  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether single-parent family status affects children's school adjustment through children's self-care and media exposure. In addition, the study investigated the mediating effects of self-protection and media exposure of children by analyzing whether single-parent family status has effects on school adjustment through self-care and media exposure of children. For this purpose, we used data of 1,916 students in the 4th grade who participated in the 4th year of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). The results of the structural equation modeling showed that single-parent family environment not only had direct effects on the school adjustment, but also had effects on school adjustment through self-care of children. In addition, it was revealed that self-care of children influenced school adjustment through media exposure. One of the covariates, monthly income of households, did not affect the level of children's self-care. This result draws attention to the problems of the structural deficit of single-parent families. Therefore, political measures that correspond to the structural characteristics and special needs of single-parent families, along with their current financial support, are needed to improve the level of school adjustment of children from single-parent families.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how customer orientation (CO) reduces employee stress to customers (CSS). As emotional labor strategies [surface acting (SA) and deep acting (DA)] may mediate a role between CO and CSS, we verified multiple parallel mediator roles of SA and DA between CO and CSS. Our survey was administered to 323 school foodservice employees in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The results show that CO increased DA but did not decrease SA, and SA had a positive effect on CSS while DA did not influence CSS. These results did not support the parallel multiple mediator model. We conducted post-hoc model modification and proposed the serial multiple mediator model as a modified model. As a result, CO increased DA, DA reduced SA, and SA showed a positive relation with CSS. This double mediating effect through DA and SA between CO and CSS was significant. Based on these results, we found that CO did not have a direct effect on SA and CSS. DA did not directly reduce CSS while CO reduced SA and CSS through DA indirectly. DA had a negative effect on CSS through SA indirectly. Finally, implications and limitations of this are discussed.

  • In the environment of wireless communication system of IEEE 802.15.3a UWB standard, the angle of arrival(AOA) estimation technique for the indoor wireless positioning algorithms, based on the AOA parameter estimation which fits well for the wireless communication channel and shows high estimation accuracy, is proposed. After the UWB signal model, based on the IEEE 802.1.3a standard, is constructed, the average weighted MUSIC technique is proposed, which shows better estimation accuracy than those of conventional estimation technique. Through the simulation studies, the environment of the indoor wireless positioning system including the IEEE 802.15.3a channel is configured and we demonstrate better estimation results by the proposed AOA estimation technique than those from the conventional method.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-esteem (SE) and cooperation (CO) in the effect of parental attitudes (PA) as perceived by children on the quality of peer relationships (PR). To this end, the data of 1299 boys and 1278 girls in 4th grade were analyzed using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey data. The correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling using phantom variables and bootstrapping were performed by using SPSS and AMOS programs. The results of this study are as follows. First, perceived PA had a significant effect on SE, CO, and PR, SE had a significant effect on CO and PR, and CO had a significant effect on PR. Second, the serial multi-mediating model that assumed that SE and CO mediate the relationship between PA and PR was found to be appropriate. These results suggest that it is important to consider the child's self-esteem and cooperation with parenting attitudes to improve the child's peer relationship. Future research and clinical implications were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examined the relationship between social support, self-rated health status and life satisfaction among elderlies with chronic disease. For this study, 228 respondents suffered from chronic diseases and 75 healthy elderlies aged over 65 were analyzed. For the data analysis, a structural equation analysis and multi-group analysis were performed. As a result, higher levels of social support for elderlies with chronic diseases showed a higher level of life satisfaction, and the self-rated health status was found to be a significant mediator. The social support of the elderlies with chronic diseases significantly impacted their self-rated health status differently on healthy elderlies. To improve the self-rated health status and life satisfaction of elderlies with chronic disease, social services should be offered with social support providers. This study is meaningful in suggesting selective implications for elderlies with chronic disease.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether depression and social support have a multiple mediating effect in affecting the life satisfaction of the elderly with public and private transfer income. To this end, the 7th panel data (2017) among the data of the Korean Retirement & Income Study (KReLS) was used for analysis, and the analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling (SEM). As a result of the analysis, first, it was analyzed that the higher the public transfer income of the elderly, the lower the level of depression, the higher the social support, and the higher the satisfaction of life. Second, the partial mediating effect of depression was verified in the influence of the elderly's public transfer income and private transfer income on life satisfaction. Third, the partial mediating effect of social support was verified in the influence of the elderly's public transfer income and private transfer income on life satisfaction. Fourth, it was verified that the multiple mediating effects of depression and social support were significant in the effect of the elderly's public and private transfer income on life satisfaction. Based on the results of this analysis, policy proposals were made, such as revitalizing the Community Care program to strengthen the social support network of the elderly.

  • In this study, Neural Networks models were used to forecast daily streamflow at Jindong station of the Nakdong River basin. Neural Networks models consist of CASE 1(5-5-1) and CASE 2(5-5-5-1). The criteria which separates two models is the number of hidden layers. Each model has Fletcher-Reeves Conjugate Gradient BackPropagation(FR-CGBP) and Scaled Conjugate Gradient BackPropagation(SCGBP) algorithms, which are better than original BackPropagation(BP) in convergence of global error and training tolerance. The data which are available for model training and validation were composed of wet, average, dry, wet+average, wet+dry, average+dry and wet+average+dry year respectively. During model training, the optimal connection weights and biases were determined using each data set and the daily streamflow was calculated at the same time. Except for wet+dry year, the results of training were good conditions by statistical analysis of forecast errors. And, model validation was carried out using the connection weights and biases which were calculated from model training. The results of validation were satisfactory like those of training. Daily streamflow forecasting using Neural Networks models were compared with those forecasted by Multiple Regression Analysis Mode(MRAM). Neural Networks models were displayed slightly better results than MRAM in this study. Thus, Neural Networks models have much advantage to provide a more sysmatic approach, reduce model parameters, and shorten the time spent in the model development.
