  • In this paper, I propose a linear time algorithm devised to produce exact solution to NP-complete maximum clique problem. The proposed algorithm firstly, from a given graph G=(V,E), sets vertex $v_i$ of the maximum degree ${\Delta}(G)$ as clique's major vertex. It then selects vertex $v_j$ of ${\Delta}(G)$ among vertices $N_G(v_i)$ that are adjacent to $v_i$, only to determine $N_G(v_i){\cap}N_G(v_j)$ as candidate cliques w and $v_k$. Next it obtains $w=w{\cap}N_G(v_k)$ by sorting $d_G(v_k)$ in the descending order. Lastly, the algorithm executes the same procedure on $G{\backslash}w$ graph to compare newly attained cliques to previously attained cliques so as to choose the lower. With this simple method, multiple independent cliques would also be attainable. When applied to various regular and irregular graphs, the algorithm proposed in this paper has obtained exact solutions to all the given graphs linear time O(n).

  • With pot-grown 4-year-old 'Fuyu' persimmon trees, this study evaluated the effect of different nitrogen (N) rates during summer on fruit characteristics, changes of leaf nutrients after harvest, reserve accumulation, and early growth the following year. A total of 0, 36 g N in June, and 72 g N in June and July was fertigated to each tree using urea solution. All the fruits were harvested on Nov. 3. Although not significant, fruits were larger for the 36 g and 72 g N than the 0 g N. Fruits for the 0 g N, having lower N concentration, were softer and had a better coloration and higher soluble solids, indicating that they matured earlier. SPAD value on Nov. 3 was 19.2 for the 0 g N and 54.9 for the 72 g N, and then the values linearly decreased in all the treatments by Nov. 14, exhibiting rapid leaf senescence. Specific leaf weight, being the lowest for the 0 g N, also gradually decreased during this period. Increasing N level significantly increased cross-sectional area of the trunk. Leaf N concentration on Nov. 3 was 0.87% for the 0 g N, whereas it was 1.18 and 1.52% for the 36 g and 72 g N, respectively. The N fertigation tended to increase leaf concentrations of soluble sugars, starch, and amino acids. Contents of N, P, K, soluble sugars, starch, and amino acids per unit leaf area gradually decreased in all the treatments during the 11 days after harvest, and the extent of the decrease was the lowest for the 0 g N. On the other hand, those of Ca, Mg, and protein did not consistently change during this period. The N fertigation resulted in higher concentrations of N in dormant shoots on Nov. 14, and although not great, it also increased soluble sugars, starch, amino acids, and protein. Clear differences were found in number of flower buds per one-year-old branch and total shoot length per tree the following year. The 72 g N trees had 5.6-fold more flower buds and 1.9-fold more shoot length, compared with those of 0 g N trees. However, it was noted that tree growth the following year was not significantly different between the 36 g and 72 g N the previous year. It was concluded that N rate during summer should be adjusted with considering the changes of fruit maturation, mobilization of leaf nutrients, and reserve accumulation.

  • Effects of nitrogen addition on the growth of Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria (Leguminosae) in the waste landfill site was investigated. Nitrogen fertilization in the nitrogen poor soils of waste landfill may influence the growth of nitrogen fixing plants beneficially or detrimentally. When I. pseudo-tinctoria was fertilized with three different levels of nitrogen, the coverage of plants treated with 46 g N/$m^2$ and 460 g N/$m^2$ was significantly less than that of plants treated with 23 g N/$m^2$. The growth rates of plant height treated with 46 g N/$m^2$ and 460 g N/$m^2$ were significantly less than those of plants treated with 23 g N/$m^2$. The growth rates of plant diameter treated with 46 g N/$m^2$ and 460 g N/$m^2$ were significantly less than those of plants treated with 23 g N/$m^2$. Dry weights of whole plants in control sites were higher than those of all the others nitrogen treatment sites. Nodule numbers were higher in control plants than those of plants in all the other nitrogen treatment sites. It is suggested that nitrogen fertilizer addition over 23 g N/$m^2$ affect the growth of some nitrogen fixing plants, such as I. pseudo-tinctoria, negatively.

  • Let n be any positive integer and ${\mathbb{Z}}_n=\{0,1,{\cdots},n-1\}$ be the ring of integers modulo n. Let $X_n$ be the set of all nonzero, nonunits of ${\mathbb{Z}}_n$, and $G_n$ be the group of all units of ${\mathbb{Z}}_n$. In this paper, by investigating the regular action on $X_n$ by $G_n$, the following are proved : (1) The number of orbits under the regular action (resp. the number of annihilators in $X_n$) is equal to the number of all divisors (${\neq}1$, n) of n; (2) For any positive integer n, ${\sum}_{g{\in}G_n}\;g{\equiv}0$ (mod n); (3) For any orbit o(x) ($x{\in}X_n$) with ${\mid}o(x){\mid}{\geq}2$, ${\sum}_{y{\in}o(x)}\;y{\equiv}0$ (mod n).

  • For a fibration (E,B,p) with fiber F and a fiber map f, we show that if the inclusion $i : F \to E$ has a left homotopy inverse, then $G^f_n(E,F)$ is isomorphic to $G^f_n(F,E) \oplus \pi_n(B)$. In particular, by taking f as the identity map on E we have $G_n(E,F)$ is isomorphic to $G_n(F) \oplus \pi_n(B)$.

