  • The purpose of this study is to clarify conceptually the difference of instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting by analyzing their own characteristics. The practices for instructional improvement are common in that fundamental objectives are improvement of instruction and development of teacher's professionalism in instruction. However, each area changed according to the social flow and the demands of the educational field and created a unique activity system. So, in order to get rid of this mixed use of these terms, it is meaningful to distinguish the concepts, attributes, and areas of each activity. The specific study questions were 1) what is the origin of coaching, supervision, and consulting? 2) how are instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting defined in existing research in korea? 3) how can we conceptually distinguish instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting? Based on reviewing various existing studies, First, this study investigated the conceptual origins and lexicons of coaching, supervision, and consulting, respectively, in addition reviewd the prior studies conducted in Korea with regard to instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting, and summarized how each concept is defined according to the researcher. Second, this study compared each two concept with another one. Finally, the existing definitions of instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting were analyzed to find out the inherent and common attributes of each concept. In conclusion, this study suggest that the concept of instructional consulting needs to be redefined to better reflect the characteristics of activities, and that studies that rethink the relationship between instructional coaching and instructional supervision are needed.

  • In this paper, implications for future curriculum compilation were sought by analyzing the process and results of compiling books for elementary school mathematics textbooks government published according to the 2015 revised curriculum. The 2015 revised elementary mathematics textbooks government published was operated with a systematic compilation system so that academia and school field experts across the country could demonstrate their expertise. As improvements in content, the unit and time to strengthen basic computational skills were increased, and the mathematical concept and principle introduction method and algorithm presentation method were improved, and the internal connection between contents was strengthened. The learning period was adjusted, such as moving and arranging contents that are difficult for students to understand to the upper semester or the upper grade. In the 1st and 2nd graders, the amount of reading was drastically reduced to suit the students' level of Korean, and sentences and vocabulary were improved, and instructions were briefly revised. As for editing and design improvements, illustrations of each unit's introduction and contextual pictures were presented in detail, and the characters in the textbook were consistently presented across all grades, giving children characters a role to actively participate in learning in the textbook. In the process of compiling, the media, the National Assembly, and civic groups raised opinions that sentences and vocabulary in first-year textbooks are more difficult than students' level of Hangeul education, that reducing textbooks makes it difficult for students to understand. Accordingly, efforts to improve textbook compilation and the results were viewed. Through the overall analysis as above, for future compilation of state-authored textbooks and certified textbooks, a plan to improve textbook compilation for students and teachers and a plan to operate compilation was proposed.

  • Competency means 'the ability to do something', and competency-based education means 'the process of education based on the concept of competency'. Competency-based education is generally implemented in general education. However, competency-based education has not yet been actively conducted in the field of Christian education. In particular, it has not been established academically on what competencies Christian alternative schools provide in common. Most of the previous studies related to competency-based education in Christian education are related to competency-based education conducted by Christian universities. Research related to competency in Christian alternative schools is mainly related to the professionalism of teachers or the ideology of Christian alternative schools. In other words, there are few specific studies on what kind of competency they provide to students attending Christian alternative schools. Therefore, this study aims to understand the reality of competency-based education conducted by Christian alternative schools using Delphi analysis techniques. Through this study, four goals and 20 competency elements of competency education pursued by Christian alternative schools were found. By categorizing the goals and elements of competency education, it can be divided into relationships with God, relationships with oneself, and relationships with others and the world. In conclusion, it was suggested that Christian alternative schools should provide education that pursues the universal purpose of Christian education based on specificity and reflect the goals and elements of competency education in the curriculum.

