Online Deadline Scheduling of Equal Length Jobs with More Machines (추가 머신들을 이용한 동일 길이 작업들의 온라인 마감시간 스케줄링)

  • In this paper, we consider the online scheduling problem of jobs with deadlines. The jobs arrive over time and the scheduling algorithm has no information about the arriving jobs in advance. The jobs have the processing time of the equal length and the goal of the scheduling algorithm is to maximize the number of jobs completed in their deadlines. The performance of the online algorithm is compared with that of the optimal algorithm which has the full information about all the jobs. The raio of the two performances is called the competitive ratio. In general, the ratio is unbouned. So the case that the online algorithm can have more resources than the optimal algorithm is considered, which is called the resource augmentation analysis. In this paper, the online algorithm have more machines. We show that the online algorithm can have the same performance as the optimal algorithm.

A Study on the MMPP Model Verification for the Real-time VBR Traffic of ATM Network (ATM망의 실시간 VBR 트래픽에 대한 MMPP 모델 적합성 검증 연구)

  • This paper is to verify that 2-state MMPP Model conform to ATM VBR traffic characteristics by measuring and analyzing real-time VBR traffic in KT's ATM network. As a result, we validated the fact that real-time VBR traffic of ATM network cannot be apply to MMPP model and must be represented by previously general On-Off Model with characteristics as follows: arrival rate of On state (λ$_1$) is deterministic, arrival rate of Off state (λ$_2$) is zero, and two transition rate (T$_1$,T$_2$) is only random variable. As research results are to handle real traffic, these results can be used to all ATM network traffic model with traffic management function such as KT's ATM network.

Character Segmentation using Side Profile Pattern (측면윤곽 패턴을 이용한 접합 문자 분할 연구)

  • In this paper, a new character segmentation algorithm of machine printed character recognition is proposed. The new approach of the proposed character segmentation algorithm overcomes the weak points of both feature-based approaches and recognition-based approaches in character segmentation. This paper defines side profiles of touching characters. The character segmentation algorithm gives a candidate single character in touching characters by side profiles, without any help of character recognizer. It segments touching characters and decides the candidate single character by side profiles. This paper also defines cutting cost, which makes the proposed character segmentation find an optimal segmenting path. The performance of the proposed character segmentation algorithm in this paper has been obtained using a real envelope reader system, which can recognize addresses in U.S. mail pieces and sort the mail pieces. 3359 mail pieces were tested. The improvement was from $68.92\%\;to\;80.08\%$ by the proposed character segmentation.

The Phase Estimation Algorithm of Arrival Time Difference in MIMO Underwater Sensor Communication (MIMO 수중 통신에서 도착시간 차이에 따른 보상 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we proposed receiver structure based on an iterative turbo equalization to cope with phase difference between two sensors in MIMO underwater communication channel. In a space-time coded system, it is often assumed that there are no phase errors among the multiple transmitter and receiver chains. In this paper, we have studied the effect of the phase errors between different transmit sensors and different propagation paths in the environment of MIMO underwater communication system, and have shown through BER performance by computer simulations that the bit-error-rate performance can be severely degraded. A decision-directed estimation and compensation algorithm has been proposed to minimize their effects on the system performance. In this paper, we investigate the phase differences and their effects on multiple-input and multiple-output systems, and propose a compensation algorithm for underwater channel model to minimize their effects.

A Study on the Baggage Allocation Method of Passenger-Baggage Hybrid Train (여객-화물 복합열차의 화물 배치방법에 관한 연구)

  • Three baggage allocation methods of passenger-baggage hybrid train in restricted railway transportation capacity including round conveyor system, vertical circulation system, and horizontal circulation system are presented. Loading/Unloading time is calculated based on the volume transported from Busan to Seoul via Daegu, Daejeon, and Osong with the parcel company P's logistics data. The horizontal circulation system shows less baggage volume capacity to be allocated and the maximum loading/unloading time with 434 secs. The vertical circulation system presents more loading time, but it shows best result with 408 secs. Loading/Unloading times are compared for each system and useful method is presented to improve transportation efficiency of the train.

