  • The purpose of this study is to propose the direction of competence of future designers required in the fourth industrial revolution. Designers have played an intermediary role in connecting technology and human beings. Therefore, in the fourth industrial revolution the capacity required to perform the intermediate role as a designer has also changed. The paradigm of design which changed step by step through the literature survey was studied. In addition, priorities were confirmed by comparing past and future designer competencies through prior research on designer competencies. As a result, we confirmed that the planning competence to solve complex problems and the competence of design management to realize them. Based on this research, we hope to be able to recognize the direction of competence as a designer in the fourth industrial revolution and to be a reference material for the follow - up study.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the role of future designers and capabilities to be developed in the age of A.I. Active and preliminary designers should prepare themselves to develop necessary capabilities. As a method of study, we investigated the meaning of design and the changing role of designers from the past to present. Additional research was conducted on generative design, design processes, and A.I based design software. Finally, based on the analysis, we proposed the role of future designers and their capabilities in the age of A.I. In conclusion, the role of future designer should lead social innovation through creativity by coworking with artificial intelligence based on understanding and empathy for users. Based on this research, designers are expected to develop unique humanities skills such as empathy and creativity and work with AI in response to $4^{th}$ industrial revolution.

  • The outsourcing has become a general part of the convergence in modern game development process for generating a higher profit margin. This study examines and defines the work competences required for the game graphic designers in a collaboration performance of outsourcing. In this study, we introduce the basic concept and advantages of the outsourcing and extend prior work on identifying three work competencies of graphic designers. We conducted in-depth case studies of outsourcing system used by North America's major game developer. The findings from this study offer insights into the essential core competencies expected for graphic designers, providing effective guideline from the practical perspective.

In the relationship between design competency strengthening education for designers and individual performance, Mediating effect of learning self-efficacy and corporate learning transfer climate (디자이너 대상 디자인 역량강화교육과 개인성과와의 관계에서 학습 자기효능감과 기업 학습전이풍토의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to prove the hypothesis that the learning transfer climate, such as individual learning self-efficacy and corporate innovative knowledge transfer, will play a mediating role in the relationship between design competency strengthening education and individual performance considering the designer's characteristics. This is meaningful in expanding the meaning of design education and training by quantitatively analyzing the learning transfer climate that affects learning self-efficacy and organizational culture according to the characteristics of designers, unlike existing studies that simply investigate the satisfaction of education. Specifically, this study set up seven hypotheses, and as a result, it was found that design capacity building education for designers, learning self-efficacy, and learning transfer climate of companies had a significant effect on individual performance.

  • This study started with the need for transition to competency-based education as well as the witness of fast changes in fashion industry's job environment. The goals of this study were (1) to explore fashion designers' competencies that are necessary for a successful careers in global fashion industry, and (2) to establish fashion designer competency model. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with 15 participants who have charged for design department and moreover have shown high performance in national, licence or designer brands in Korea fashion industry. Grounded theory was adopted to analyze data. As a result of analysis, the 4 core competencies emerged: problem-solving, research, inter-personal, and self-development. Each core competency has sub-competencies. Creativity, commerciality, control, decision making were sub-competencies for the problem-solving competency. Information management, innovation understanding & application, trend analysis & forecasting were sub-competencies for the research competency. Consumer, inside company, and outside company relationships were sub-competencies for the inter-personal competency. Self-awareness, self-management, expertise were sub-competencies for the self-development competency. In order to acquire these competencies, knowledge (academic, practical, multi-discipline), skills (sense, analysis, synthesis, communication), and attitude (interest, enjoyment, perseverance, personality) were essential. Based on these findings, implications for university fashion design education and further research areas were suggested.

  • Collaboration between AI and fashion designers is becoming essential. Thus, this study explored (1) 321 consumer responses to fashion designers, comparing their capabilities and product quality across different designer types, (2) the relationship between designer capabilities and perceived product quality, and (3) the moderating role of AI knowledge in the effect of capabilities on perceived product quality. Data were analyzed using EFA, ANOVA, regression, and moderation analysis. The results indicated that subjects perceived human designers as having higher capabilities and perceived product quality than AI designers. All subjects' perceived creativity and empathy significantly impacted the perceived functionality, aesthetics, and symbolism-sociality of clothing. Additionally, the perceived creativity of AI and human+AI designers, and the perceived empathy of human and human+AI designers, significantly influenced the perceived functionality and symbolism-sociality, but the perceived creativity of human designers and empathy of AI designers did not directly impact perceived functionality and symbolism-sociality. Moreover, perceptions of the designers' capabilities significantly aesthetics in all subjects. Furthermore, low levels of perceived consumer AI knowledge enhanced the positive impact of perceived human+AI designers' creativity and empathy on perceived functionality and aesthetics. The study suggests that fashion companies should refrain from revealing AI designers at this time.

  • This study explores convergence curriculum for design and data science, and applies data science knowledge on undergraduate design classes for designer's data literacy. First, related studies about data literacy education for non-data science major's, and data driven design project cases are explored, then design competency and data competency based on NCS are studied. Then this study developed 3 step design-data convergence curriculum model for designers' data literacy. The curriculum model is applied on case study classes, which are Big data and UX design(2) classes. The learning results and student's feedback of the case study classes are collected and analyzed to prove the design-data convergence curriculum, and the results provide findings and implications of the design-data convergence class case study.

  • Design-talent donation is a new form of social contribution activities using designers' professional skill and experience. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate which causes affect the inclination to participate in design-talent donation, taking into account that the research compared prospective designers and professional designers. When it comes to research method, this study classified the capabilities of designers with professional designers and prospective designer as potential talent donation provider. The research executed questionnaires of each factors and collected data were verified by using t-test analysis. Through the survey analysis to determine the factors affecting each group validated statistical difference between the two groups. The results showed that there is a significant difference in the impact factors between professional designers and prospective designers who involve in design-talent donation. The type of compensation could be expected to know that there is no significant correlation between the two groups. The meanings of this study are value addition criteria for the design output that provided from design talent donation should be clarified and ultimately is expected to specify the design talents donations range to meet the needs of designers as potential talent donation provider.
