A Study on the Major Perception of Nursing Freshmen (간호학과 신입생의 전공 인식에 관한 연구)

  • This study was attempted to provide basic data for the development of the nursing major curriculum and the admission strategy for attracting new students by identifying the perception of the nursing major among freshmen in the nursing department. Participants in this study were 40 freshmen who agreed to participate in the study among freshmen in the department of nursing who completed self-exploration, a required liberal arts course for freshmen opened in the first semester of 2021. Data collection was a study diary written by participants after 15 weeks of class, and the traditional content analysis method suggested by Heieh and Shannon was applied to data analysis. As a result of the study, three themes were derived: 'motivation for entering the nursing major', 'value of the nursing major', and 'obstacles to the nursing major'. Therefore, colleges and departments need to strengthen their entrance examination strategies to develop and conduct field trip programs for experiential departments linked to middle and high schools and It is necessary to solve the difficulties in taking major courses by providing subject and extracurricular programs targeting students who lack basic learning ability.

Influence of Interpersonal Ability on College Life Adjustment in Freshman in Nursing College: Mediation Effect of Empathy Ability (간호대학 신입생의 대인관계 능력이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향: 공감 능력의 매개효과)

  • This study is a descriptive research study aimed at confirming the mediating effect of empathy ability in the relationship between interpersonal ability and adjustment to college life for freshman in nursing college. The study subjects were 179 freshman from the nursing department of four universities. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from June 11 to June 18, 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the interpersonal ability and empathy ability of the nursing college freshman were factors influencing the adjustment to college life, and that the empathy ability had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the interpersonal ability and the adjustment to college life. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop and apply curriculum and extra-curricular programs that can enhance students' empathy ability as a way to improve the adjustment to college life in the freshman. Therefore, repeated studies including various variables related to college life adjustmente of freshmen in nursing colleges are needed in the future.

The Influence of Nursing Image, Job Value on Nursing Professionalism of First Year Nursing Students (간호학과 신입생의 간호사이미지, 직업가치관이 간호전문직관에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the influence of nurse image, job value on the nursing professionalism of first year nursing students. Data were collected from May 7 to May 14, 2018 for 306 first year nursing students. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. The average degree of nursing image at 4.12, job value score of 3.12, and nursing professionalism score of 3.98. Nursing professionalism was positively correlated with the nursing image(r=.823, p<.001) and job value(r=.492, p<.001). The significant variables explaining nursing image(${\beta}=.760$, p=.000) and job value(${\beta}=.134$, p=.000) These factors explained 69% of nursing professionalism. It is necessary to provide education that consider the nursing image, job value of nursing students to help them establish an acceptable view of nursing professionalism.

Subjectivity on Problem Based Learning(PBL) Experience of Freshmen in Nursing students (간호학과 신입생의 문제중심학습(PBL)의 경험에 관한 주관성연구)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the types of subjectivity on PBL experience of freshmen in nursing students. Method: This study is exploratory research through Q methodology. From 102 Q populations, we selected 31 Q sorting was done by 25 of P sample. When the Q sorting is completed on nine point scale, we interviewed participants and documented their responses. The data was analyzed by using QUNAL program. Result: The result of the study showed 4 types. Four factors provided an explanation for 71.6% of total variances, and these four factors were analyzed and categorized as four types. We named type 1 as [positive pressure], type 2 as [relational friendly], type 3 as [creative benefit], type 4 as [paticipatory development]. Conclusion: In this study, PBL was valuable experience and recognized as a variety of perspectives for freshmen in nursing students. These findings indicate we suggest that planning of strategy for efficient operation on PBL was reflected above results.

The Effects of Nursing Introduction Content on Career Attitude Maturity and Self-Efficacy of first year students (간호입문교육 콘텐츠가 신입생의 진로태도성숙과 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was to develop a introduction program contents for first year nursing students and to verify the effectiveness of the program contents. The effects of introduction program contents for first year nursing students is to identify a career attitude maturity and self-efficacy. The study used a One Group Pre-post Test Design and the surveys were carried out form 5, March to 26, March, 2012. The participants were 129 students of nursing in K university. The data were obtained via questionnaires survey before and after taking the course. The collected data were analyzed by paired t-test using SPSS 15. As a result in analyzing the effect of introduction program contents on career attitude maturity and self-efficacy for first year nursing students, introduction program contents was appeared to influence the self-efficacy. The scores of self-efficacy(t=2.36, p=.002) showed statistically significant improvement after the education. Also there was significant increase in career attitude maturity(t=2.92, p=.004) after the education. The results of this study were the positive effects of introduction program contents on first nursing students' career attitude maturity and self-efficacy. These findings suggest that introduction program contents as a subject would be an efficient way for self-efficacy and career attitude maturity of first year nursing students. and I recommend that various professor teaching method and nursing education contents development with utilizing ICT.