Optimal Acoustic Sound Localization System Based on a Tetrahedron-Shaped Microphone Array (정사면체 마이크로폰 어레이 기반 최적 음원추적 시스템)

  • This paper proposes a new sound localization algorithm that can improve localization performance based on a tetrahedron-shaped microphone array. Sound localization system estimates directional information of sound source based on the time delay of arrival(TDOA) information between the microphone pairs in a microphone array. In order to obtain directional information of the sound source in three dimensions, the system requires at least three microphones. If one of the microphones fails to detect proper signal level, the system cannot produce a reliable estimate. This paper proposes a tetrahedron- shaped sound localization system with a coordinate transform method by adding one microphone to the previously known triangular-shaped system providing more robust and reliable sound localization. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a real time simulation was conducted, and the results were compared to the previously known triangular-shaped system. From the simulation results, the proposed tetrahedron-shaped sound localization system is superior to the triangular-shaped system by more than 46% for maximum sound source detection.

  • This thesis Proposes a media synchronization mechanism for video conferencing system by analyzing a variation of the delay time of media. Using this mechanism, this thesis analyzes the media traffics and determines the values of external variables important on waiting time. This system uses some dummy streams to get the time. When two hosts are initially connected, they change the dummy streams by which a logical time of the sender may be extracted. The time presenting a media stream is a sum of base time, logical time and the waiting time. At this time, for the purpose of optimally adjusting the waiting time, this mechanism uses the rate of updating the waiting time and the sampling unit of media. These values are acquired by analyzing the waiting times, the delay rates and the delayed arrival times.

An Inference Method of a Multi-server Queue using Arrival and Departure Times (도착 및 이탈시점을 이용한 다중서버 대기행렬 추론)

  • This paper presents inference methods for inner operations of a multi-server queue when historical data are limited or system observation is restricted. In a queueing system analysis, autocorrelated arrival and service processes increase the complexity of modeling. Accordingly, numerous analysis methods have been developed. In this paper, we introduce an inference method for specific situations when external observations exhibit autocorrelated structure and and observations of internal operations are difficult. We release an assumption of the previous method and provide lemma and theorem to guarantee the correctness of our proposed inference method. Using only external observations, our proposed method deduces the internal operation of a multi-server queue via non-parametric approach even when the service times are autocorrelated. The main internal inference measures are waiting times and service times of respective customers. We provide some numerical results to verify that our method performs as intended.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the main character characters of the movie [THE HANDMAIDEN]. All four characters in the movie [THE HANDMAIDEN] have in common is that they all have seen 'the Existence' and have the factors behind the villainous figure. Kozuki and Hideko had clear and typical symptoms, have been diagnosed as a structural layer of perversion and neurosis by Lacan's psychoanalysis Methodology. On the other hand, since Sook-hee and Ko-pandol have the nature of being a criminal, they have long been faced up to the existence. It was difficult to approach to the structural layer of psychoanlysis Methodology. Therefore, the PCL-R diagnosis used to analyze the personality type of Sook-hee and Ko-pandol and add structural analysis again. As a result, Kouzuki had an Sadist, Hideko had an obsessive compulsive and Sook-hee had an anti-social lifestyle, but she was in a normal emotional category. It was noted that the Ko-pandol was a potential Sadist and part of a sociopath.

Bus stop passenger waiting simulation considering transfer passengers: A case study at Cheongju Intercity Bus Terminal (환승객을 고려한 버스 정류장 승객 대기 시뮬레이션: 청주 시외 버스 터미널 정류장 사례 연구)

  • After the integrated fare system has been applied, public transportation and transfer traffic increased. As a result, transfer passengers must be considered in the operation of the bus. Although previous studies have limitations due to utilizing deterministic mathematical models, which fails to reflect the stochastic movements of passengers and buses, in this study, a more realistic bus stop micro-simulation model is proposed. Based on the proposed simulation model, we represent the relationship between bus arrival interval and passenger wait time as a regression model and empirically show the differences between the cases with and without transfer passengers. Also, we propose a method converting passenger waiting time to cost and find optimal bus arrival interval based on the converted cost. It is expected the proposed method enables bottom-up decision making reflecting practical situation.
