The Effects of Multicultural Openness, Preoccupation, Multicultural Acceptability on Multicultural Efficacy of nursing students (간호대학생의 다문화 개방성, 고정관념, 다문화 수용성이 다문화 효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore degree of multicultural openness, preoccupation, multicultural acceptability, and multicultural efficacy, the factors influencing of multicultural efficacy of nursing students and to provide the basic data to increased multicultural efficacy. This research involved 299 nursing students in B and Y city. Data were collected from May 8, 2017 to 28. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. In results of the study, multiculture efficacy appeared as $3.92{\pm}0.54$. There were significant difference in multicultural efficacy with age, experience of class with multicultural students, experience of other languages class, foreign friends. There were positive correlation between multicultural efficacy and multicultural openness(r=.396, p<.001), between multicultural efficacy and multicultural acceptability(r=.471, p<.001), negative correlation between multicultural efficacy and preoccupation (r=-.464, p<.001). Regression analysis showed 36.1% of variance in nursing students multicultural efficacy can by age, foreign friends, preoccupation, multicultural acceptability. Through this research requires the fellow study to determine the various factors affecting multicultural efficacy of nursing students. And it is necessary to development education and program that can enhance multicultural efficacy is required.

The Effects of Elementary School Students' Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Experience, Parents' Stereotype on Multicultural afficacy in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 다문화 인식과 다문화 경험, 학부모의 고정관념이 초등학생의 다문화 효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of the study are to understand how multicultural efficacy is different and to affecting the multicultural efficacy. To achieve the goals, the study conducted surveys to examine an interrelation of multicultural efficacy on 272 elementary school students in Namyangju-si with questionnaires. First, the results showed that multicultural efficacy of elementary school students scored 2.84 on five point scale. Second, the elements that affected multicultural efficacy of elementary school students include 'openness', 'acceptance', 'respect' of elementary school student toward multiculture awareness, at the same time, elementary students' indirect experience of multiculture and direct experience also make significant influence. The study suggests to develop multiculture-related educational programs, in order to enhance multicultural efficacy and multicultural awareness of elementary students.

The Mediating Effect of Emotional Intelligence on the Relationship between Multicultural Perception and Multicultural Efficacy of Nursing University Students (간호대학생의 다문화인식과 다문화효능감의 관계에서 감성지능의 매개효과)

  • This study attempted to provide basic data for developing strategies to improve the multicultural efficacy of nursing university students by identifying the mediating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between multicultural perception and multicultural efficacy of nursing university students. The subjects of the study were 179 nursing students at two universities in J province and G city. The SPSS/23.0 program was used to analyze the data with descriptive statistics; an independent t-test, analysis of variance ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and mediating effect analysis were performed using Process Macro 4.0. As a result of the study, nursing students multicultural efficacy was found to be positively correlated with multicultural awareness(r=.596, p<.001) and a positive correlation with emotional intelligence(r=.620, p<.001). Emotional intelligence showed a mediating effect on the relationship between multicultural perception and multicultural efficacy(β=.471, p<.001). Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to development and apply systematic programs to increase multicultural perception and increase emotional intelligence for improving the multicultural efficacy of nursing university students.

The Relationship among Early Childhood Teachers' Perception on the Purpose of Multicultural Education, Multicultural Sensitivity and Multicultural Teaching Efficacy (유아교사의 다문화교육목표 관점 및 다문화감수성과 다문화교수효능감 간의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the multicultural sensitivity of early childhood teachers, their perception on the purpose of multicultural education and any possible differences in those regards according to their background variables in an effort to determine the influence of the multicultural sensitivity of early childhood teachers and their perception on the purpose of multiculitural education on multicultural sensitivity, as the two variables were closely bound up with multicultural teaching efficacy. The subjects in this study were 283 selected early childhood teachers. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for perception on the purpose of multicultural education, caring-centered perception was most common among the early childhood teachers, and their scores in multicultural sensitivity were a little above average. Second, there were significant differences among the teachers in multicultural sensitivity and perception on the purpose of multicultural education according to career, age and academic credential. Third, multicultural sensitivity and four perceptions on the purpose of multicultural education had a significant positive correlation with multicultural teaching efficacy. Multicultural sensitivity exerted the largest influence on multicultural teaching efficacy. Among the four perceptions of the purpose of multicultural education, caring-centered perception and social action-centered one turned out to have an impact on the subvariables of multicultural teaching efficacy. This study will provide basic information to prepare some solutions that enforce ealry childhood teachers' mulitucultutral education ability by improving their multicultural teaching efficacy.

The Research on Multicultural Experiences Influence the Multicultural Understanding and Characteristics toward Multicultural Education of Early Childhood Preservice Teachers in Korea and the United States (한국과 미국 예비 유아교사의 다문화 관련 경험에 따른 다문화 이해 및 다문화교육 관련 특성에 대한 연구)

  • This research examines how experiences related to multicultural issues influence the understanding, perception, attitudes, and self-efficacy of early childhood preservice teachers toward multicultural education in Korea and the United States. 512 early childhood preservice teachers in Korea and the United States participated. Their multiculture-related experiences and their understanding, multiculture-related characteristics(perception, attitudes, and self-efficacy concerning multiculture) were measured using questionnaires. The key findings are as follows. First, more preservice teachers in the United States took multiculture-related courses, had experiences with children from multicultural families, traveled to other countries, and took courses with students from multicultural background than their counterparts in Korea. Second, there were no significant differences in understanding of multiculture according to their multiculture-related experiences between Korean and the United States preservice teachers. Third, there were no significant correlations between preservice teachers' multicultural experiences and perception and attitude toward the multicultural education in the United States. On the contrary, Korean preservice teachers who took classes with students from multicultural families showed better perception and attitude toward multicultural education. Regarding self-efficacy, there were no differences with varying multiculture-related experiences in the United States, whereas Korean preservice teachers who took multiculture-related courses exhibited higher degree of self-efficacy toward multicultural education.

