This study is conducted to analyse the process and the pattern of motivation for musical expression in clinical music therapy for the adults in the mental health center. The participant were 8 adults purposive sampling who had more than one year music therapy experience in the mental health center and their age ranged from 27 to 53. A major category derived and analysed from the grounded theory method by Strauss and Corbin. The qualitative analysis indicated that motivation for musical expression in music therapy, which was the central phenomenon in this study, was determined by the music therapist and songs used in the sessions. The central phenomenon was caused by the therapist's friendly attitude, high musical capacity, the familarity of the selected songs and the significancy of the lyrics of selected songs. The levels of reliability about the therapist's personality and musical ability as a professional music therapist and the positive arousal of the songs used in sessions affected as the contextual condition. Spontaneous musical expression in music therapy brought the escape from reality, release of stress and sharing by the intervening condition 'empathy' and this resulted in mood regulation, the instillation of hope and group cohesion. It has been found that there were three types of motivation in music therapy: intrinsic motivation, relationship dependent extrinsic motivation and evasive motivation.

Results: The record of 'Arirang' was first confirmed as 'Arirang Taryeong(song)' in 'Hanyang-ga' in Maecheonyarok (Maecheon's history) by Hwang (1894). After that, Hulbert (1896) published the first modern sheet music and lyrics of <A-ra-rung> on music paper. In addition, Lee Sang Jun (1914) edited <Old Korean Folk Songbook, First volume> and recorded the lyrics and score titled 'Arirang Taryeong' on page 25 and the long Arirang Taryeong. Conclusions: Literally, the origin of 'Arirang in Seoul' is 'Arirang Taryeong' first recorded in 'Hanyang-ga' of Maecheonyarok. Arirang song, which originated in Hanyang, can be called Seoul Arirang. Differently from instruments which synthesized sounds and tones in the past, voice synthesis engine for music production has reached to the level of creating music as if actual artists were singing. It uses the samples of human voices naturally connected to the different levels of phoneme within the frequency range. Voice synthesis engine is not simply limited to the music production but it is changing cultural paradigm through the second creations of new music type including character music concerts, media productions, albums, and mobile services. Currently, voice synthesis engine technology makes it possible that users input pitch, lyrics, and musical expression parameters through the score editor and they mix and connect voice samples brought from the database to sing. New music types derived from such a development of computer music has sparked a big impact culturally. Accordingly, this paper attempts to examine the specific case studies and the synthesis technologies for users to understand the voice synthesis engine more easily, and it will contribute to their variety of music production.

The purpose of this study was to compare the kinds of plays and the meanings of words in play songs among children of Han heritage. A total of three data sets were used. Data for two of the data sets were obtained from only South Korean children in 1990 and 2005, respectively, while the other data set contained responses from South Korean, Chinese Korean, and North Korean children collected in 1999. The three societies of Han heritage differed in the level of economic and industrial development and ideological orientation, and each society tended to socialize and educate their children in different ways. The kind of plays and the lyrics of the play songs were different in each stage by the level of economic and industrial development, and ideological orientation. In each society, a dominant play changed periodically. For instance, physical play decreased while television, video, and internet game plays increased. The increase in internet game play was related to the level of industrial development. Although three groups shared some common play songs prior to 1945, they have developed their own play songs after 1945 according to their respective social ideological characteristics. Notwithstanding these differences in play songs, common themes, materials, rhythms, and the Korean emotionality exist across all groups.