  • Based on the previous study (Park et al., 2015) which indicated positive results in the improvement of science teaching through the POCoM (Practical On-site Cooperation Model) application, this work concentrates on expanding the POCoM to more various teaching settings. To do this, 18 cyclic applications (72 teaching classes in total) of the POCoM were divided into (1) the first cycles and the second cycles conducted after the first cycles, (2) classroom teaching and laboratory teaching, and (3) cycles by our research team and cycles by other experts team. The comparison between the two parts were conducted using the improvement rates, the number of KTOP (Korean Teaching Observation Protocol) items which improvement was needed, and the change of these numbers according to teaching sequence. As results, no difference regarding the improvement was observed between classroom and laboratory teachings, and also between the first and the second cycles. When other experts team applied the POCoM, the number of KTOP items which improvement was needed was larger and the improvement rate was lower than those in the cycle by our research team. Nevertheless, these differences were not statistically significant, and also, it was expected that, if other experts team tries to improve science teaching through 6 teachings, the improvement by the other experts would be nearly the same with the improvement by our research team through 4 teachings. In conclusion, it is confirmed that the POCoM can be used in various teaching settings with the almost the same potency. Lastly, the necessity and possibility of the more detailed and qualitative analysis about the POCoM application are discussed.

  • Many soil amendments have been used nowadays to improve physical and chmical condition of turf soil, which might ultimately optimize turfgrass growth in golf courses. This study was carried out to Investigate the effects of new organic soil amendment containing pig excreta 50% and sawdust 50% on growth of zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica L.) and kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) in greenhouse. Three applicable treatments with soil mixtures of 10, 20, and 30% (v/v) animal organic soil amendment (AOSA) with sand, were tested for chemical property, physical property, visual quality and root length of zoysiagrass and Kentucky bluegrass. As results, application of $10{\sim}30%$ AOSA mixtures were proper to grow turfgrass in soil nutrition. Especially, the treatment with 20% AOSA mixtures showed 0.7% in organic matter, which meets to green standard of USGA. Also, 30% AOSA mixtures was 1.1% in organic matter, which might be desirable for zoysiagrass-planted golf courses in Korea. It was turned out that addition of AOSA decreased the hydraulic conductivity in soil physical property Because the sand possess high hydraulic conductivity, it is recommended to combine $10{\sim}30%$ AOSA with sand in order to sustain soil balance. The treatment with $10{\sim}30%$ AOSA noticeably increased visual quality of both zoysiagras and Kentucky bluegrass during 90 days. However, treatments with either 20% or 30% AOSA were effective to develop root length of zoysiagrass but treatments with 20% AOSA were more effective than that of 30% AOSA mixtures to promote root length of Kentucky bluegrass at 60 days. In conclusion, considering all vital factors such as visible quality, root growth, organic matter content, and economical efficiency, was taken, it is recommended that a $20{\sim}30%$ mixture of AOSA with sand is good for the growth of zoysiagrass and 20% mixture for Kentucky bluegrass.

  • Due to the positive effect of forest space for child development, the creation and operation of forest activity space of various organizations is increasing in quantity; however, the research on practical space design and management program is insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the space and management programs of the forest experience centers through the post-occupancy evaluation of teachers and preschoolers participating in forest activities. To do this, we analyzed the selected twelve sites through field survey, class observation, and interviews with forest education specialists, and then surveyed 115 forest education experts and childcare teachers for importance, performance, overall satisfaction, and space preference. In addition, we accessed overall satisfaction and space preference of twenty-nine preschoolers through interviews, photo-simulation, and questionnaires. As a result, the importance and performance of management program area was rated higher than the spatial characteristics area. In terms of group comparison, the group with active structured program rated two areas higher than the groups with free play. Preschoolers with structured programs preferred facility space, but preschoolers with free play preferred nature. Two preschooler groups rated forest activity as satisfactory. Based on the analysis results: 1) The composition of the forest activity space should ensure accessibility, safety, diversity of diversity, water space, connect to the forest road, and secure various terrains, trees, and natural materials; 2) The management program should ensure that forest activity programs have the proportional balance of structural programs and free play; also. management programs should plan for sufficient free playtime and a high share of play in the forest; and 3) Ensure the role and expertise of forestry specialists and run a program to increase the autonomy of preschoolers.
