A Study on the Empathy Competence of Adolescents Using Empathic Reading Based on Online Remote Classes (비대면 온라인 원격수업 기반의 공감독서를 활용한 청소년의 공감역량에 관한 연구)

  • The study is aimed at designing an effective edutech platform based on online remote classes, and clarifying the effect of empathy competence of youths through the operation linked with the empathic reading program focusing on reading. To this end, after constructing the environment for education and drawing a class model based on components of edutech for remote classes on the basis of previous studies and elaborating the empathic reading education program, this study has been conducted for one semester for 107 students in 4 classes in their 1st grade at S middle school, Gyeonggi-do in order to apply them to fields. As a result of the study, the empathy reading program that a remote class model was applied has shown a meaningful difference among groups in cognitive empathy and emotional empathy, and it was found that there was a statistically meaningful difference between the two groups in total scores. Besides, the effect and meaning of adolescents' empathy competence have been verified through the remote empathy reading education and the empirical analysis, and the direction to develop the empathy reading program has been suggested for a solution to settle differences in students' learning due to COVID-19.

  • This study takes aim at finding how effective the usage of 'Read to Dogs' is for self-respect and reading improvement of elementary school students. For this, this study was compared and analyzed with pretest and posttest using 'tree pictures' of HTP and 'family pictures with motion' of KFD through performing, surveying, and art-therapy treatments. The result of this study showed that reading program using a reading -assistance- dog has a good effect on self-respect of children with reading inactivity. Also, this result will be used as useful information in developing and operating programs for children with reading inactivity in libraries and schools.

  • Sejong City Library information services and programs proposed in this study are proposed by combining cases of local representative libraries and overseas libraries. As a feature of the proposal, first, various information services that can be provided by the Sejong City Library are proposed by area, by user, by data type, by media, by partner institution, etc. Second, by reinforcing user programs for each life cycle, various reading programs by age and interest, such as reading discussion, reading experience, and reading events, are provided. Reinforce user-based programs that reflect the characteristics of Sejong City's population, such as adult, child, and family programs. Third, secure and utilize maker space space. Fourth, the reading program developed by the Sejong City Library is promoted and shared in cooperation with local libraries. Fifth, induce participation of local residents in Sejong City, volunteer activities and talent donation. Sixth, propose library information services using library websites and social media, and develop channels for mutual cooperation with users.

  • The research has provided elementary and junior high school students at Children's Center in Incheon district and analyzed its effective factors in both educational and operational aspects. The educational factors in reading discussion include reading, writing, presenting, listening, and rethinking. In the result, the influential factors are as follows: the respondents' emotional intelligence, the level of reading completion, the level of sympathy with class participants, and the level of advance preference on reading. There are additional factors that have influences on the result, including suitability of topics, capabilities of leaders, selection of books, and combination of basic educational training, like speaking and writing.

  • This study explores the effectiveness and applications of event collection programs, which are integrated programs with event experience and collection experience as a cooperation model that combines school education and library resources as course-related materials. For the purpose, a triangulated analysis with both quantitative and qualitative data was conducted. As a result, This study examined an event collection program's effectiveness which were positive effects on the participated students' reading and perceptions on the roles of their school libraries. The event collection supported the students to self-construct their knowledge by exploring information with the provision of a collection with various materials on a topic, which would be hardly provided within the traditional library subject classification, and that the event collection program could be a useful tool for self-directed reading due to its promotion of interaction, sharing, and participation among materials and the participated students by functional factors of experiential marketing.

The Reading Promotion Campaigns for Children of Public Libraries in Other Countries (공공도서관의 어린이 독서진흥활동 - 다른 나라 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of several reading promotion campaigns for children carried out by public libraries in other countries. "Listen Out! - The Stuttgart Reading Project" in Germany, "Chatterbooks" in the U.K., "Born to Read, Read to Bond" in Singapore and "Grandparents and Books(GAB)" in the U.S.A. are examined. While the first three campaigns started in the 2000s, GAB has been carried out by Los Angeles Public Library since 1989. The characteristics of these campaigns are as follow: First, reading books with adults is emphasized. Second, it is important to get some support and sponsor from organigations and individuals in the community. Third, various media, program and activities related to books are used to promote interests in reading. Fourth, discussion and reading are equally emphasized. Fifth, the geographical boundaries of reading campaigns can be extended in the global community.

The Effect of Enneagram's Personalized Reading Instruction by Personality Types on Emotional Intelligence and Vocational Maturity of Adolescents (에니어그램 성격유형별 맞춤 독서지도가 청소년의 정서지능과 진로성숙에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a personalized reading instruction program with customized book selection for adolescents based on their personalities on their emotional intelligence and vocational maturity. The Enneagram personality test was utilized for selecting books based on the students' personalities and the effect of the reading instruction program was assessed using pre- and post-tests. The findings of the study revealed that the personalized reading instruction program was effective in improving emotional intelligence and vocational maturity for students with Ennneagram personality type 6. In addition, a qualitative analysis was conducted to investigate the participants' satisfaction level and their personal opinions. For future studies, independent research with a larger population and appropriate reading time based on each Enneagram personality type is suggested.

  • This study aims to analyzed the treatment factors in the reading activities in order to examine the possibility for such factors to applied to the actual life of the old, and sought for the utilization and direction of the reading program that is presented as the treatment and prevention of the emotional problems of the old people. Considering such circumstances, involving in reading activities improves the quality of the old people's life by meeting their internal desire by themselves and giving the meaning to their life with creativity. In addition, the reading activities helps the old people to express in-depth conflicts, emotion, desire and thinking that they are routinely experiencing, thus leading to the treatment of their agony, trauma, and pain. In such sense, it is very meaningful for the elderly to be joined in any reading activities.

  • This study was performed in order to to suggest the library service direction and program provision method for single-person households in the Seoul Public Library. by analyzing the current status of the operation of public services and library services for domestic and foreign single-person households and the results of the survey on perception of library users and experts. As a result, the suggested library service direction for single-person households was proposed to secure and provide information resources closely related to the lives of single-person households, and establish a support center in charge of services to utilize human resources efficiently with local libraries, and create a user-centered facility infrastructure including single-person households away from the material-oriented library, provide regional specifications and customised services based on the characteristics and distribution of single-person households. In addition, the reading culture program for single-person households believes that social activities support for vulnerable single-person households, social ties, care, volunteer work, leisure and cultural activities are more necessary than anything else, and proposed specialized library services and programs for young, middle-aged, and female single-person households.
