Synthetic seismograms and deduced characteristic properties of the non-geometrical $S^*$ and $P^*$ waves are presented. These waves are excited on the free surface or an interface between two different media by an inhomogeneous P wave from a point source nearby, and propagate as homogeneous waves in the media. Synthetic seismograms are computed using an extended reflectivity method designed for buried source and receiver. An efficient computational procedure for propagator matrices of layers is devised to reduce the computational time and the RAM memory size in the implementation of the reflectivity method. Radiation patterns are obtained from the particle motions of the four types of the "*" waves, i.e., the $S^*$ wave generated near the free surface, and the reflected $S^*$, transmitted $S^*$ and transmitted $P^*$ waves generated near an interface. Some patterns show polarity changes of displacements and others reveal monotonic or non-monotonic variation of amplitude depending on the velocity structure. The decaying trend of amplitude with increasing epicentral distance are also shown for the head wave type of the "*" waves.
To overcome the mid frequency limitation of geometrical acoustic techniques, the phased geometrical method was suggested by introducing the phase information into the sound propagation from the source. By virtue of phase information, the phased tracing method has a definite benefit in taking the interference phenomenon at mid frequencies into account. Still, this analysis technique has suffered from difficulties in dealing with low frequency phenomena, so called, wave nature of sound. At low frequencies, diffraction at corners, edges, and obstacles can cause errors in simulating the transfer function and the impulse response. Due to the use of real valued absorption coefficient, simulated results have shown a discrepancy with measured data. Thus, incorrect phase of the reflection characteristic of a wall should be corrected. In this work, the uniform theory of diffraction was integrated into the phased beam tracing method (PBTM) and the result was compared to the ordinary PBTM. By changing the phase of the reflection coefficient, effects of phase information were investigated. Incorporating such error compensation methods, the acoustic prediction by PBTM can be further extended to low frequency range with improved accuracy in the room acoustic field.

In this study, we proposed a new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwater consisting of a bundle of latticed blocks that can be applied to a small port such as a fishing port, and numerically investigated the hydraulic characteristics of the breakwater. The numerical method used in this study is OLAFOAM which newly added wave generation module, porous media analysis module and reflected wave control module based on OpenFOAM that is open source CFD software published under the GPL license. To investigate the applicability of OLAFOAM, the variations of wave pressure acting on the three-dimensional slit caisson were compared to the previous experimental results under the regular wave conditions, and then the performance for irregular waves was examined from the reproducibility of the target irregular waves and frequency spectrum analysis. As a result, a series of numerical simulations for the new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwaters, which is similar to slit caisson breakwater, was carried out under the irregular wave actions. The hydraulic characteristics of the breakwater such as wave overtopping, reflection, and wave pressure distribution were carefully investigated respect to the significant wave height and period, the wave chamber width, and the interconnectivity between them. The numerical results revealed that the wave pressure acting on the new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwaters was considerably smaller than the result of the impermeable vertical wall computed by the Goda equation. Also, the reflection of the new-type caisson breakwater was similar to the variation range of the reflection coefficient of the existing slit caisson breakwater.

Most analytical solutions for wave-induced soil response have been mainly developed to investigate the influence of the progressive and standing waves on the seabed response in an infinite seabed. This paper presents a new analytical solution to the governing equations considering the wave-induced soil response for the partial standing wave fields with arbitrary reflectivity in a porous seabed of finite thickness, using the effective stress based on Biot's theory (Biot, 1941) and elastic foundation coupled with linear wave theory. The newly developed solution for wave-seabed interaction in seabed of finite depth has wide applicability as an analytical solutions because it can be easily extended to the previous analytical solutions by varying water depth and reflection ratio. For more realistic wave field, the partial standing waves caused by the breakwaters with arbitrary reflectivity are considered. The analytical solutions was verified by comparing with the previous results for a seabed of infinite thickness under the two-dimensional progressive and standing wave fields derived by Yamamoto et al.(1978) and Tsai & Lee(1994). Based on the analytical solutions derived in this study, the influence of water depth and wave period on the characteristics of the seabed response for the progressive, standing and partial standing wave fields in a seabed of finite thickness were carefully examined. The analytical solution shows that the soil response (including pore pressure, shear stress, horizontal and vertical effective stresses) for a seabed of finite thickness is quite different in an infinite seabed. In particular, this study also found that the wave-induced seabed response under the partial wave conditions was reduced compared with the standing wave fields, and depends on the reflection coefficient.
Shock focusing is related with explosive release of shock wave energy on a narrow spot in a short duration of time triggering a spontaneous high pressure near the focal point. It is well known that reflection of planar incident shock wave from the metallic concave mirror such as ellipsoidal, paraboloidal or hemispherical cavities will focus on a focal point. We intend to improve the computational results using a wave propagation algorithm and to resolve the mushroom-like structure. For computation of the concave cavity flow, it is not easy to use a single-block mesh because of the many singular points in geometry and coordinates. We have employed a uniform Cartesian-grid method for the wave propagation algorithm.

In this paper, the power flow analysis(PFA) method was developed to predict the vibrational responses of coupled co-planar orthotropic plates in frequencies ranging from medium to high. To cover the power transmission and reflection at the joint of the orthotropic plates, the wave transmission approach is applied with the assumption that all the incident waves are normal to the joint. Through numerical analyses, the power flow energy density and intensity fields of coupled co-planar orthotropic plates were compared with those of classical modal solutions by changing the frequency and internal loss factor, and they show good agreement in terms of the global decay and the attenuation patterns of the energy density.

The LASER Amplifier is treated in the manner of a Fabry-Perot Resonator with an active media, five layers are considered: air, reflector, active medium(ruby), reflector and air. One dimensional scalar wave equations are derived using the method of boundary value probrems in which it is assumed that incident coherent radiation falls normally on the surface wall. All equations are treated from the transient analysis point of view using the Laplace transform nethods, and are arranged steady state region as an amplifier and transient region as a self excited oscillator. Also some remarks are given on the design problem of LASER amplifier in connection with the transient terms involved.

The present study is devoted to investigate numerically the optical characteristics of multi-layer thin film structures such as $Si/SiO_2\;and\;Ge/Si/SiO_2$ by using the characteristics transmission matrix method. The reflectivity and the absorptivity rate for thin film structures are estimated for different incident angles of rays and various film thicknesses. In addition, the influence of wavelength on optical characteristics related to complex refractive index is examined. It is found that such wave-like characteristics are observed in predicting reflectivities and depends mainly on film thickness. Moreover, the present study predicts the film thickness for ignoring wave interference effects, and it also discusses the fundamental physics behind optical and energy absorption characteristics appearing in multi-layer thin film structures.
