The Impact of Interaction between Cloud and Longwave Radiation In Asia Monsoon Circulation (구름-장파복사 상호작용이 아시아 몬순 순환에 미치는 영향)

  • 구름의 몬순의 활동에 있어서 직접적으로나 간접적으로 영향을 준다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 구름이 몬순의 활동에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 알아보기 위해 ISCCP 구름자료와 GAME 재분석 자료를 입력자료로한 장파 복사 모델을 수행하였다. 모델 수행의 결과로 얻어진 대기 상부에서의 플럭스는 CERES 관측치와 비교하였으며, 구름에 의한 가열율은 몬순활동을 해석하기 위해 사용하였다. 구름이 몬순에 끼치는 영향을 파악하기 위해 맑은 대기의 가열율과 구름을 포함한 평균 대기의 가열율의 차이를 구하였으며, 이를 수평과 연직분포의 관점에서 해석하였다. 가열율의 지리적 분포는 수평적으로는 인도양에서 장파 복사 가열율의 최대가 나타났으며, 가열의 최저 (냉각)은 티벳고원에 나타났다. 이러한 공간적 분포는 구름이 남북방향으로 차등가열을 유발시키고 있음을 보여주고 있어 구름의 분포가 열적인 몬순순환을 강화시켜주고 있음을 시사하고 있다. 이러한 차등가열의 강화는 동서방향으로도 나타나 구름이 동서방향 순환에도 영향을 줄 수 있음을 보여준다. 구름에 의한 복사 가열의 연직구조는 운정에 의한 냉각과 운저에 의한 가열이 일어날 수 있음을 보여주고 있으며, 이로 인해 대기의 불안정성이 높아져 연직 운동을 향상시킬 수 있는 역할을 하고 있음이 밝혀졌다. 즉 몬순순환에 의해 생성된 구름은 구름 생성의 원인이 되었던 순환을 더욱 강화시키고 있음을 보이고 있다.

  • Three-dimensional distributions of longwave radiation flux for the April-September 1998 period are generated from radiative transfer calculations using the GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME) reanalysis temperature and humidity profiles and International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) cloudiness as inputs to understand the effect of cloud radiative forcing in the monsoon season. By subtracting the heating of the clear atmosphere from the cloudy radiative heating, cloud-induced atmospheric radiative heating has been obtained. Emphasis is placed on the impact of horizontal gradients of the cloud-generated radiative heating on the Asian monsoon. Cloud-induced heating exhibits its maximum heating areas within the Indian Ocean and minimum heating over the Tibetan Plateau, which establishes the north-south oriented differential heating gradient. Considering that the differential heating is a ultimate source generating the atmospheric circulation, the cloud-induced heating gradient established between the Indian Ocean and the Plateau can enhance the strength of the north-south Hadley-type monsoon circulation. Cooling at cloud top and warming at cloud bottom, which are the vertical distributions of cloud-induced heating, can exert on the monsoon circulation by altering the atmospheric stability.

  • The considerations for remaining life of ACSR (Aluminum Stranded Conductors Steel Reinforced) in transmission lines have become gradually important to hold reliability and stability of power supply. The remaining life of ACSR exposed to the atmosphere for a long period may rely on deterioration caused by environmental indices such as atmospheric corrosion, galvanic corrosion, crevice corrosion and fatigue corrosion. One of reduction of useful life in overhead transmission lines built on the ridge of mountain is often caused by forest fires.This paper deals with investigation of strength deterioration performance of ASCR due to fires through several testing and analyzing data for tension load and extension of blazed ACSR. Test samples are ACSR 480[$\textrm{mm}^2$] conductors, which are artificially fired to regular durations. Mechanical properties such as tension load and extension for fired ACSR conductors are tested and estimation functions for mechanical performances corresponding to fire duration are determined. As a result, it can be verified that both tension load and extension of ACSR are reduced by increasing fire duration. Hence, it is obvious that ACSR due to forest fires may lead to mechanical deterioration.

Changes in Volatile Components and Capsaicin of Oleoresin Red Pepper during Cooking (고추 Oleoresin의 가열조리중 휘발성 성분 및 Capsaicin의 변화)

  • Changes of volatile components in modified oleoresin red pepper during cooking at high temperature were investigated. Dried red pepper was milled to 100mesh of size particle and oily compounds were extracted by reduced pressure steam distrillation. The rest part was reextracted and concentrated. The extracts were combined. The same volume of water and 4% of polyglycerol condensed ricinoleate (PGDR) were added to the combined extract, and emulsified to make oleoresin red pepper 119 volatile compounds were separated from the dried red pepper and oleoresin and 35 components were identified in both samples. The major flavor compounds were identified to be 2-methoxy-phenol, 2, 6-bis(1, 1-dimethylethyl)-4-methyl-phenol, 1, 4-dimethylbenzene, thylbenzene, 1, 2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 2-methoxyl-4-methylphenol, 4-ethyl-2-methoxy-phenol, and 5- methyl-2-furancarboxyaldehyde, and their transferal from raw red pepper to oleresin was low. 93 voltilie compounds were isolated after 3 hours cooking at 100 and 82 volitile compounds were separated after that at $150^{\circ}C$. Degeneration of volatile compounds was peculiarly proportional to the temperature of cooling. Capsaicin was relatively stable during cooking and remaining ratio after cooking at 100 and $150^{\circ}C$ was 84.7% and 73.3%. respectively. Oleoresin from red pepper had a little antioxidation effect at $100^{\circ}C$ cooking, but, antioxidation effect at $150^{\circ}C$ cooking was not shown due to degradation of capsaicin.

