  • This study estimates the performance of steel spirals according to the compressive strength of the concrete. A total of 24 confined concrete cylinders ($150{\times}300mm$) were cast and tested under monotonic concentric compression. The main test parameters were the yield strength of spiral reinforcements and the compressive strength of the concrete. To effectively evaluate the confinement effect according to the yield strength of steel spirals, the external diameter of steel spirals was designed to be same as the diameter of specimen. The experimental results indicated that the performance of confinement of steel spirals increased as the yield strength of spiral reinforcement increased and the compressive strength of the concrete decreased. Furthermore, existing analytical models were used for predicting the stress versus axial strain relationships of specimens tested in this study. It can be concluded that the accuracy of the analytical models deteriorated as the yield strength of steel spirals and the compressive strength of the concrete increased.

  • In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of SFRC(steel fiber reinforced concrete) to investigate the fatigue behavior of SFRC varying with the steel fiber contents and the steel fiber aspect ratios. The three point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In tl1ese tests, relations between the repeated loading cycles and the mid-span deflections, number of repeated loadmg cycles when specimen was fractured were observed. On this basis, the mid-span deflections, the elastic strain energy and inelastic strain energy of SFRC were studied. A S - N curve \vas drawn to present the fatigue strength of SFRC beam. From che test results, by increasing the steel fiber content the energy lost on the permanent deformation decreases and the energy spent on crack growth increases. But in case of SFRC with the same steel fiber content the higher the steel fiber aspect ratio is, the less the elastic strain energy is. According to S - N curve drawn by the regression analysis on the fatugue test results, the fatigue strength with 2,000,000 repeated loading cycles in SFRC with the steel fiber content is 1.0% shows about 70% on the first crack static flexural strength.

  • This paper proposes a method for predicting flexural strength of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced ultra-high strength concrete beams. It includes an experimental test framework and associated numerical analyses. The experimental program includes flexural test results of hybrid steel fiber-reinforced ultra-high strength concrete beams with steel fiber content of 1.5% by volume. Tensile softening characteristics play an important role in the structural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete. Tension softening modeling is carried out by using crack equation based on fictitious crack and inverse analysis in which load-crack mouth opening displacement relationship is considered. The comparison of moment-curvature curves of the numerical analysis results with the test results shows a reasonable agreement. Therefore, the numerical results confirms that good prediction of flexural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high strength concrete beams can be achieved by employing the proposed method.

  • Uniaxial compression tests for ultra-high performance hybrid steel fiber reinforced concrete (UHPC) were performed to evaluate the compressive behavior of UHPC. The UHPC for testing contains hybrid steel fibers with a predetermined ratio using a length of 19 mm and 16 mm straight typed steel fibers. Test parameter was determined as a fiber volume ratio to investigate the effect of fiber volume ratio on the strength and secant modulus of elasticity. Test results showed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of UHPC increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity equations were proposed as function of the compressive strength of unreinforced and fiber reinforced UHPC, respectively. The simplified equations for predicting the mechanical properties of the UHPC were a good agreement with the test data. The proposed equations are expected to be applied to the SFRC and UHPC with steel fibers.

  • Most studies on mechanical properties of concrete with recycled aggregate was focused on the concrete with compressive strength of less than 40 MPa. Therefore, this paper concerns the compressive strength and mechanical properties of concrete with compressive strength of greater than 40 MPa containing recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). The experimental parameters were compressive strength level and replacement ratio of RCA. Compressive strength level was 45 and 60 MPa, and replacement ratio of RCA was 30, 50, 70 and 100%. The results of the test were discussed: compressive strength, elastic modulus, split tensile strength and modulus of rupture. Test results of elastic modulus were compared to the design code predictions. The design code predictions for elastic modulus overestimated the experimental results. However, the design code predictions for modulus of rupture were generally in agreement with the measured values.

  • In thls study, cylindrical concrete specimens wth varlous strength levels were tested to lnves tlgate the fatigue behavlor of high strength concrete. Selected test variables welp cornpresslve strength with 4 levels(26 MIPa, 54 MPa, 82 MPa. 103 MPa) and maximum \tress wlth 4 levels (75% 80%, 85%, 95%). A total of 160 specimens(${\phi}100{\times}200mm$) were cdsted fol the test. l'he fatigue llfe was decreased for the hlgher strength concreate. R model fol S N, relationship con sidering the effect of compressive strength, was proposed. In addition, this model included the stram rate effect whlch was modified for the strength level. It was found that the ~rrecoverable stram of normal strength concretc3 was greater than that of high strength concrete However the strain ~ncrease per cycle of load was great for the highcr strength concrete.

  • Splice sleeves for HD25 and HD32 rebars with yield strength 500 MPa were studied experimentally and analytically. The shapes of sleeve was examined with nonlinear finite element analyses. A total of 18 specimens were tested with test variables of rebar types, sleeve lengths, mortar compressive strengths, and rebar development lengths. Three identical specimens per each variable were tested in order to prevent any test errors. After tests, numerical studies with a nonlinear finite element method were conducted to evaluate the test results. Experimental studies with 18 specimens showed that the sleeves of this study satisfies the code requirement. It was found that the strength of mortar and the bar development length within the sleeves did not affect to the load-carrying capacity of sleeves.

  • Experimental investigation on the structural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams subjected to torsion are presented. Six tests carried out on square beams under torsional moment are presented. The experimental parameters were the volume fraction of the fibers and closed-stirrup ratio. The volume fraction of the fibers was 1.0% and 2.0%. The closed-stirrup ratio was 0, 0.35%, and 0.70%. The test results indicated that ultimate torsional strength increased with increasing fiber volume, and that ultimate torsional strength also increased with increasing the closed-stirrup ratio. In addition, predictive equations for evaluating the ultimate torsional strength of UHPC beams were proposed. The comparison between computed values and the experimentally observed values was shown to validate the proposed analytical equations. It was found that predictions by using proposed equation provides good agreement with test results of UHPC beams.

  • Structural tests were performed to investigate the structural performance of concrete-filled steel tube column using different strength steels in their flange and web with high-strength steel HSA800 and mild steel SM490, respectively. The test parameters included the strength of column flange and infill concrete, and effect of concrete infill. Connection between different grade steels were welded using the electrode appropriate for mild steel and verified its performance. To evaluate the behavior of test specimens, eccentric loading tests were performed and the results were compared with the prediction by current design codes. Axial load and moment carrying capacity of test specimens increased with the yield strength of compression flange and weld fracture occurred after the specimen shows full strength. The prediction result for axial load-bending moment relationship and effective flexural stiffness gave good agreement with the test result.
