Photoelectrochemical performances of ZnO electrodes are enhanced by coupling with cobalt-based catalyst (CoPi) in phosphate electrolyte (pH 7). For this study, hexagonal pillar-shaped ZnO nanorods are grown on ZnO electrodes through a chemical bath deposition, onto which CoPi is deposited with different photodeposition times (10-30 min). A scanning electron microscopic study indicates that CoPi deposition does not induce any change of ZnO morphology and an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopic analysis shows that inorganic phosphate ions (Pi) exist on ZnO surface. Bare ZnO electrodes generate the current of ca. $0.36mA/cm^2$ at a bias potential of 0.5 V vs. SCE, whereas ZnO/CoPi (deposited for 10 min) has ca. 50%-enhanced current ($0.54mW/cm^2$) under irradiation of AM 1.5G-light ($400mW/cm^2$). The excess loading of CoPi on ZnO results in decrease of photocurrents as compared to bare ZnO likely due to limited electrolyte access to ZnO and/or CoPi-mediated recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. The primary role of CoPi is speculated to trap the photogenerated holes and thereby oxidize water into molecular oxygen via an intervalency cycle among Co(II), Co(III), and Co(IV).

$Zn_2TiO_4$, using an anatase form of $TiO_2$ on zinc crystalline glaze, was shown as effective nuclear agent. Thus the effects on glaze were studied with synthesized $Zn_2TiO_4$ at low temperature. First, the chromophore elements were employed in synthesized $Zn_2TiO_4$ then add them in the zinc crystalline glaze. Crystal creation and development of color by $Zn_2TiO_4$ addition on the zinc crystalline glaze were more effective. Addition of $Zn_2TiO_4$, which is developed in low range temperature, is effected as zinc crystalline nuclear in the willemite glaze. When 5 wt% of synthesized $Zn_2TiO_4$ was added to the willemite glaze, nuclear creation increases and steadily retains. Therefore addition of respectively doped $Zn_2TiO_4$ with CoO, NiO, and CuO would increase doped effects in the glaze, various color willemite crystal were obtained.
The tetradentate schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)-m-phenylenediimine has been prepared from salicylaldehyde and m-phenylenediamine by Duff-reaction. The schiff base ligand has been reacted with Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Zn(II) to form new complexes; Cu(II)$[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O, Ni(II)[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O, Co(III)[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}2H_2O and Zn(II)2[C_{20}H_{14}O_2N_2]{\cdot}4H_2O$. It seems to be that the Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes have hexacoordinated configuration with the schiff base and two molecules of water, while Zn(II) complex has tetracoordinated configuration with the schiff base and four molecules of water. The mole ratio of tetradentate schiff base ligand to Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) are 1:1 but to Zn(II) is 1:2. These complexes have been identified by visible spectra, infrared spectra, T.G.A. and elemental analysis.
Y-type hexagonal ferrites$(Ba_{2}Me_{2}Fe_{12}O_{22}:Me=transition metal)$ have promising electromagnetic properties in GHz range. Co and Zn are good candidates for the transition metal. To understand their role on the properties, it is thus necessary to study the ion(s) distribution in that complex Y-type hexagonal ferrite structure. The authors report Mossbauer spectroscopic results from very reliable samples, which has been extensively characterized by chemical analysis, Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns, and magnetic property measurements. Analyzing two samples, $Co_{2}Y$ and $Co_{1.6}Zn_{0.4}Y$, conclusions are made as follow: (1) Co ions prefer the tetrahedral interstitial sites in the S-block $(6c_{IV})$ and the octahedral sites $(18h_{VI})$ at the interface of S- and T-block. (2) Partial substitution of Co with Zn (within the experimental range) does not disturb the Fe distribution.

This study focuses on the effects of doping $Zn_2BiVO_6$ and $Co_3O_4$ on the sintering and electrical properties of ZnO; where, ZZ consists of 0.5 mol% $Zn_2BiVO_6$ in ZnO, and ZZCo consists of 1/3 mol% $Co_3O_4$ in ZZ. As ZnO was sintered at about $800^{\circ}C$, the liquid phases, which are composed of $Zn_2BiVO_6$ and $Zn_2BiVO_6$-rich phases, were found to be segregated at the grain boundaries of sintered ZZ and ZZCo, respectively, which demonstrates that $V_o^{\cdot}$(0.33~0.36 eV) are formed as dominant defects according to the analysis of admittance spectroscopy. As $Co_3O_4$ is doped to ZZ, the resistivity of ZnO decreases to ~38%, while donor density ($N_d$), interface state density ($N_t$), and barrier height (${\Phi}_b$) increase twice higher than those of ZZ, according to C-V characteristics. This result harbingers that ZZCo and its derivative compositions will open the gate for ZnO to be applied as more progressive varistors in the future, as well as the advantageous opportunity of manufacturing ZnO chip varistors at lower sintering temperatures below $900^{\circ}C$.
Cobalt-, zinc-, and nickel-zinc-substituted nano-size manganese ferrite powders, $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$, were fabricated using a sol-gel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were subsequently studied. The $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at temperatures above 523 K exhibited a spinel structure, and the particle size increased as the annealing temperature increased. All ferrites annealed at 773 K showed a single spinel structure, and the lattice constants and particle size decreased with the substitution of Co, Zn, and Ni-Zn. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 523 K only showed a doublet due to its superparamagnetic phase, and the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powders annealed at 773 K could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. However, the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 773 K consisted of two Zeeman sextets and one quadrupole doublet due to its ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior. The area ratio of the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra could be used to determine the cation distribution equation, and we also explained the variation in the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ parameters by using this cation distribution equation, the superexchange interaction and the particle size. Relative to pure $MnFe_2O_4$, the saturation magnetizations and coercivities were larger in $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and smaller in $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$. These variations could be explained using the site distribution equations, particle sizes and magnetic moments of the substituted ions.