  • The height of the atmospheric boundary layer indicates the peak developed when turbulence is generated by mixing heat and water vapor, and is generally determined through thermodynamic methods. Wind profilers produce atmospheric information from the scattering of signals sent into the atmosphere. A method for making the spectrum of turbulent components, turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate, and refractive index structure coefficient was presented to determine the atmospheric boundary layer depth. Compared with the vertical distribution characteristics of potential temperature and specific humidity based on radiosonde data, the determination method of the atmospheric boundary layer height from wind profiler output was evaluated as very useful.

  • Thermal stability and quality change during storage of red pepper oleoresin were studied. Upon heat treatment, carotenoids in oleoresin from red pepper were more stable under nitrogen than air. In the thermal stabilities, the presence of air at $100^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and 10 hours were 69.1% and 42.3%, respectively ; whereas, in the presence of nitrogen, 95.4% and 92.3%, respectively. In contrast, capsaicin was comparatively stable upon heat treatment in the presence of air. The retentions of capsaicin at $100^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and 10 hours were 84.7% and 81.3% with air, those were 90.7% and 87.5% with nitrogen, respectively. Color appearance showed close relation to the stability of total carotenoids during 60 days storage at varying temperatures ; $5^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C\;and\;40^{\circ}C$ were 69.4%, 48.0% and 35.1%, respectively. The degradation of total carotenoids during storage could be interpreted as a first order reaction. The activation energy obtained from the Arrhenius plot was 5.03 kcal/mole. Conversely, capsaicin was very stable under storage temperatures. More than 90% of capsaicin was remained upon completion of storage. In the mean time, pH of oleoresin was increased slightly as increasing storage temperatures.

  • 한전 원자력 환경기술원에서는 중ㆍ저준위 방사성폐기물 유리화 기술의 상용화 가능성을 입증하기 위한 유리화 실증설비를 건설하여 시험 중에 있으며 이 유리화 기술은 유도 가열식 저온로(Cold Crucible Melter, CCM)에 폐기물을 투입하는 기술로서 폐기물의 부피 축소 효과와 더불어 최종 고화물로 생성되는 폐기물의 침출율이 매우 낮은 장점을 지닌다. 이와 같은 유리화 공정은 기존의 소각처리에서와 같이 폐기물의 열적 산화과정에 의해 유해오염가스와 입자성 물질이 발생된다. 따라서 이를 처리하기 위해배기체 처리공정(Off Gas Treatment System, OGTS)을 설치하여 환경 배출기준(SO$_2$300ppm, NO$_2$ 200ppm, CO 600ppm, HCI 50ppm, 분진 100mg/Nm$^3$ 등)을 만족하도록 하였고 특히 입자성 물질은 후단 OGTS나 배관내 침적으로 인한 방사성 오염을 막기 위해 CCM 후단에서 효율적으로 제거되어야만 한다.   • In order to understand the microwave carbothermic reduction of steelmaking slag to recover Fe, the effects of gas atmosphere and carbon addition on the carbothermic reduction behavior of CaO-$SiO_2$-FeO slag were investigated. It was found that the maximum temperature and the reduction rate were higher in air than in nitrogen atmosphere. In addition, under air atmosphere, the maximum temperature and the reduction rate were increased by increasing the amount of additive carbon. When the carbon equivalent is 5, the maximum temperature reached as high as 1800K and the reduction rate was approximately 90%. As the Carbon equivalent increased further, the maximum temperature and the reduction rate did not change.

An Experimental Study of the Pool-Boiling CHF on Downward-Facing Plates (하향 평판에서의 풀비등 임계열유속에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • An experimental study has been peformed on the pool-boiling critical heat flux (CHF) phenomenon on downward -facing plates. The CHF for inclinations of -90$^{\circ}$(horizontally downward position), -88$^{\circ}$, -86$^{\circ}$, -84$^{\circ}$, -60$^{\circ}$ and -40$^{\circ}$ were measured using plate-type test sections of 20mm 200mm and 25mm 200mm in a pool of saturated water under atmospheric pressure. The measured CHF was lower for the wider test section and decreased as its orientation approached to the horizontally downward position. The lower CHF can be attributable to the increased difficulty for the bubbles in escaping from the heater surface. When compared with the previous works, the overall trends were similar; however, a transition angle, at which the decrease rate in the CHF was changed, was observed in the vicinity of -80$^{\circ}$.
