  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the health promoting behaviors(HPB) of health-related and health-unrelated department university students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 189 health-related and 204 health-unrelated department university students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. The quality of life and self-esteem showed a significantly positive correlation with HPB, but life stress showed a significantly negative correlation with HPB. The result of multiple regression analysis showed that three variables affected the HPB significantly(p<.001) and made a 27% prediction for health-related department university students and 34% for health-unrelated department university students. It is necessary to investigate the various influencing factors on HPB of university students and research the difference of HPB of health-related and health-unrelated department university students.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between stress symptoms and health-promoting behaviors (HPB) among two residence groups of university students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 313 students living in a dormitory and 281 students not living in a dormitory. Data were collected from October 21 to November 20, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Dormitory residents presented higher HPB scores among both genders. For dormitory residents, smoking and drinking affected the HPB, and for non-dormitory residents, scholastic achievement and health status affected the HPB significantly. HPB had significantly negative correlations with depression, anxiety, and anger for dormitory residents and with cognitive disorganization, depression, and anger for non-dormitory residents. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the significant factors for dormitory students in order of importance were depression, anger, and anxiety, and the variance was 67%. For non-dormitory students, the significant factors were depression and anger with a variance of 63%. The results suggest that it is necessary to develop a suitable HPB program for university students.

  • This study investigated the effects of meaning of life and depression on the health-promoting behaviors of community-dwelling elderly people, as well as the effects of community programs on their depression, meaning of life, and health-promoting behaviors. Collected data were analyzed by ANOVA, paired t-test through SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. The demographic characteristics, depression, meaning of life, and health-promoting behaviors of the participants were analyzed using descriptive statistics that calculated real numbers and percentages. The participating in community programs resulted in a decrease in depression(t=2.379, p=.010) and significant increase in meaning of life(t=2.421, p=.009) and health-promoting behaviors(t=2.316, p=.012) and recognized the importance of community role for healthy old age. Based on this, we propose active participation of the community for the health of elderly people and development of programs suitable for the subjects.

  • This paper describes the relationship and influencing factors among academic stress, university life adaptation, and health promotion behaviors of health college students. Data were collected from October 2017 to May 2018 using a structural questionnaire, which was completed by 223 health college students in D metropolitan city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression using an IBM SPSS 20.0. As a result, the mean scores were as follows: academic stress, 3.02±0.89; university life adaptation, 3.16±0.48; health promotion behavior, 2.14±0.45. Correlation analysis of the variables revealed a negative relationship between academic stress and health promotion behavior and a positive relationship between university life adaptation and health promotion behavior. The factors affecting the health promotion behavior were the economic level, satisfaction with major, academic stress, and university life adaptation, which explained approximately 37.5% of the total. In conclusion, to increase the health promotion behavior of health-related college students, it is necessary to develop programs that reduce academic stress and improve university life adaptation. In addition, systematic efforts to identify the general characteristics of the subjects are needed.

  • The aim of this study is to determine whether the reproductive health promotion program (RHPP) affect the sexual knowledge, sexual attitude, and reproductive health promoting behavior in University students. The students of 108 (mean 20.84 years) were participated in the RHPP, and this program was conducted to 110 min, twice a week for 4 weeks from November 9, 2016 to December 7. We investigated sexual knowledge, attitude, and reproductive health promoting behavior by questionnaire. As the results, the sexual attitude was better than baseline, and significant correlation between the sexual knowledge and the reproductive health promoting behavior (p<0.05). However, no significant changes in outcome measure were observed in the sexual knowledge and reproductive health promoting behavior (p>0.05). We found that the RHPP improves the sexual attitude and correlate between the sexual knowledge and reproductive health promoting behavior. This study will be utilized to develop the education program for the reproductive health promotion of University students.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the cognition-perception factors and oral health promotion behavior of dental hygiene and non-dental hygiene students in an effort to find out factors affecting their oral health promotion behavior. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. In regard to cognition-perception factors of oral health, the dental hygiene students were ahead of the others in self-efficacy, control of oral health and benefits of oral health behavior. The latter felt there were more barriers to their oral health behavior than the former. 2. As to the practice of oral health promotion behavior, that behavior was more prevailing among the dental hygiene students than the others. Both groups restrained themselves from liquor and cigarettes. 3. Concerning the correlation between oral health promotion behavior and related variables, self-efficacy and control of oral health had a significant correlation to oral health promotion behavior. Better self-efficacy and better control of oral health led to better oral health promotion behavior and better practice of its subfactors 1, 2 and 3. 4. As a result of checking the variables affecting oral health promotion behavior and the subfactors of the variables, self-efficacy had the largest impact on factor 1, factor 2, factor 3 and oral health promotion behavior, and factor 2 was under the greatest influence of control of oral health. Based on above-mentioned findings, self-efficacy was identified as the cognition-perception factor that had the largest impact on oral health behavior. Therefore how to boost self-efficacy should be considered when oral health promotion programs are developed, and research efforts should be channeled into finding out in which way self-efficacy could be bolstered in association with each kind of oral health promotion behavior.

The participants were 208 nursing students(freshman/sophomore). Data were collected from April 3 to April 21, 2017 by self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 19.0 program(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The results of this study were as follows: the mean academic stress score was $3.17{\pm}0.55$, ego-resilience was $2.70{\pm}0.38$, and health promoting behaviors was $2.47{\pm}0.32$. There were significant differences in health promoting behaviors based on residence status, satisfaction with major, satisfaction with school life and health status. There was a negative correlation between health promoting behaviors and academic stress(r=-0.36, p=0.000), while there was a positive correlation between health promoting behaviors and ego-resilience(r=0.60, p=0.000). Variables such as ego-resilience, academic stress, satisfaction with school life, residence status, health status and satisfaction with major explained 43.3% of the variance in health promoting behaviors. Based on these results, it is necessaryto develop interventions and programs to reduce academic stress and increase ego-resilience to improve health promotion in nursing students.
