  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of time pressure, discretionary time, and subjective well-being(SWB) of university students. In order to achieve it, 493 university students(220 male, 232 female) completed a set of questionnaires about time pressure, discretionary time, subjective well-being. The t-test, multiple regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. The results are as follows. First, There were significant differences among the positive emotion, the negative emotion and time pressure. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the satisfaction of life and discretionary time according to gender. Second, time pressure was negatively correlated with the satisfaction of life of university students but positively correlated with the negative emotion. The discretionary time was positively correlated with the satisfaction of life of university students but negatively correlated with the negative emotion. Time pressure and discretionary time were not correlated with the positive emotion. Finally time pressure significantly correlated with the satisfaction of life, the negative emotion. And It seems that time pressure had an especially strong effect on the negative emotion. Such results imply that time pressure is important for reducing university students's the negative emotion, a subfactor of subjective wellbeing.

  • The present study examined memory accuracy for faces with positive, negative and neutral emotional expressions to test whether their emotional content can affect visual working memory (VWM) performance. Participants remembered a set of face pictures in which facial expressions of the faces were randomly assigned from pleasant, unpleasant and neutral emotional categories. Participants' task was to report presence or absence of an emotion change in the faces by comparing the remembered set against another set of test faces displayed after a short delay. The change detection accuracies of the pleasant, unpleasant and neutral face conditions were compared under two memory exposure duration of 500ms vs. 1000ms. Under the duration of 500ms, the accuracy in the pleasant condition was higher than both unpleasant and neutral conditions. However the difference disappeared when the duration was extended to 1000ms. The results indicate that a positive facial expression can improve VWM accuracy relative to the negative or positive expressions especially when there is not enough time for forming durable VWM representations.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data which can effectively improve young children's peer interaction behavior. For this purpose, this study examined the differences in the peer interactions of 4-year-old or 5-year-old children according to gender and age, and relationship among young children's temperament and emotion regulation, mother's emotional expressiveness, and teacher-child relationships, and then analyzed the relative influence of these variables on peer interaction behavior. The results are as follows. It appeared that boys' positive peer interaction is higher than girls'. Boys' negative peer interaction also is higher than girls'. In addition, the positive peer interaction of 5-year-old children is higher than that of 4-year-old children. As a result of examining the relative influence on peer interactions, children's emotion regulation ability is the most influential variable.

  • In the elementary school period, since the developmental stage in the area of emotional regulation is immature, it is necessary to develop emotional regulation ability. In order to promote emotional regulation, this study provides an emotional regulation art class that utilizes the right brain function. Results were derived by analyzing through pre- and post-questions and post-interviews. As a result of the pre-post analysis, among the sub-elements of emotional regulation after class, 'Self-Emotion Recognition and Expression', 'Emotional Recognition and Consideration of Others', and 'Interpersonal Relationships' were statistically high. As a result of interview analysis, it was found that all students had a positive effect in the emotional regulation sub-item. As a result, they recognized and understood their emotions after class rather than before class, and had the effect of expressing emotions by purifying negative emotions into positive emotions. It is suggested that it is necessary to develop a program that applies various teaching and learning methods for emotional regulation art class in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and emotional perception bias. We used the useful field of view (UFOV) task to measure the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and the emotional perception task to measure positive and negative emotional perception bias. A total of 48 participants took part in this study with 23 participants in the senior group and 25 in the junior group. The senior group showed slower response time and lower accuracy than the junior group in the UFOV task, indicating that the senior group had lower visuo-spatial attention allocation ability than the junior group. In the emotional perception task, the senior group showed both positive and negative emotional perception bias more than the junior group. The correlation analysis showed that the negative emotional perception bias for accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the response time to the stimuli presented in the visual angle 30° in the UFOV task (r=.289). In addition, positive emotional perception bias for the accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the accuracy of the stimuli presented in the visual angles 10°, 20°, and 30° in the UFOV task (r=.305, r=.322, and r=.299, respectively). However, it showed a negative correlation with the response time of the stimuli presented in the same location in the UFOV task (r=-.345, r=-.295, r=-.308). These results suggest that aging is associated with a decrease in the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and perceptual bias toward positive and negative emotions. In addition, the positive and negative emotional perception biases associated with aging are potentially related to the reduced visuo-spatial attention allocation ability.

  • The positive relationship between older driver's mobility and life satisfaction is well established(e. g., Collins, 2008). The present study showed that this relationship can be changed by older drivers' motivation, aspects of mobility, and affectivity. Specifically, this study examined whether aspects of mobility(amount of driving measured by travel distance and time: 'AD' or amount of driving for social activity: 'DSA') can be differed as a function of approach/avoidance motivation(measured by BIS/BAS scale, Carver et al., 1994) and positive/negative affect(PA/NA; measured by SPANAS, Diener et al., 2009) mediate the relationship between the aspects of mobility and life satisfaction(measured by SWLS, Diener et al., 1985). Self-reported scores of the variables of 132 older drivers(ages of over 65) were analyzed using correlation analysis and path analysis. The results can be summarized as followings. First, the older driver's BAS was found to be positively related to DSA, but BIS was negatively to AD. In particular, DSA positively mediated the relationship between BAS and PA. Second, PA, in turn, positively mediated the relationship between DSA and life satisfaction. The results can provide useful insights to understand the relationship between older driver's driving property, motivation, affectivity and life satisfaction.

  • This study had three purposes. First, the effects of job-related affective states on emotional labor (deep acting and surface acting) of employees engaging in service job were examined. Second, previous studies focused on the negative effects of emotional labor on job attitudes. On the other hand, this study dealt with not only the negative effects of emotional labor but also its positive effects. In particular, this study examined the effects of emotional labor on positive job attitudes, such as job commitment and job involvement, as well as negative job attitudes, such as exhaustion and cynicism. Finally, this study examined the mediation effect of emotional labor on the relationship between the job-related affective state and job attitudes. The data was collected from 150 employees working in 15 service firms in Korea. The results were as follows. First, the positive job-related affective state increased the deep-acting. On the other hand, negative job-related affective state increased surface-acting. Second, the main effect of deep-acting on positive job attitudes (dedication and vigor) was significant. In addition, the main effects of surface-acting on the negative job attitudes (exhaustion and cynicism) was significant. Finally, the mediating effect of deep-acting on the relationship between positive job-related affective state and positive job attitudes was significant. In addition, surface-acting mediated the relationship between negative job-related affective state and negative job attitudes. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are provided in the discussion session.

  • This study was to confirm the effect of emotional intelligence on organizational commitment of general hospital nurses and the mediating effect of affect. Data was collected using a structured online self-report questionnaire on emotional intelligence, organizational commitment, and both negative and positive affect from 236 nurses working in general hospitals. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and a parallel multiple mediation model. This analysis was conducted with IBM SPSS Statistics (Version 27.0) and the PROCESS macro (Model 4). This study's findings revealed that emotional intelligence was significant correlated with positive affect, negative affect, and organizational commitment. Emotional intelligence had a significant direct effect on positive affect (β=.16, p=.015), negative affect (β=-.28, p<.001), and organizational commitment (β=.33, p<.001). Positive affect (β=.20, p=.001) and negative affect (β=-.25, p<.001), had a significant direct effect on organizational commitment. And the mediating effect of positive affect (β=.03, 95% bootstrap CI=0.01~0.07) and negative affect (β=.07, 95% bootstrap CI=0.03~0.12) was also significant. Based on these research results, it will be necessary to research various training programs that can manage emotional intelligence and affect together in developing programs to improve nurses' organizational commitment.
