  • Parameter identification is studied in viscoelastic rods by solving an inverse problem numerically. The material properties of the rod, which appear in the constitutive relations, are recovered by optimizing an objective function constructed from reference strain data. The resulting inverse algorithm consists of an optimization algorithm coupled with a corresponding direct algorithm that computes the strain fields given a set of material properties. Numerical results are presented for two model inverse problems; (i)the effect of noise in the reference strain fields (ii) the effect of minimal reference data in space and/or time data.

  • Aussel et al. [1] introduced the notion of inverse quasi-variational inequalities (IQVI) by combining quasi-variational inequalities and inverse variational inequalities. Discussions are made in a finite dimensional Euclidean space. In this note, we develop an infinite dimensional version of IQVI by investigating some basic properties of the regularized gap function of IQVI in a Banach space.

  • Let h ≥ 2 and A = {a0, a1, …, ak-1} be a finite set of integers. It is well-known that |hA| = hk - h + 1 if and only if A is a k-term arithmetic progression. In this paper, we give some nontrivial inverse results of the sets A with some extremal the cardinalities of hA.

  • Comparative study was carried out for an acoustic iterative inverse method to estimate bubble size distributions in water. Conventional bubble sizing methods consider only sound attenuation for sizing. Choi and Yoon [IEEE, 26(1), 125-130 (2001)] reported an acoustic iterative inverse method, which extracts the sound speed component from the measured sound attenuation. It can more accurately estimate the bubble size distributions in water than do the conventional methods. The estimation results of acoustic iterative inverse method were compared with other experimental data. The experimental data show good agreement with the estimation from the acoustic iterative inverse method. This iterative technique can be utilized for bubble sizing in the ocean.

  • This paper presents an algorithm for generating inverse element over finite fields $GF(3^m)$, and constructing method of inverse element generator based on inverse element generating algorithm. The method need to compute inverse of an element eve. $GF(3^m)$ which corresponds to a polynomial eve. $GF(3^m)$ with order less than equal to m-1. Here, the computation is based on multiplication, square and cube method derived from the mathematics properties over finite fields.

  • This paper suggests an inverse optimal PID control design method for the trajectory tracking case of mechanical systems. Also, simple coarse/fine performance tuning laws are suggested based on the analysis for performance limitation of inverse optimal PID controller. Experimental results for a robot manipulator show the validity of our analysis for the performance tuning methods.

  • For pseudo-free and recurrent self-similar groups, we show that continuous orbit equivalence of inverse semigroup partial actions implies continuous orbit equivalence of group actions. Conversely, if group actions are continuous orbit equivalent, and the induced homeomorphism commutes with the shift maps on their groupoids, we obtain continuous orbit equivalence of inverse semigroup partial actions.
