NDIR $CO_2$ gas sensor was prototyped with ASIC implemented thermopile sensor which included temperature sensor and White-Cell structure in this paper. The temperature dependency of dual infrared sensors ($CO_2$ and reference IR sensors) has been characterized and their output voltage ratios according to the temperature and gas concentration were presented in this paper for achieving temperature compensation algorithm. The initial output voltages of NDIR $CO_2$ gas and reference IR sensors showed $3^{rd}$ order polynomial and linear output voltages according to the variation of ambient temperatures from 253 K to 333 K, respectively. The output voltages of temperature sensor presented a linear dependency according to the ambient temperature and could be described with V(T) = -3.0069+0.0145T(V). The characteristics of output voltage ratios could be modeled with five parameters which are dependent upon the ambient temperatures and gas concentration. The estimated $CO_2$ concentrations showed relatively high error below 300 ppm (maximum 572 % at 7 ppm $CO_2$ concentration), however, as the concentration increased from 500 ppm to 2,000 ppm, the overall estimated errors of $CO_2$ concentrations were less than ${\pm}10%$ in this research.

SnO2/Pt CO gas sensors operating at relatively low temperature were fabricated, and their performance characteristics were measured. When the mixing weight ratio of SnO2/Pt was 99.5/0.5, a good sensitivity to CO gas was obtained. And the experimental results were in consistent with the gas sensing model. The optimum operating, temperature range of the fabricated devices was 50-80\ulcorner and the response time was 15 sec. at 80\ulcorner in 1000 ppm CO ambient. The humidity dependence of sensitibity to CO gas could be reduced by adding hydrophokbic silica to the mixture of SnO2 and Pt. For the practical application of the fabricated devices, a CO gas alarming system has been developed.

Detection of $CO_2$ gas in both indoor and outdoor atmospheres is now becoming an important issue because of greenhouse effect and climate crisis. In this study, gas sensors based on $SnO_2-Cr_2O_3$ composite nanofibers were fabricated by the electrospinning method to detect $CO_2$ gas. The gas sensors showed a response to ppm level of $CO_2$ gas from room temperature to $200^{\circ}C$ while the highest response was observed at $150^{\circ}C$. The gas response is enhanced by the catalytic property of $Cr_2O_3$. Selective $CO_2$ detection is obtained through the chemical reaction of $Cr_2O_3$ to chromium carbonate. All the results suggest the $SnO_2-Cr_2O_3$ composite material is promising for the use of $CO_2$ gas sensors.
Xylene is a hazardous volatile organic compound that should be precisely measured to monitor indoor air quality. However, the selective and sensitive detection of ppm-level xylene using oxide-semiconductor gas sensors remains a challenge. In this study, pure and Cr-doped Co3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using flame spray pyrolysis, and their gas-sensing characteristics to 5-ppm xylene at 250 ℃ were investigated. The 4 at% Cr-doped Co3O4 NPs exhibited a high gas response to 5-ppm xylene (resistance ratio to gas and air = 39.1) and negligible cross-responses to other representative and ubiquitous indoor pollutants such as ethanol, benzene, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and ammonia. In this paper, the enhancement of the gas response and selectivity of Co3O4 NPs to xylene by Cr doping was discussed in relation to the catalytic promotion of the gas-sensing reaction. This sensor can be used to monitor indoor xylene.

