한 선형 계획법 모델을 제시하였다.

An Application Method and Effect Analysis of the DBR(Drum-Buffer-Rope) Method Under the Re-entrant Process (재투입공정 하에서 DBR 기법 적용 방안 및 효과분석)

  • Many researchers have recommended that DBR scheduling would be an efficient method to maintain the balance of their workload among many processes in the general flow shop. However, as product variety has increased in recent years, the process has become more complex and requires the re-entrance of raw materials and work in process. The re-entrant line has known for the complex manufacturing process that raw materials are repeatedly processed on the same machine. This study reviews the applicability of DBR against the re-entrant manufacturing line due to the distinguishing characteristics and the higher complexity caused by multiple visits of a job into the identical process. In order to apply the DBR method to the re-entrant process, the main idea is to reconstruct re-entrant process into a virtual flow process(loop) that has a single bottleneck. This study discusses the following two questions. First, DBR is also superior to traditional scheduling methods against re-entrant manufacturing line. And how we structure and detect the system bottleneck (or sub-bottleneck) through drum-buffer-rope concepts. To answer the above questions, we experimented and analyzed the effects of the applicability of DBR under the general re-entrant process model(TRC, Technology Research Center). As a result, we have identified a balance between loops for cycle time and work in process.

Development of simulation-based ship production execution system(SPEXS) for a panel block assembly shop (판넬블록 생산관리를 위한 시뮬레이션 기반 조선생산실행시스템 개발)

  • The management of a panel block shop in a shipyard is a complex process that entails the largest amount of work and in which many decisions are involved. Shipbuilders have considered the process as a bottleneck since every panel for every ship and offshore hull structure must be processed through the shop. In order to maximize process productivity, simulation-based ship production execution system(SPEXS) is proposed for panel block operations utilising discrete-event simulation and simulated annealing. An application of panel block assembly shop, called SPEX-Panel supports production planners by general dispatching rules and metaheuristics to make better scheduling decisions on the shop floor. In addition, the system will help increase productivity in the yard with continuous improvement.

Bandwidth Redistribution Based Fairness Control Method for the IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring (IEEE 802.17 레질런트 패킷링을 위한 대역폭 재분배 기반 공정성 제어 방식)

  • The IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) for future Local, Metropolitan, and Wide Area Networks was recently standardized, but it still suffer from delay jitter deterioration and even some bandwidth loss under unbalanced overload. In order to overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a bandwidth redistribution based fairness control method, compatible with the legacy one, in which each congested node measures the amount of available bandwidth of its bottleneck link resulted from regulating upstream nodes' shares of the link bandwidth, calculates optimal fair rate with the number of uptream nodes requiring more bandwidth, and then redistributes the available bandwidth to the upstream nodes by advertising the rate. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed method fairly redistributes 95% of the bottleneck link bandwidth with even only two redistributions.

  • Due to the change from small volume production to small quantity batch production systems, individual companies have been attempting to produce a wide range of operating strategies, maximize their productivity, and minimize their WIP level by operating with the proper cycle time to defend their market share. In particular, using a complex workflow and process sequence in the manufacturing line has some drawbacks when it comes to designing the production strategy by applying analytical models, such as mathematical models and queueing theory. For this purpose, this paper uses three heuristic algorithms to solve the job release problem at the bottleneck workstation, product mix problem in multi-purpose machine(s), and batch size and sequence in batch machine(s). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods, a simulation analysis was performed. The experimental results demonstrated that the combined application of the proposed methods showed positive effects on the reduction of the cycle time and WIP level, and improvement of the throughput.

A Study on Throughput Increase in Semiconductor Package Process of K Manufacturing Company Using a Simulation Model (시뮬레이션 모델을 이용한 K회사 반도체 패키지 공정의 생산량 증가를 위한 연구)

  • K company produces semiconductor package products under the make-to-order policy to supply for domestic and foreign semiconductor manufacturing companies. Its production process is a machine-paced assembly line type, which consists of die sawing, assembly, and test. This paper suggests three plans to increase process throughput based on the process analysis of K company and evaluates them via a simulation model using a real data collected. The three plans are line balancing by adding machines to the bottleneck process, product group scheduling, and reallocation of the operators in non-bottleneck processes. The evaluation result shows the highest daily throughput increase of 17.3% with an effect of 2.8% reduction of due date violation when the three plans are applied together. Payback period for the mixed application of the three plans is obtained as 1.37 years.

  • One of the major technology issues in the ship production processes is the curved hull forming process that is a bottle neck and performed by experienced workers. In order to automate the curved hull forming process, there are a lot of attempts to develop the automation system by many shipbuilding companies and academic labs. However they have some problems which put the developed system in the difficulties to be used and maintained in the yard. In this paper, the problems are formed and solved by using tailored Systems Engineering Process which consists of four steps, those are requirement definition, system design, implementation of subsystem and components, and system integration and verification. A prototype for the proposed system development methodology is implemented. From the consideration of the prototype implemented, it is verified that this methodology can be an alternative to solve the problems.

  • The design of best efficient production process is common requirements of the production strategy department and the process planning department to maximize the revenue and accomplish target production volumes in the production periods. And they use several general methods for that-line-balancing, removing of the bottle-neck process, facility ramp-up, increasing of the worker's utilization, etc. But, those methods have depended on analytic, static and arithmetic calculations, yet. So, irregular work-waiting time causing the delay time isn't include in extracting production capacity, especially in the line production process. The work-waiting time is changed irregularly along the variation of each machine and very important for calculate real product lead-time and forecasting target production volumes. At this thesis, i'm going to mention the importance of the delay time of conveyor system which can be extracted by discrete-event simulation. And suggest it as a new main variable that must be considered at designing new production system. Then experimented and tested that's effects in the H-company case, conveyor based line production process.
