A SiOxCy(-H) thin film was synthesized by atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge(APDBD), and a SiO₂-like layer was formed on the surface of the film by oxidation treatment using oxygen plasma. Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane was used as a precursor for the SiOxCy(-H) synthesis, and He gas was used for stabilizing APDBD. Oxygen permeability was evaluated by forming an oxidized SiOxCy(-H) thin film on a PET film. When the single-layer oxidized SiOxCy(-H) film was coated on the PET, the oxygen gas permeability decreased by 46% compared with bare PET. In case of three-layer oxidized SiOxCy(-H) film, the oxygen gas permeability decreased by 73%. The oxygen permeability was affected by the thickness of the SiO₂-like layer formed by oxidation treatment rather than the thickness of the SiOxCy(-H) film. The excellent corrosion resistance was demonstrated by coating an oxidized SiOxCy(-H) thin film on the silver-coated aluminum PCB for light emitting diode (LED).

Silver is an inexpensive precious metal and is used in various jewelry in Asia. Although silver has high potential, it has corrosion resistance that is vulnerable to boiling sulfuric acid and nitric acid. So, silver research is needed to prevent the corrosion with environment. But silver corrosion is not studied. sulfuric acid make the uniform corrosion and chloride ion make the pitting corrosion. ICCP inhibits the corrosion because it offset electrons. This study used a potential from - 4 V to 4 V to check the effect of potential. Corrosion rate is lowet at -1 V.

Composite material of the graphene ball (GB) inserted graphene oxide (GO) sheet for a supercapacitor electrode was studied. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process used to make GBs on the silicon oxide nanoparticles. The GBs mixed into the GO sheets to make GOGB and reduced it to create a reduced GOGB(RGOGB) composite. The RGOGB composite electrode had a large surface area and improved electrochemical properties. Specific capacitance of the RGBGO composite electrode was higher over 20 times than a pure GO and GOGB electrode in cyclic voltammetry(CV) tests, and the Z' and Z" impedance measured by an electrochemical impedance spectrometry(EIS) also low. So, the RGBGO composite electrode would use effectively to expand a performance of supercapacitor.

This paper investigated the characteristics of anodized aluminum 6061-T6 alloy for corrosion and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) under natural seawater. The hard anodizing oxide film formed on the 6061-T6 was a uniform thickness of about 25 ㎛. The corrosion characteristics were performed with a potentiodynamic polarization test. SCC was characterized by a slow strain rate tensile test under 0.005mm/min rate. As a result, the anodizing film showed no significant effect on SCC in the slow strain rate test. However, the corrosion current density of base metal was measured to be approximately 13 times higher than that of the anodized specimen. Therefore, the anodizing film significantly improved the corrosion resistance of 6061-T6 alloy in natural seawater.

This article investigated the effects of stainless steel plate-patterns bonded to aluminum frypan on the thermal distortion and surface temperature of the frypan during gas or induction heating. Two different stainless steel plate-patterns were employed: type A contains only circular holes and type B has not only circular holes but also vacant spaces of 0.5 mm thick and 40 mm long straight line crossing 60 mm long curved line. The bottom of the frypan was distorted during heating when type A stainless steel plate-bonded frypan while no significant thermal distortion was observed for type B stainless steel plate-bonded frypan during heating. Temperature of the frypan surface showed the same trend during gas heating, irrespective of stainless steel plate-patterns. During induction heating, however, the frypan with type B stainless steel plate-pattern showed lower surface temperature than the frypan with type A stainless steel plate-pattern. It is concluded that Type B stainless steel plate-pattern with circular holes and vacant spaces of lines is very effective for minimizing a thermal distortion and lowering the surface temperature of an aluminum frypan during induction heating.

Cu₂O films as a photocathode for photoelectrochemical water splitting were potentiostatically deposited on FTO glasses. The morphology and composition of the electrodeposited Cu₂O films were adjusted by the applied potentials. The potential-dependent grain size of Cu₂O films was characterized by XRD and SEM analysis. Photoelectrochemical properties of the fabricated Cu₂O photocathodes were investigated with photocurrents as a function of potentials under 1 sun condition of 100mW/㎠. Photocurrents of the electrodeposited Cu₂O films were controlled with the tailored surface morphologies of Cu₂O photocathodes.

The change of the deposition behavior of diamond through a pretreatment process of the base metal prior to diamond deposition using HFCVD was investigated. To improve the specific surface area of the base material, sanding was performed using sandblasting first, and chemical etching treatment was performed to further improve the uniform specific surface area. Chemical etching was performed by immersing the base material in HCl solutions with various etching time. Thereafter, seeding was performed by immersing the sanded and etched base material in a diamond seeding solution. Diamond deposition according to all pretreatment conditions was performed under the same conditions. Methane was used as the carbon source and hydrogen was used as the reaction gas. The most optimal conditions were found by analyzing the improvement of the specific surface area and uniformity, and the optimal diamond seeding solution concentration and immersion time were also obtained for the diamond particle seeding method. As a result, the sandblasted base material was immersed in 20% HCl for 60 minutes at 100 ℃ and chemically etched, and then immersed in a diamond seeding solution of 5 g/L and seeded using ultrasonic waves for 30 minutes. It was possible to obtain optimized economical diamond film growth rates.

As the size of manufacturing equipment for LCD and OLED displays increases, replacement of existing heavy stainless steel components with light metals, such as aluminum alloys, is being more important in semiconducting and display manufacturing industries. To use aluminum alloys for components in semiconducting and display industries, it is important to develop a new anodization method for improved performance of anodic oxide films than conventional anodization method based on sulfuric acid. In this work, optimum applied current density and the best sealing methods for anodic oxide films in 3% oxalic acid were explored. Experimental results showed 2.5 A/dm2 is the best applied current density for improved hardness and dielectric breakdown voltage. Sealing of the anodic oxide films further improved their hardness, dielectric breakdown voltage and resistance to HCl, by which application of anodic oxide films become applicable for components in semiconducting and display industries.

Anodization of Fe and Fe alloys is one of the most promising techniques to obtain iron oxide films applying to the various electrochemical devices due to their electrochemical catalytic properties. In this study, we investigate on the preparation of anodic iron oxide composite incorporated with WO₃ through a single-step anodization of stainless steel type-304 (STS304) as a substrate. The effects of applied voltage and tungsten precursor on the structural characteristics of iron oxide composite with different amount of incorporated WO₃ were observed. It is demonstrated that when the voltage of 60 V applied with 20 mM of Na₂WO₄ as a precursor, anodic iron oxide composite with a large pore diameter and a thick oxide length in which WO₃ is uniformly incorporated is obtained.

We investigated mechanochemical radical, which is concomitant with chemical lift-off lithography(CLL), on the self-assembled monolayer(SAM)/electrodes and a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) using a colorimetric and a spectroscopic method. The 11-mercaptoundecanol(MUO)/Au or the 11-hydroxyundecylphosphonic acid (HUPA)/ITO were contacted with bare or activated PDMS. After contact, the each of SAM/substrates and the PDMS were immersed in a 2,2 Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) radical scavenger. The color of the DPPH exposed to the PDMS was changed from purple to yellow and the absorbance decreased definitely at 515 nm wavelength. The SAM/substrates, however, have caused small changes in spectroscopic property, indicating no existence of radical species. We concluded that mechanochemical radicals were formed by homolytic cleavage of PDMS molecules upon external force and hardly transferred on the SAM/substrates.