A study on the effect of emotional intelligence on adjustment to college life in first year nursing college students (간호학과 신입생의 정서지능이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and adjustment of college life as well as the effect of emotional intelligence on adjustment of college life in first year nursing college students. The participants were 104 first year nursing college students. Data was collected from June 11 to 13, 2012 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. The mean scores for emotional intelligence 3.59 and adjustment of college life 3.01 were above average. A significant and positive correlation was found between emotional intelligence and adjustment of college life. The emotional intelligence predicted adjustment of college life. The strongest predictor on adjustment of college life was emotional recognition and next predictors were in order of empathy and emotional expression among the sub-factors of emotional intelligence. The results of this study suggest that it needs to develop the program for improving the emotional intelligence for better adjustment of college life in college nursing students.

Influencing Factors on Career Preparation Behavior of Nursing Freshmen (간호학과 신입생의 진로 준비 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to provide basic data for the development of educational methods and programs to raise the level of career preparation behaviors of nursing college freshmen by identifying the effects of major satisfaction, time management, and self-efficacy on career preparation behaviors. Data collection was carried out for convenience from October 18 to October 31, 2021, targeting 255 freshmen students of the nursing department at universities located in J and G metropolitan cities. The collected data were analyzed by real number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 20.0 program. Career preparation behavior showed a positive correlation with major satisfaction, time management, and self-efficacy. As a factor influencing career preparation behavior, time management behavior was the most influential factor, and the total explanatory power was 18.8%. As a result of this study, it is necessary to develop and provide a time management program for nursing students to develop time management skills from freshman.

The Influence of Growth Mindset and Professor Support on School Life Adjustment of Nursing College Freshman in the Era of COVID-19 (코로나19 시대 간호대학 신입생의 성장마인드셋과 교수지지가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the relationship between growth mindset, professor support and school life adjustment of nursing college freshman in the era of COVID-19, and to understand the effect on school life adjustment. The subjects of this study were 248 nursing college freshman located in G Metropolitan City, and data collection was conducted from October 4 to October 31, 2022. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 28.0 program. As a result of the study, school life adjustment had a significant positive correlation with growth mindset(r=.51, p<.000) and professor support(r=.54, p<.000). Factors affectiong school life adjustment of nursing college freshman were professor support(β=.38, p<.001), subjects who answered very satisfied in major satisfaction(β=.31, p<.001), growth mindset(β=.26, p<.001), subjects who answered satisfied in major satisfaction(β=.16, p=.015), and female students(β=.14, p=.005), which explained 44.0% of variance. The results of this study will be usefully used to develop strategies to improve the school life adjustment of nursing college freshman. In the future, a follow-up study that can expand the subjects and explain the school life adjustment of nursing college freshman is suggested.

Interpersonal Relationship Anxiety and College Adjustment according to Communication Style of Nursing Freshmen (간호대학 신입생의 의사소통 스타일에 따른 대인관계불안과 대학생활적응)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the types of subjectivity on communication styles of nursing freshmen by using the Q Methodology, and examine interpersonal relationship anxiety and college adjustment according to communication styles. Participants were 89 nursing freshmen, and data were collected from 7. March to 23. September 2016. Data were analyzed by using PC-QUANL program for communication styles, and using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test with SPSS windows version 24.0 program for interpersonal relationship anxiety and college adjustment according to communication styles. As a result, 4 communication styles were identified, 'Considerate-empathetic', 'Tense-passive', 'Vulnerable-easily distracted', and 'Facilitative-leading'. 'Tense-passive', 'Vulnerable-easily distracted' showed significantly higher interpersonal relationship anxiety than 'Considerate -empathetic'. 'Considerate-empathetic' showed significantly higher college adjustment than 'Vulnerable-easily distracted'. The result of this study is expected to be used for developing communication educational programs and provide a foundation to improve college adjustment of nursing freshmen.

Convergence effects of psychological capital on learning satisfaction of nursing freshmen (간호학과 신입생의 심리자본이 학습만족에 미치는 융합적 영향)

  • The purpose of this descriptive research is to get basic data for educational program after investigating convergent effect of psychological capital on learning satisfaction of nursing freshmen. Using SPSS 21, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression of the 164 collected data were carried out. The mean scores of psychological capital and learning satisfaction were above the middle, and the 'hope' was the highest among subdomains of psychological capital. There was a positive correlation between psychological capital and learning satisfaction(r=.665, p<.001). School performance(${\beta}=.311$), school life satisfaction(${\beta}=.191$) and psychological capital(${\beta}=.522$) were the significant factors of learning satisfaction in hierarchical multiple regression(F=37.651, p=.004). The explanatory rate of variables on learning satisfaction was 57.4%. It is needed applying these results in developing learning satisfaction programs, but it isn't appropriate to generalize these results conducted on nursing freshmen in one university.
