Estimation of system parameters by vector channel lattice filter (벡터채널 격자필터를 이용한 시스템 파라미터 추정)

  • Resently there have been increasing interests in adaptive identification and control of flexible structures. In this paper, vector channel lattice filters and their applications to parameter identification of flexible structures are studied. Numerical examples are given to show its performace to estimate the natural frequencies of 5-mass system. It is observed that vector channel lattice filter convetges quickly and identifies modal frequencies even when some of them is unobservable for some measurements. Experimental results demonstrated the ability of the lattice filter to identify the natural frequencies and the damping ratios of cantilever beam and pipe.

  • Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (OADM)은 WDM, 즉 파장분할을 이용하여 보다 많은 정보를 보다 빠르게 전송할 수 있는 광통신 시스템에서 가장 중요한 소자 중의 하나이다. WDM (특히, DWDM) 시스템에서는 광신호의 전송 대역이 파장 영역에서 0.8 nm 정도의 매우 좁은 간격으로 배치되기 때문에, 파장 가감을 위한 광필터들은 높은 파장 정확성과 환경적 조건에 대한 안정성을 가져야만 한다. 그러나 광섬유 단주기 격자의 온도 의존성은 일반적으로 0.01 nm/$^{\circ}C$ 정도로 너무 크기 때문에 WDM 시스템에서 응용되기 위해서는 패키징을 통한 온도 보상이 필요하다.   • 광섬유 격자는 WDM 광시스템의 필터뿐만 아니라 센서로도 많은 연구가 되고 있다. 이 경우 필수적인 것이 유효굴절률에 대한 해석이다. 유효굴절률은 광섬유의 코어와 클래딩의 굴절률과 반지름에 따른 수치해석을 통해서도 구할 수 있다. 수치해석과정에서 필수적인 것이 파장에 따른 굴절률을 계산할 수 있는 Sellmeier식이다$^{(1)}$ . 본 연구에서는 광섬유격자 쌍을 이용하여 광섬유의 유효굴절률을 클래딩 모드수에 따라 측정할 수 있는 새로운 방법을 제시한다. (중략)

Fabrication of an Optical Fiber Amplifier Using Long-period Fiber Gratings Formed by Periodically Arrayed Metal Wire (금속선의 주기적 배열로 유도된 장주기 격자를 이용한 이득 평탄화된 광섬유 증폭기 제작)

  • In this study, we have fabricated a gain flattened erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier. Gain flattening filters were realized by the strain-induced long period fiber gratings, which are made of periodically arrayed metal wires. Using the filter of $550{\mu}m$ period, spontaneous emission amplified at C-band wavelength by a 980nm pumping laser was flattened within 1dB of gain ripple. The performance of the simultaneous multi channel amplification was measured using a fabry-perot laser diode. Amplification ratio was above 20dB. This amplifier can be applied to the long distance transmission system based on a wavelength division multiplexing for boosting an attenuated signal.

Characterization of a Wavelength-Tunable Fiber Laser Based on a Polymer Waveguide Bragg Grating Wavelength Filter (폴리머 도파로 브라그 격자를 이용한 단일 파장 가변 광섬유 레이저의 출력 특성 연구)

  • We report the characteristics of a single-wavelength-tunable fiber laser using a polymer waveguide Bragg grating (PWBG) wavelength filter. The output of the laser depends on environmental conditions, such as temperature and polarization states in the laser cavity. Wavelength tuning can be achieved, about 16.29 nm from 1548.24 nm to 1531.95 nm, according to the electric power applied to the PWBG wavelength filter. The achieved efficiency slope is about -0.16 nm/mW. A side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of more than 35 dB can be obtained by adjusting the polarization state in the laser cavity. A stable wavelength-tunable fiber laser can be achieved using the PWBG wavelength filter with a TEC module and a polarization-maintaining fiber.

Color Filter Based on a Sub-Wavelength Patterned Poly-Silicon Grating Fabricated using Laser Interference Lithography (광파장 이하의 주기를 갖는 다결정 실리콘 격자 기반의 컬러필터)

  • A color filter was proposed and demonstrated by incorporating a subwavelength patterned 1-dimensional grating in poly silicon. It was produced by employing the laser interference lithography method, providing much wider effective area compared to the conventional e-beam lithography. A $SiO_2$ layer was introduced on top of the silicon grating layer as a mask for the etching of the silicon, facilitating the etching of the silicon layer. It was theoretically found that the selectivity of the filter was also improved thanks to the oxide layer. The parameters for the designed device include the grating pitch of 450 nm, the grating height of 100 nm and the oxide-layer height of 200 nm. As for the fabricated filter, the spectral pass band corresponded to the blue color centered at 470 nm and the peak transmission was about 40%. Within the effective area of $3{\times}3mm^2$, the variation in the relative transmission efficiency and in the center wavelength was less than 10% and 2 nm respectively. Finally, the influence of the angle of the incident beam upon the transfer characteristics of the device was investigated in terms of the rate of the relative transmission efficiency, which was found to be equivalent to 1.5%/degree.