The water-splitting process by the metal oxides using solar heat is one of the hydrogen production method. The hydrogen production process using the metal oxides (NiFe2O4/NiAl2O4,CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4, CoMnNiFerrite, CoMnSnFerrite, CoMnZnFerrite, CoSnZnFerrite) was carried out by two steps. The first step was carried out by the CH4-reduction to increase activation of metal oxides at operation temperature. And then, it was carried out the water-splitting reaction using the water at operation temperature for the second step. Hydrogen was produced in this step. The production rates of H2 were 110, 160, 72, 29, 17, $21m{\ell}/hr{\cdot}g-_{Metal\;Oxide}$ for NiFe2O4/NiAl2O4, CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4, CoMnNiFerrite, CoMnSnFerrite, CoMnZnFerrite, CoSnZnFerrite respectively in the second step. CoFe2O4/CoAl2O4 had higher H2 production rate than the other metal oxides.
We have investigated the temperature dependence of CO gas sensitivity for ZnO and ZnO-CuO thick films at 200 ppm CO gas, where those films were prepared by thermal transformation. The ZnO thick film shows the maximum sensitivity of -4 at >$300^{\circ}C$ On the other hand, ZnO-CuO(more than 1mol%) thick film shows that the maximum sensitivity reduced to less than 1.5. The decrease in sensitivity of CO gas with increasing the CuO contents is due to the decrease of the oxygen absorption in thick films.
The Zn, Co and Ni substituted manganese ferrite powders, $Mn_{1-x}$(Zn, Co, Ni)$_xFe_2O_4$, were fabricated by the solgel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were studied. The Zn substituted manganese ferrite, $Zn_{0.2}Mn_{0.8}Fe_2O_4$, had a single spinel structure above $400^{\circ}C$, and the size of the particles of the ferrite powder increased when the annealing temperature was increased. Above $500^{\circ}C$, all the $Mn_{1-x}$(Zn, Co, Ni)$_xFe_2O_4$ ferrite had a single spinel structure and the lattice constants decreased with an increasing substitution of Zn, Co, and Ni in $Mn_{1-x}$(Zn, Co, Ni)$_xFe_2O_4$. The Mossbauer spectra of $Mn_{1-x}Zn_xFe_2O_4$ (0.0$\leq$x$\leq$0.4) could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. For x = 0.6 and 0.8 they showed two Zeeman sextets and a single quadrupole doublet, which indicated they were ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic. And for x = 1.0 spectrum showed a doublet due to a paramagnetic phase. For the Co and Ni substituted manganese ferrite powders, all the Mossbauer spectra could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. The variation of the Mossbauer parameters are also discussed with substituted Zn, Co and Ni ions. The increment of the saturation magnetization up to x = 0.6 in $Mn_{1-x}Co_xFe_2O_4$ could be qualitatively explained using the site distribution and the spin magnetic moment of substituted ions. The saturation magnetization and coercivity of the $Mn_{1-x}$(Zn, Co, Ni)$_xFe_2O_4$ (x = 0.4) ferrite powders were also compared with pure $MnFe_2O_4$.
The characteristics of the complex permeability of ${(Ni_{x}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.8-x}O)}_{1-w}{(Fe_{2}O_{3})}_{1+w}$ with various Ni and $Co_{3}O_{4}$ contents were investigated in this work. It is found that the NiCuZn ferrites with $x{\geq}0.6$ have a relatively small peak width of the imaginary part of permeability $\mu$". The resonance frequency is increased as Ni content becomes higher, where the loss is low. The $\mu$" value decreases with increasing FezO, deficiency, but the resonance frequency($f_{\mu"max}$) is only slightly affected by $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ deficiency. In case of $Co_{3}O_{4}$ addition to the NiCuZn ferrites, the $f_{\mu"max}$ increases since the initial permeability decreases with the amount of $Co_{3}O_{4}$. It is concluded that the Ni content in the NiCuZn ferrite is a dominant factor for the total loss of these spinel ferrites.
