  • In this paper, an S(stochastic)-eigenvalue and its corresponding S-eigenvector concept for linear continuous-time systems with probabilistic uncertainties are proposed. The proposed concept is concerned with the perturbation of eigenvalues due to the stochastic variable parameters in the dynamic model of a plant. An S-eigenstructure assignment scheme via the Sylvester equation approach based on the S-eigenvalue/-eigenvector concept is also proposed. The proposed control design scheme based on the proposed concept is applied to a longitudinal dynamics of an open-loop-unstable aircraft with possible uncertainties in aerodynamic and thrust effects as well as separate dynamic pressure effects. These results explicitly characterize how S-eigenvalues in the complex plane may impose stability on the system.

  • The Nyquist robust stability margin is proposed as a measure of robust stability for systems with Affine TFM(Transfer Function Matrix) parametric uncertainty. The parametric uncertainty is modeled through a Affine TFM MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) description with dead-time, and the unstructured uncertainty through a bounded perturbation of Affine polynomials. Gershgorin's theorem and concepts of diagonal dominance and GB(Gershgorin Bands) are extended to include model uncertainty. Multiloop PI/PID controllers can be tuned by using a modified version of the Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) relations. Consequently, this paper provides sufficient conditions for the robustness of Affine TFM MIMO uncertain systems with dead-time based on Rosenbrock's DNA. Simulation examples show the performance and efficiency of the proposed multiloop design method for Affine uncertain systems with dead-time.

  • Satellite formation flying is currently an active area of research in the aerospace engineering. There are many categories for this research such as the determination of initial conditions, formation keeping, configuration and reconfiguration. In this study, a tracking controller using sliding mode techniques is designed to control a satellite for the satellite formation flying. In general, Hill's equations are used to describe the relative motion of the follower satellite with respect to the leader satellite. But, the modified Hill's equations considering J2 perturbation were used for the design of sliding mode controller. Sliding mode control law causes the chattering phenomenon because it is a discontinuous control. Dead-zone was used to avoid the chattering. The Extended Kalman filter was applied to estimate the state vector based on the measurements of relative distance and velocity between two satellites.

  • Satellite formation flying is the placing of multiple satellites into nearby orbits to form 'clusters' of satellites. These clusters of satellites usually work together to accomplish a mission. There are many benefits to using multiple satellite as opposed to one large satellites such as increasing productivity. reducing mission and launch cost. Hill's equations are useful to describe the relative motion of two satellites in formation flying, however. the disturbance forces acting on satellites is not considered in that equations. In this paper, a method for maintaining the relative distance between satellites is presented, which used mean orbital elements considering J2 perturbation. Control design process is also presented for minimizing total fuel consumption.

  • For the overdetermined linear system, when both the data matrix and the observed data are contaminated by noise, Total Least Squares method is an appropriate approach. Since an ill-conditioned data matrix with noise causes a large perturbation in the solution, some kind of regularization technique is required to filter out such noise. In this paper, we consider a Dual regularized Total Least Squares problem. Unlike the Tikhonov regularization which constrains the size of the solution, a Dual regularized Total Least Squares problem considers two constraints; one constrains the size of the error in the data matrix, the other constrains the size of the error in the observed data. Our method derives two nonlinear equations to construct the iterative method. However, since the Jacobian matrix of two nonlinear equations is not guaranteed to be nonsingular, we adopt a trust-region based iteration method to obtain the solution.

In this study, a tracking controller using sliding mode techniques was designed to control a satellite for the satellite formation flying. In general, Hill's equations are used to describe the relative motion of the follower satellite with respect to the leader satellite. The extended Kalman filter was applied to estimate the state vector based on the measurements of relative distance and velocity between two satellites. The simulation results show that the follower satellite tracks the desired trajectory well by thruster operations based on the sliding mode control law.

  • In this paper, we consider the Gudnason model of 𝒩 = 2 supersymmetric field theory, where the gauge field dynamics is governed by two Chern-Simons terms. Recently, it was shown by Han et al. that for a prescribed configuration of vortex points, there exist at least two distinct solutions for the Gudnason model in a flat two-torus, where a sufficient condition was obtained for the existence. Furthermore, one of these solutions has the asymptotic behavior of topological type. In this paper, we prove that such doubly periodic topological solutions are uniquely determined by the location of their vortex points in a weak-coupling regime.

  • This work presents fuel-optimal altitude maintenance of Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) spacecrafts experiencing non-negligible air drag and J2 perturbation. A pseudospectral (direct) method is first applied to roughly estimate an optimal fuel consumption strategy, which is employed as an initial guess to precisely determine itself. Based on the physical specifications of KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2 (KOMPSAT-2), a Korean artificial satellite, numerical simulations show that a satellite ascends with full thrust at the early stage of the maneuver period and then descends with null thrust. While the thrust profile is presumably bang-off, it is difficult to precisely determine the switching time by using a pseudospectral method only. This is expected, since the optimal switching epoch does not coincide with one of the collocation points prescribed by the pseudospectral method, in general. As an attempt to precisely determine the switching time and the associated optimal thrust history, a shooting (indirect) method is then employed with the initial guess being obtained through the pseudospectral method. This hybrid process allows the determination of the optimal fuel consumption for LEO spacecrafts and their thrust profiles efficiently and precisely.

  • The improvements of the DeCART/MUSAD code system for uncertainty analysis of HTGR neutronic parameters are presented in this paper. The function for quantifying an uncertainty of critical-spectrumweighted few group cross section was implemented using the generalized adjoint B1 equation solver. Though the changes between the infinite and critical spectra cause a considerable difference in the contribution by the graphite scattering cross section, it does not significantly affect the total uncertainty. To reduce the number of iterations of the generalized adjoint transport equation solver, the generalized adjoint B1 solution was used as the initial value for it and the number of iterations decreased to 50%. To reflect the implicit uncertainty, the correction factor was derived with the resonance integral. Moreover, an additional correction factor for the double heterogeneity was derived with the effective cross section of the DH region and it reduces the difference from the complete uncertainty. The code system was examined with the MHTGR-350 Ex.II-2 3D core benchmark. The keff uncertainty for Ex.II-2a with only the fresh fuel block was similar to that of the block and the uncertainty for Ex.II-2b with the fresh fuel and the burnt fuel blocks was smaller than that of the fresh fuel block.

  • If an internal combustion engine is operated by consolidated control, the minimum fuel consumption is achieved satisfying the demanded objectives. For this, it is necessary that the engine is operated on the ideal operating line which satisfies minimum fuel consumption. In this context of view, there are many tries to achieve given object. However, the parameter in the internal combustion engines are variable and depend on the operating points. Therefore, it is necessary to cope with the uncertainties such that the optimal operating may be possible. From this point of view, this paper gives a controller design method and a robust stability condition for engine torque control which satisfies the given control performance and robust stability in the presence of physical parameter perturbation. Exactly, the present paper considers a robust stability of this 2DOF servosystem with nonlinear type uncertainty in the engine system, and a robust stability condition for the servosystem is introduced. This result guarantees that if the plant uncertainty is in the permissible set defined by the given condition then a gain tuning can be carried out to suppress the influence of the plant uncertainties.