The Effect of Multicultural Family's Functions on the Social Competence of Multicultural Children -Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Multicultural Family Mothers' Parental Efficacy- (다문화가정의 가족기능이 다문화아동의 사회적 능력에 미치는 영향 -다문화가정 어머니의 양육효능감의 매개효과 검증-)

  • This study is designed to verify structural relations between multicultural family's functions, multicultural family mothers' parental efficacy, and multicultural family children's social competence with the subjects of multicultural family mothers and children. To attain the goal, the researcher collected data through a survey with a self-administered questionnaire conducted to multicultural family mothers and multicultural center workers taking care of multicultural children and utilized 156 sheets for final analysis. According to the study results, multicultural family's functions exert positive effect on multicultural family mothers' parental efficacy, and multicultural family mothers' parental efficacy indicates positive effect on multicultural children's social competence. Also, multicultural family mothers' parental efficacy has completely mediating effect in the relations between multicultural family's functions and multicultural children's social competence. Based on these study results, the researcher suggests ways to intervene with multicultural family mothers and multicultural family in order to help multicultural children grow and develop soundly.

Influence of Bias and Multicultural Attitude on Multicultural Efficacy in Elementary Students (초등학생의 편견과 다문화적태도가 다문화효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of bias and the multicultural attitude of elementary schoolchildren on the multicultural efficacy and to seek for the right direction of multicultural education in elementary school. To attain this purpose, this study asked 416 elementary schoolchildren to questions in Jeonbuk Province. The results are as follows. First, there is a significant difference on bias, multicultural attitude, and efficacy to gender and grade. Second, there is a meaningful correlation among bias, multicultural attitude, and multicultural efficacy. Third, the elementary schoolchildren's bias has a significant influence on the multicultural attitude and efficacy. Fourth, the elementary schoolchildren's multicultural attitude exercises a meaningful effect on the multicultural efficacy. According to this survey, a variety of multicultural programs for the elementary schoolchildren are needed to develop and apply in substance at the level of their eyes. In addition to that, a diversity of studies are needed constantly for making the elementary schoolchildren get some positive understanding on various cultures.

A Study on the Relationship between Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Efficacy in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 다문화인식과 다문화효능감과의 관계 연구)

  • The purposes of the study are to understand how multicultural awareness and multicultural efficacy is different and to investigate the factors of multicural awareness affecting the multicultural efficacy. To achieve the goals, the study conducted surveys to examine an interrelation of multicural awareness and efficacy on 329 elementary school students in North Jeolla Province with questionnaires. First, the results showed significant differences in the multicultural awareness and efficacy based on all the ground factors. Second, it was found that elementary school students had significant relations in multicultural awareness and efficacy. Third, the multicultural awareness among elementary school students significantly affected their multicultural efficacy. The study suggests that sustaining multicultural education shall be implemented for elementary school students to have right and positive minds and various studies shall be conducted to nurture values in their lives to live together.

The Relationships between Preschool Teachers' Beliefs about the Purpose of Multicultural Education and Their Attitudes and Teaching Efficacy with Respect to Multicultural Education (유아교육기관 교사의 다문화교육 목표에 대한 관점, 다문화교육에 대한 태도와 다문화 교수효능감과의 관계)

  • This study aims to explore the relationships between preschool teachers' beliefs about the purpose of multicultural education and their attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education. For this purpose, 296 teachers, who were working at kindergartens and daycare centers, were chosen for this study and the survey method was used to collect data. The TMAS (Teacher Multicultural Attitude Survey), Multicultural Teaching Efficacy Scale, and teachers' belief about the purpose of multicultural education were used to evaluate teachers' multicultural-related variables. To analyze the data, frequency measurements, percentile, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient were used. Through this study, these findings were found: 1) Teachers most perceive human relations as the purpose of multicultural education. 2) There is no relationship between the belief in multicultural education and the attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education. However, The attitudes about multicultural curriculum show meaningful differences, depending on the teachers' beliefs about the purpose of multicultural education. 3) The attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education are strongly related to each other. These findings are discussed with respect to the necessity of multicultural education curriculum development for preschool teachers.

A Study on Factors Affecting Multicultural Efficacy of Early Childhood Teachers (유아교사들의 다문화효능감에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구)

  • The purpose of this stud is to find out what factors that multicultural awareness and multicultural attitude of early childhood teachers affect multicultural efficacy are. In order to achieve this research purpose, the survey was carried out by using questionnaires targeting 394 early childhood teachers working in Early Childhood Educational Institutions located in I city. The response results are as follows: First, multicultural awareness, multicultural attitude, multicultural efficacy of early childhood teachers did not show any difference by workplace. Second, it turned out that there is a significant correlation between multicultural awareness, multicultural efficacy of early childhood teachers. Third, it turned out that multicultural awareness and multicultural attitude of early childhood teachers have a positive influence on multicultural efficacy. In view of the results of this study, multicultural efficacy can be improved when awareness and attitude of early childhood teachers on multicultural education are changed so it is thought that various studies that can continuously conduct multicultural education training programs etc. for early childhood teachers should be conducted.
