The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of multiwall carbon nanotube functionalized with carboxyl group (MWCNT-COOH) on the mechanical properties of dental glassionomer cement (GIC). MWCNT-COOH was prepared by the acid oxidative method. The MWCNT-COOH was incorporated into a commercial GIC powder or liquid at 0.5 wt% or 1.0 wt%. The net setting time of the cements was measured in accordance with ISO 9917 (Dental water-based cement). Specimens for compressive strength ($4mm{\varphi}{\times}6mm$), diametral tensile strength ($6mm{\varphi}{\times}4mm$) and flexure strength with modulus ($2mm{\times}2mm{\times}25mm$) were prepared by mixing with the cement liquid and kept in water bath of $(37{\pm}1)^{\circ}C$. Mechanical tests were conducted in 1 d, 7 d, and 14 days at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Compressive strength of GIC mixed with 0.5 wt% MWCNT-COOH increased significantly at 7 d. However, overall mechanical properties of GIC modified with MWCNT were not significantly increased with a delayed setting time, in comparison with control cement. Overall results indicated that the MWCNT/GIC composite cements showed a limited strengthening effect for dental glassionomer cement.
Cost effectiveness is an important parameter for producing DSSCs as compared to the widely used conventional silicon based solar cells. A fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate coated with a catalytic amount of platinum is used as counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cell. Carbonaceous materials are quite attractive to replace platinum due to their high electronic conductivity, corrosion resistance towards $I_{2}$, good catalytic effect and low cost. In this paper, the unit DSSCs with Pt and CNT as a counter electrode were connected in series-parallel externally, then the current-voltage curves were investigated to find out the connection characteristics of the DSSC with CNT counter electrode. The connection characteristics of the DSSC with CNT counter electrode is superior to that of the DSSC with Pt counter electrode. And a parallel connection of the DSSC with CNT counter electrode has higher efficiency than a series connection of that.
The Pt-, Ni- and Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers for gas sensors were prepared by the electrospinning of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofibers containing Pt, Ni, and Cr precursors, the sputtering of $SnO_2$ on the electrospun PVP nanofibers, and the removal of sacrificial PVP parts by heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Pt-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers showed high response ($R_a/R_g=210.5$, $R_g$: resistance in gas, $R_a$: resistance in air) to 5 ppm $C_2H_5OH$ at $350^{\circ}C$ with negligible cross-responses to other interference gases (5 ppm trimethylamine, $NH_3$, HCHO, p-xylene, toluene and benzene). Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$nanofibers showed the selective detection of p-xylene at $400^{\circ}C$. In contrast, no significant selectivity to a specific gas was found in Ni-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers. The selective and sensitive detection of gases using Pt-decorated and Cr-decorated tubular $SnO_2$ nanofibers were discussed in relation to the catalytic promotion of gas sensing reaction.
In this paper, we prepared miniature fuse fabricated with carbon nanotube (CNT) fiber for the use of low rated current under 1 A and high speed operation under 4ms. CNT fuses were fabricated in the form of universal modular fuse (UMF) with different diameter of CNT fibers defined by multiplying the CNT threads. Electrical properties of the CNT fuses were measured such as resistance, rated current, and operation time with current. Resistance of the CNT fuse decreased and rated current increased with the diameter of the CNT fuses, respectively. Consequently, the operation time with current increased with the diameter of the CNT fuses. The CNT fuses fabricated in this work had broad range of low rated current from 0.05 to 1.25 A by multiplying the CNT threads. Operation time was measured about 3.6ms which was applicable to the UMF.
염료감응형 태양전지의 상대전극으로 MWCNT(multi-walled carbon nanotube)의 농도 (0.01~0.06g)를 달리하여 FTO(fluorine-doped tin oxide) glass에 분산시켜 상대전극을 만들었다. 그리고 glass/FTO/$TiO_2$/Dye(N719)/electrolyte(C6DMII,GSCN)/MWCNT/FTO/glass 구조를 가진 0.45$cm^2$급 DSSC(dye-sensitized solar cells) 소자를 만들었다.
While the demand for robots in the manufacturing industry has dramatically increased, the industrial robots' functionality is mainly determined by the effector attached to the end of their arms. They need a flexible gripping system that can act as a human hand and easily grasp a variety of objects, which requires resilient sensors. This study clarifies the electrical output characteristics of elastic tactile sensors according to contact terminals because the output characteristics of the tactile sensors vary greatly, depending on the contact material and the method of contact with the conductive wire. Our research considers the Three Roll Mill and Paste Mixer as the dispersion medium, and a nickel- and gold-plated brass electrode as the contact terminal.
Microbes have been used extensively in various fields of researches and industries but has not been used widely for microfluidic biosensor applications because it is difficult to immobilize properly to a small space. Therefore, we developed a microbial immobilization method for microfluidic devices using single-walled nanotubes and dielectrophoretic force. Single-walled nanotubes and Escherichia coli were aligned between two cantilever electrodes by a positive dielectrophoretic force resulting in a film of single-walled nanotubes with attached Escherichia coli. The optimal condition of film formation without a cell lysis was investigated. Diameter of single-walled nanotubes and electric field (intensity and duration of application) had an effect on the cell viability. On the other hand, the cell concentration of the suspension did not affect the cell viability. Paraoxon was detected using single-walled nanotubes film with attached Escherichia coli that expressed organophosphorus hydrolase. This film which is suspended from the substrate showed faster response time than sensors that are not suspended from the substrate.
We have grown carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPECVD) method, which has been regard as one of the most promising candidates for the synthesis of CNTs due to the vertical alignment, the low temperature and the large area growth. We use methane ($CH_4$) and hydrogen ($H_2$) gas for the growth of CNTs. 60 nm thick Ni catalytic layer were deposited on the TiN coated glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering method. In this work, we report the effects of pressure on the growth of CNTs. We have changed pressure of processing (10 $\sim$ 20 Torr) deposition of CNTs. SEM (Scanning electron microscopy) images show diameter, length and cross section state CNTs.
