  • Unlike the United States, course reserve and e-Reserve services of university libraries are very poorly operated in Korea. This paper studied cases of e-Reserve service operation of 131 university libraries in the United States to provide basic materials for revitalizing the e-Reserve service of domestic university libraries. To confirm the operation case, 131 university library websites were surveyed, and among them, the e-Reserve service operation methods of 7 university libraries were compared and analyzed, and the functions of 4 e-Reserve supporting software were checked. The research results can be used as reference materials in operating the e-Reserve service in domestic university libraries, and the function of the analyzed support software is considered to be a functional requirement to be considered when introducing the system.

Therefore, the university libraries need to develop new services so that students can grow up to be suitable for the new social situations. Havruta is an educational approach that can meet these needs and is one of the measures the university libraries want to apply. Thus, through 1) the investigation of the concept of Havruta, 2) the case study of domestic and foreign university libraries, and 3) interview of the Havtura-based service, this study 4) proposed the Havruta service applicable to the university libraries and 5) conducted a survey of operators and users on the awareness of the Havruta service, space, and contents of the Havruta service, and the willingness of the Havruta service. Results of the survey analysis revealed implications for the areas of the Havruta service - Havruta theme, group organization, textbook rental, simplication of space reservation, data sharing and motivation system.

  • In order to appreciate the varied activities of university libraries, this study assesses their efficiencies in the process of production and utilization of their services for two consecutive years, 1999 and 2000. Using a Data Envelopment Analysis with exogenously fixed factors, this study analyses separately efficiencies identified. The results show that efficiencies of libraries appear differently according to the year of evaluation, the dimension of evaluation as well as the difference of statute. The specialized libraries as CADIST are definitely higher in terms of use of services. In addition, inefficiency is mainly due to deficits of production of outputs rather than excesses of utilisation of inputs. For example, time devoted to user's training constitutes the most significant potentiality of increase in the production of services.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a plan on the effect of non-face-to-face services on library anxiety facilities by analyzing the library anxiety factors of university library users. To this end, we look at the cases of university library user service response activities in response to the COVID-19 crisis and select 40 schools with the highest number of library visitors per student from among domestic four-year university libraries with 5,000 or more and less than 10,000 students. Methods of information service and program cases were analyzed, and K-LAS was reconstructed and surveyed for current students using the K university library, and frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were applied to analyze the library anxiety factors of users. Identify the relationship between 5 library anxiety factors and non-face-to-face service activation factors, such as physical/environmental factors of the library, data search selection factors, digital information system factors, librarian (staff) factors, and psychological/emotional factors, and activate non-face-to-face services. The influence of these factors on library anxiety factors was examined, and as a result, it was found that non-face-to-face service activation factors had the greatest influence on library digital information system anxiety factors. Based on the analysis results, it was attempted to derive a plan to relieve users' library anxiety by activating non-face-to-face services.

To this end, the concept of data curation has been summarized, and how to understand information services and teaching-learning information data curation of university libraries. As a traditional extension of library information services, the use of university library data curation services has been proposed. As a result of research, data curation suggests that it is appropriate to understand the data by focusing more on the utilization of data. The university library emphasized that the data curation service is needed through the establishment of an institutional repository of teaching-learning activity materials for the visible effects that contribute to the educational service of the parent university. Finally, the research was completed by presenting five levels of teaching and learning information data curation framework.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the factors needed to introduce knowledge management systems to university libraries in Korea, to suggest various methods needed to offer much more improved services of a library than now by investigating the current situations about introducing such factors in national and pubic university libraries in Korea. Almost all of the 33 university libraries selected the subject of investigation have offered the on-line reference service, e-mail pushing service, and full text constructions out of the 11 knowledge management system elements presented in this study, but the other services else have been offered by less than half the number of the libraries. The findings suggest to greatly improve the current services of libraries such as information education and selective dissemination of information, and immediately to introduce new systems including e-book and wireless service systems in order to the university competitiveness. The study implies that each library has already introduced the knowledge management systems, in proportion to a budget of the library, ifs librarian number, and a degree restructuring organization, and that an introduction of knowledge management systems such as policy and culture of organization, its librarian number, and its related security of budget takes the most important role in improving services of a library.

  • An academic library is one of the largest information sources for international students to obtain learning resources, which have a great impact on their studies. However, most academic libraries currently have not provided adequate multilingual services except English, which makes it difficult for international students whose mother language is not English to perform academic work. Accordingly, the present study defines the customized services for international students as the ones that have been supported in ltiple languages among academic library services and aims to examine their effect on user satisfaction in academic libraries. Furthermore, the study has compared international students' satisfaction with academic libraries - one that provides appropriate customized services with the other that does not. The surveys have been conducted with Chinese international students in two different universities and a total of 138 responses were analyzed. The study found that the customized services for the international students influenced their satisfaction with library use. In particular, multilingual services had positive effects on satisfaction with services such as brochures/signs, access to and use of resources through the homepage, and user instruction. The findings of the study suggest practical insights on how academic libraries provide effective services for supporting international students' academic tasks.