Nanofibers(NFs), because of their high surface area and nanosized grains, have appropriate morphologies for use in chemiresistive-type sensors for gas detection applications. In this study, a highly sensitive and selective CO gas sensing material based on Au-decorated $SnO_2$ NFs was fabricated by electrospinning. $SnO_2$ NFs were synthesized by electrospinning and subsequently decorated with various amounts of Au nanoparticles(NPs) by sputtering; this was followed by thermal annealing. Different characterizations showed the successful formation of Au-decorated $SnO_2$ NFs. Gas sensing tests were performed on the fabricated sensors, which showed bell-shaped sensing behavior with respect to the amount of Au decoration. The best CO sensing performance, with a response of ~20 for 10 ppm CO, was obtained at an optimized amount of Au (2.6 at.%). The interplay between Au and $SnO_2$ in terms of the electronic and chemical sensitization by Au NPs is responsible for the great improvement in the CO sensing capability of pure $SnO_2$ NFs, suggesting that Au-decorated $SnO_2$ NFs can be a promising material for fabricating highly sensitive and selective chemiresistive-type CO gas sensors.
Thick film formaldehyde (HCHO) gas sensors were fabricated by using $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M= Fe, Co, Mn) ceramics. The powders of $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M=Fe, Co, Mn) were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction method. By using the $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M=Fe, Co, Mn) paste, the thick-film formaldehyde sensors were prepared on the alumina substrate by silkscreen printing method. The experimental results revealed that $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M= Fe, Co, Mn) ceramic powder has a perovskite structure and the thick-film sensor shows excellent gas-sensing characteristics to formaldehyde gas (sensitivity of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}FeO_3$, S= 14.7 at operating temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ in 50 ppm HCHO ambient).
Monitoring the carbon dioxide concentration in arterial blood is vital for the evaluation and prevention of pulmonary disease. Yet, domestic pure arterial blood carbon dioxide sensor technologies are not being developed, instead all sensors are imported. In this paper, we develop a real time monitoring system for arterial blood partial pressure of carbon dioxide($pCO_2$) gas from the wrist by using a carbon micro-heater. The micro-heater was fabricated with a thickness of 0.3 ${\mu}m$ in order to collect the carbon dioxide under the skin. The micro-heater has been designed to perform temperature compensation in order to prevent damage to the skin. Two clinical trials of the system were undertaken. As a result, we demonstrated that a portable, transcutaneous carbon dioxide analysis($TcpCO_2$) device produced domestically is possible. In addition, this system reduced the analysis time significantly. Carbon films could reduce the unit price of these sensors by replacing the gold film used in foreign models. Also, we developed a real time monitoring system which can be used with optical biosensors for medical diagnostics as well as gas sensors for environmental monitoring.
We report on the building of a micro sensor array based on typical semiconductor fabrication processes aimed at monitoring selectively a specific gas in ambient of other gases. Chemical sensors can be applied for an electronic nose and/or robots using this technique. Microsensor array was fabricated on the same chip using 0.6${\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and unique gas sensing patterns were obtained by principal component analysis from the array. $SnO_2$/Pt sensor for CO gas showed a high selectivity to buthane gas and humidity. $SnO_2$ sensor for hydrogen gas, however, showed a low selectivity to CO and buthane gas. We can obtain more distinguishable patterns that provide the small sensing deviation(the high seletivity) toward a given analyte in the response space than in the chemical space through the specific parameterization of raw data for chemical image formation.

Cu doped $SnO_2$ thick films for gas sensors were fabricated by screen printing method on alumina substrates and annealed at $500^{\circ}C$ in air, respectively. Structural properties of $SnO_2$ by X-ray diffraction showed (110), (101) and (211) dominant tetragonal phase. The effects of catalyst Cu in $SnO_2$-based gas sensors were investigated. Sensitivity of $SnO_2$:Cu sensors to 2,000 ppm $CO_2$ gas and 50 ppm $H_2S$ gas was investigated for various Cu concentration. The highest sensitivity to $CO_2$ gas and $H_2S$ gas of Cu doped $SnO_2$ gas sensors was observed at the 8 wt% and 12 wt% Cu concentration, respectively. The improved sensitivity in the Cu doped $SnO_2$ gas sensors was explained by decrease of electron depletion region in Cu and $SnO_2$ junction, and increase of reactive oxygen and surface area in the $SnO_2$.
The porous sensing materials for BaTiO$_3$ gas sensors were fabricated by adding the graphite powders. The crystalline structure and microstructure of the porous BaTiO$_3$-based ceramics were studied. All the sintered bodies showed a tetragonal perovskite structure. The porosity increased with increasing graphite contents. This is mainly due to an enhanced evolution of CO and $CO_2$ gases resulting from the exothermic reactions of graphite and oxygen during the sintering. It was found that the discrepancy in the resistivities measured in air and CO atmospheres at high temperatures (>∼20$0^{\circ}C$) became remarkable with increasing temperature. The sensitivity of CO gas increased with porosity, since the reactions between CO gas and $O_2$$^{[-10]}$ and between CO gas and $O^{[-10]}$ are active due to the formation of many reaction sites. The porous BaTiO$_3$-based ceramics could be promising as a sensing material for CO gas sensors.
