This study aims to suggest more efficient ways of teaching English more related to but distinct from major English, based on the needs and awareness of the students of English Education Department. For this, interviews and surveys have been carried out targeting some English Education majors. The results show that the satisfaction level of students is relatively low, marking around the score '3'. While the satisfaction level about classroom environment including the multi-media equipment, and professors' teaching ability, quality and methods is higher compared with other factors, the improvement of English skills and interest-causing levels are lower on average. Besides, this study also includes the surveys on the needs of students for various teaching programs, differentiated classes and qualified instructors. Based on the results, this study makes three suggestions as follows; (1) the opening of some specific English classes for English-education majors (2) the development of English-conversation classes related to English-education majors (3) the development of communication-centered English reading based on English literature.

This paper aims to examine the relationship between global competence and English learning motivation, thereby finding an effective way to strengthen learners' global competence. Data are collected from 361 freshmen studying in a compulsory English course at H University in Seoul, using a survey with five-point Likert scale. Results reveal that there is a positive relationship between global competence and all four components of English learning motivation(integrativeness, instumentality, intrinsic and external motivation). Especially the correlation between global competence and learners' integrativeness is found to be the highest. Thus, this paper proposes two applicable class activities under the assumption that strengthening integrativeness is the most effective way to promote global competence.

This paper emphasizes the effect of using poetry in the University General English education and suggests the teaching method of English education with a Frost's poem, "Out, Out- ." These days, learner-centered English education and integrative study of four linguistic functions, reading, listening, speaking and writing are considered important in the University General English class. Poetry is very effective text for the education purposes. Poetry techniques like a visual image, rhythm, rhyme, or repetition are actually mnemonics and strongly connected to the enhancement of memory and oral linguistic function. This paper suggests the specific education methods in the poetry selection, pre-reading step, reading step and after- reading step with concrete examples of "Out, Out-." These education methods through the 'oral text' can be a good and sustainable model for learner-centered education.

Most universities have been concerned about Liberal Education; whether is it on universal truth, or on training job-specialists? In consequence, the curricula have been reformed and promoted diversely. In this aspect, has been developed as convergence education. I selected two easy and short texts and tried to make the students practice and memorize the dialogues as many as possible. At the end of the class, the students presented given assignments, with theatrical performance. This study carried out the research of students' presentation and theatrical performances on the basis of group study, together with a survey of the results of questionnaires and lecture evaluation. Therefore it was a exploratory study to check out significance of variables through the correlation analysis. The students' questionnaires showed the improvement of their English ability, together with their knowledge about literature and drama, cultivating humanities through the theatrical performance. It may be said that has achieved multi-functional effects of English class converged literature, theatre and humanities even for one semester.

The purpose of this study is to examine satisfaction with liberal education at H university. In particular, the study is interested in students' and satisfaction with the courses of and , compulsory liberal studies. As a result of analysis, students were most satisfied with 'the percentage of liberal studies credits', being followed by 'the number of students per liberal studies class' and 'the systemicity of curriculum.' The survey also showed that, in and , students were highly satisfied with 'chance for communication with native faculty, improvement of ral expression skills' and 'improvement of orthography and grammar skill and so on. With regard to items whose satisfaction were low, the survey showed that there was the lack of connectivity between liberal studies and employment in 3 categories in common. Therefore, a direction toward enhancement of efficiency in connection with career center and the like was required in addition to establishing, developing and specifying employment category in liberal studies.

The introduction of the communicative approach in the English language education brings in a Korean the English Program in Korea (EPIK), which is a Korean government sponsored program established 1995. by the Korean Ministry of Education improve Korean students' and teachers' communicative competency in English within the public school system in Korea. For this goal, EPIK invites English speakers from 7 major English-speaking countries. However, the effectiveness of this program has been questioned in Korea. Thus, the objective of this paper is to explore the current status, problems, and the directions for the program to be aimed at, and for the effectiveness of EPIK through investigation of the program. Then this paper presents some possible solutions and suggestions including the possibility of VR use in orientation and training programs in order to empower both Korean teachers of English and English native teachers in Korea.

The English Conversation class as a required course in S university is designed as blended learning to reinforce English education. To identify the influence of this blended learning on its students' achievement, the research about what variables are related with it was conducted. Data analysis indicates that gender, major, military service, overseas stay, face-to-face attendance, quiz, and online attendance have an effect on the student achievement. However, the students' style of online learning--study place, study time, and study frequency--doesn't have any relationship with their achievement. Their satisfaction with the online study was questioned in the three areas such as instructor, contents, and system, among which only the 'system' area has an influence on their achievement.

The wide range of the Freshmen English placement test scores implies the necessity of differentiating classes. However without a careful and detailed plan, there could be trial and error which would cause harmful and complicated troubles to students. This paper will report a case of grouping Freshmen for English classes at the Engineering College of a provincial university. The main procedures include preparing and executing the placement test, grouping classes, preparing and executing a common final test, preparing grading policy, and reporting. Each procedure is going to be explained and evaluated to improve the quality of English classes and the ability of students at the Engineering College.
