  • The multiple-ridged circular waveguides is analyzed using Fourier series and the mode matching technique. The enforcement of the boundary conditions yields the simultaneous equations for the field coefficient inside the waveguides. The simultaneous equations are solved to represent a dispersion relation in an analytic series form. The numerical computation is performed to illustrate the behavior of the cutoff wavenumbers in terms of number, length and angle of ridges. The presented series solution is exact and rapidly-convergent so that it is efficient for numerical computation. A simple dispersion relation based on the dominant mode analysis is obtained and is shown to be very accurate for most practical applications.

  • An iterative Green's function method (IGFM) is introduced to analyze complex electromagnetic waveguide structures in view of the university student. The IGFM utilizes the Green's function and iteration scheme. The physical mechanism with simple mathematical equations is used to formulate the IGFM. Scattering characteristics of a standard E-plane T-junction in a parallel-plate waveguide are theoretically investigated in terms of the IGFM. Numerical computations illustrate the characteristics of resection and transmission powers versus frequency. A dominant-mode solution is presented and compared with the higher-mode solutions.

  • Ground wave is an acoustic wave propagating at a sediment sound speed in the case that sediment sound speed is constant with depth, which is explained by modal dispersion effects. In this paper, the ground wave in time domain is simulated using the ray-based approach, which is possible because the modal dispersion can be explained by the guiding of energy caused by reflection and refraction in the waveguide geometry. For a Pekeris waveguide, the ground wave can be interpreted as a sequence of head waves, called a head wave sequence [Choi and Dahl, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 119, 3660-3668 (2006)]. The ground wave is simulated by convolution of the source signal with a channel impulse response of the head wave sequence, which is compared with simulated signals obtained via a Fourier synthesis of a complex parabolic equation (PE) field.

  • The vertical attenuation of structureborne noise in a ship structure is studied by means of the wave guide theory. When modeling a ship structure as an acoustic wave guide system the cross mode is derived from the assumption about the boundary of the system, i.e. the constraint due to transverse frames. In this paper, the constraint is relaxed so that the displacement at the boundaries could take place. The numerical result shows better agreement with the measured one than that of the previous assumption of fixed boundary condition in the low frequency region. The effect of local changes of mass and damping factors on the attenuation losses are also investigated numerically.

  • In this paper, design of rectangular iris waveguide filter for the microwave broadcasting transponder using WR137 is applied to the modified ${TE^x}_{mn}$ mode theory in order to exactly analyze the characteristic of the waveguide discontinuity. We designed and fabricated the rectangular iris waveguide filter with the bandwidth 47 MHz for the microwave broadcasting transponder applied the conjugate gradient method to the modified ${TE^x}_{mn}$ mode theory. The results show a good characteristics that the $S_{11}$ and $S_{21}$ are -23 ㏈, -0.56 ㏈ and the maximum VSWR is below 1.02 in the passband.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of waveguide E-plane metal insert bandpass filter for milli-meter waves which is analyzed transmission characteristics by calculating the generalized scattering matrix using mode-matching method. The bandpass filter was fabricated to verify the proposed method by the WR-34 rectangular waveguide to operate in 30.085 ~ 30.885 GHz. The fabricated waveguide E-plane metal insert band- pass filter was established the fact that it is so adaptive for milli-meter waves due to the measured data closely consistent with the results of analysis using mode-matching method, that is, the maximum value of insertion loss is 0.8 dB and the return loss is below -15 dB.

  • In this paper, the input impedance of coaxial fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna located inside rectangular waveguide is calculated by using the cavity model and the mode excited in the waveguide by the patch antenna. The return loss and efficiency of the patch antennas as a function of feed position in. free space and in waveguide are calculated and compared. The maximum efficiency of the antennas in waveguide and in free space are obtained at different feed position.

  • The theory of characteristic modes for coaxial waveguide with periodic axial slots is used to derive the weighted eigenvalue equation for calculating the characteristic values and the characteristic currents. Once the characteristic values and the characteristic currents are obtained, the important quantities such as the equivalent magnetic current, radiation patterns, and RCS are determined. Numerical results of the equivalent magnetic currents, radiation patterns, and RCS are compared with those obtained by use of the method of moments. A fairly good correspondence is observed between them.

  • In this paper, hem antenna composed of rectangular hern, circular polarizer and straight-type mode convertor is designed and fabricated. The circular polarizer is designed as a dielectric type having broadband characteristic, and it is inserted into the rectangular hem with $45^{\circ}$ inclination. The straight-type mode convertor has a terrace-type structure in order to convert the TEM mode signal of coaxial cable to the TE mode of rectangular waveguide, and this structure minimizes conversion loss. Fabricated hem antenna operates at $30.085\sim30.885GHz$ and has VSWR < 1.5, Axial ratio < 1.0dB and antenna gain of $6.7\sim7.0dBi$ in the band.

  • For mass and volume reduction, input demultiplxer and output multiplexer of satellite transponder widely adopt dual-mode waveguide filters fer channel filters. Generally, channel filters of the input demultiplexer are doubly terminated and channel filters of manifold output multiplexer should be singly terminated fur correct operation. This paper gives a tuning method using short-ended dummy cavity for dual-mode cavity filters. Tuning is based on the match of the computed and measured phase response of reflection coefficient. This proposed method is applied to 4-pole dual-mode doubly terminated elliptic response filter and 6-pole dual-mode singly terminated elliptic response filter for demonstration of this new tuning method. It is shown that this method shows good agreement between the experimental and computed results.