  • Chung and et al. ([2].1991) introduced a new concept of a manifold, denoted by $^{\ast}g-SEX_n$, in Einstein's n-dimensional $^{\ast}g$-unified field theory. The manifold $^{\ast}g-SEX_n$ is a generalized n-dimensional Riemannian manifold on which the differential geometric structure is imposed by the unified field tensor $^{\ast}g^{\lambda \nu}$ through the SE-connection which is both Einstein and semi-symmetric. In this paper, they proved a necessary and sufficient condition for the unique existence of SE-connection and sufficient condition for the unique existence of SE-connection and presented a beautiful and surveyable tensorial representation of the SE-connection in terms of the tensor $^{\ast}g^{\lambda \nu}$. Recently, Chung and et al.([3],1998) obtained a concise tensorial representation of SE-curvature tensor defined by the SE-connection of $^{\ast}g-SEX_n$ and proved deveral identities involving it. This paper is a direct continuations of [3]. In this paper we derive surveyable tensorial representations of constracted curvature tensors of $^{\ast}g-SEX_n$ and prove several generalized identities involving them. In particular, the first variation of the generalized Bianchi's identity in $^{\ast}g-SEX_n$, proved in theorem (2.10a), has a great deal of useful physical applications.

  • BACKGROUND: Nitrogen (N) is an important element for turfgrass (Zoysia matrella) growth; however, standard N application rate for turfgrass is not established yet. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of N application rates on the growth and quality of turfgrass for establishment of standard N application rate. METHODS AND RESULTS: Treatments were as follows; control (0 N g/m2/month), 1N (1 N g/m2/month), 2N(2 N g/m2/month), 3N (3 N g/m2/month), 4N (4 N g/m2/month), and 5N (5 N g/m2/month). N application improved visual turfgrass quality. Compared with the control, clipping yield of all N treatments increased by 90~194%. The grass shoot weight of 3N, 4N, and 5N treatments increased by 52%, 43%, and 111%, respectively, and the stolon weight of 4N and 5N treatments increased by 412% and 201%, respectively, compared to the control. The N uptake amount and N recovery rate were estimated to be 4.10~6.28 g/m2 and 14~58%, respectively. CONCLUSION(S): These results indicate that considering visual quality, clipping yield, N uptake amount, and N recovery, the application rate of 2~3 N g/m2/month was suggested to be suitable for Z. matrella production.

  • We have previously reported that anti-glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) serum raised against native G6PD (nG6PD) enzyme recognized nG6PD antigen poorly in competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (Kim, 1997). In the present study, we investigated whether anti-G6PD serum raised against nG6PD can react with denatured G6PD effectively in competitive ELISA. We used partially active G6PD (paG6PD) by repeated freeze-thawing or SDS-denatured G6PD (SDS-G6PD) as both immobilized and soluble antigens, and anti-G6PD serum raised against nG6PD for competitive ELISA. The polystyrene cuvettes coated with either paG6PD or SDS-G6PD were challenged with a mixture of a limiting amount of anti-G6PD serum and various doses of paG6PD or SDS-G6PD as competitors, followed by incubation with alkaline phosphatase-anti-IgG conjugate. The competitive ELISA with paG6PD or SDS-G6PD antigen exhibited the sigmoidal dose-response curve characteristic of competition immunoassays. Furthermore, Triton-denatured G6PD (Triton-G6PD) was used in competitive ELISA. The paG6PD, SDS-G6PD, or Triton-G6PD used as competitors increased the inhibition of antibody binding to immobilized either of nG6PD or denatured G6PD compared with nG6PD competitor. The inhibition by denatured G6PD competitors was more pronounced at high competitor concentrations than at low counterparts. We conclude that anti-G6PD serum raised against nG6PD can effectively react with denatured G6PD in competitive ELISA and that our anti-G6PD serum recognizes denatured enzymes better than active enzymes.

  • G $e_{1-x}$ S $n_{x}$G $e_{1-y}$S $n_{y}$ is a very promising material for the high-speed device due to the fact that electron and hole mobilities for the strained G $e_{1-x}$ S $n_{x}$G $e_{1-y}$S $n_{y}$ are greatly enhanced. Because G $e_{1-x}$ S $n_{x}$G $e_{1-y}$S $n_{y}$ has a direct band gap for the proper combination of x and y, it can be applied to the optoelectronic device. Therefore, the study of the electrical property for G $e_{1-x}$ S $n_{x}$G $e_{1-y}$S $n_{y}$(001) with a direct energy gap is needed. G $e_{1-x}$ S $n_{x}$ layer can not be grown thickly due to the large difference of lattice constants. This fact prefers the structure of the device where electrons and holes move in the plane direction. The transverse mobilities of electron and hole for G $e_{0.8}$S $n_{0.2}$Ge(001) are 2~3 times larger than those for Ge/Ge/ sub0.8/S $n_{0.2}$(001). Therefore, G $e_{0.8}$S $n_{0.2}$Ge(001) is expected to be better than Ge/G $e_{0.8}$S $n_{0.2}$(001) for the development of the high-speed device.h-speed device.device.h-speed device. device.

  • Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has been used as effective photocatalyst for degradation of antibiotics under visible light irradiation. However, the fast recombination of hole-electron pair may limit their photocatalytic efficiency. In our study, Ag was grafted on g-C3N4/g-C3N4 isotype heterojunction by a microwave-assisted decomposition method. The structure and physical properties of heterojunction photocatalyst were characterized through X-ray diffraction, UV-DRS, FT-IR, and Photoluminescence analyses. Ag decorated g-C3N4/g-C3N4 isotype heterojunction exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation of sulfamethoxazole under irradiation under visible light irradiation within 210 min, which is higher than g-C3N4/g-C3N4 isotype heterojunction and bulk g-C3N4. The addition of Ag may broaden the visible light absorption and restrict the recombination of hole-electron pair because of the surface plasmons resonance, resulting in the improving the photocatalytic activity.
