The distribution live-line work method is an operation method of working in a state in which electricity flows through overhead distribution lines to minimize inconvenience to electric customers due to power failure. In June 2016, to strengthen the safety of electrical workers, Korea Electric Power Corporation announced that it would in principle abolish the rubber glove method, in which workers wore protective equipment such as rubber gloves and performed their maintenance work. In addition, KEPCO announced that it would develop a short-range live working method using smart sticks and an advanced live-line maintenance robot system where workers work without touching wires directly. This paper is a preliminary study for the development of the live-line maintenance robot system, and deals with the results of analyzing the technical feasibility of whether the live works performed by workers can be replaced by robots or not. -

This paper introduce Renewable Energy forecasting technology, which is a part of renewable management system. Then, calculation method of dedicated transmission line's meteorological data to forecast renewable energy is suggested. As the case of dedicated transmission line, there is only power output data combined the number of renewable plants' output that acquired from circuit breakers. So it is need to calculate meteorological data for dedicated transmission line that matched combined power output data. this paper suggests two calculation method. First method is select the plant has the largest capacity, and use it's meteorological data as line meteorological data. Second method is average with weight that given according to plants' capacity. In case study, suggested methods are applied to real data. Then use calculated data to Renewable forecasting and analyze the forecasting results. -

In this paper, the change history of various types of MV (Medium Voltage) cables was investigated. In addition, the statistical life expectancy of each type was calculated by using the operation data and the failure data. For cut-off year, 10 years was applied, and realistically applicable statistical life expectancy was calculated by correcting the cause of failure entered by mistake. The life expectancy of FR-CNCO-W was calculated as 51.2 years, CNCV-W 38.1 years, and CNCV 31.4 years and the overall average is 33.8 years. Currently, the life expectancy of TR CNCV-W is 29.4 years, but it is estimated that the lifespan will be extended if failure data is accumulated. As a result, it is expected that life expectancy results can be applied to Asset Management System (AMS) in the future. -

This paper actually investigates the load on major large-scale buildings in the downtown area, examines the economic feasibility of installing PV and ESS in a microgrid target building, and evaluates whether an electric vehicle capable of V2G through two buildings is effective as an economical analysis program (HOMER) was analyzed using. It is economical to install a mixture of ESS rather than using the whole PV, and it is shown that if there is an electric vehicle using the V2G function of EV, there is an economic effect to replace the PV. So that Incentives and policies are needed to replace a large area of PV and utilize the existing parking lot to lead EV as a resource of the microgrid. Currently, P2X technology that stores power as ESS or converts it to other energy to control when surplus renewable energy occurs in large-capacity solar power plants and wind farms, etc. This is being applied, and efforts are being made to maintain the stability of the system through the management of surplus power, such as replacing thermal energy through a heat pump. Due to the increase in electric vehicles, which were recognized only as a means of transportation, technologies for using electric vehicles are developing. Accordingly, existing gas stations do not only supply traditional chemical fuels, but electricity, and super stations that also produce electricity have appeared. Super Station is a new concept power plant that can produce and store electricity using solar power, ESS, V2G, and P2G. To take advantage of this, research on an urban microgrid that forms an independent system by tying a large building and several buildings together and supplies power through a super station around the microgrid is in full swing. -

Recently, as the number of years of operation has increased for more than 30 years, interest in evaluating the remaining life of major power facilities such as transformers and ultra-high voltage cables is increasing. In particular, the risk of failure is increasing because the underground transmission XLPE cable has been built since 1980 and has been operating in excess of 30 years of design life or close proximity. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an algorithm to evaluate the residual life of the XLPE cable considering the load to determine the risk of failure. Since load data is large amount of data, it is necessary to make the variable load information equivalent to the time unit first in order to calculate the remaining life of the system quickly. In overseas literature, transformers are reported to be standardized for variable load equivalent conversion formulas, but they have not been reported for ultra-high voltage cables. Therefore, in this paper, whether the equivalent conversion formula of a transformer can be applied to XLPE cables was reviewed through accelerated degradation tests under equivalent and variable temperature conditions, and considerations were studied when evaluating the remaining operating life of XLPE cables based on the experimental results. -

Recently, the amount of maintenance is increasing due to the aging of power facilities, but the budget is constrained. Therefore, the importance of asset management that selects replacement priorities based on the failure probability and enhances investment effects is increasing. Because the number of distribution transformers is very large, the proportion of investment cost is very high. Therefore, it is important to select the investment priority by evaluating the reliable remaining life based on the failure probability. This paper evaluates the statistical expected life using the failure data of distribution transformers for the last 11 years and the current operation data. The hazard rate of distribution transformer and MV cable was compared with each other and the adequacy of early failure removal was reviewed and the statistical expected life corresponding to the cumulative failure probability B3% was calculated. -
Recently, there has been an increasing demand for electric equipment installed on the ground to be installed in an underground space. Accordingly, U-CDS (Underground-Compact Distribution Station) installed in the underground is supplied, and to improve its weak ventilation performance, an Airdam-type structure was applied and the effect was analyzed. As a result, the temperature around the transformer was reduced by up to 9.5 degrees, and the air flow increased by up to 1.17 m/s. Airdam structure can be supplied in the form of various sculptures because it is possible to design freely while maintaining its principle.

The boiler tubes of thermal power plants are exposed to harsh environment of high temperature and high pressure, and the deterioration state of materials rapidly increases. In particular, parent material and welds of the materials used are subjected to a temperature change and various constraints, resulting in deformation and its growth, resulting in frequent leakage accidents caused by tube failure. The power plant checks the integrity of boiler tubes through non-destructive testing as it may act as huge costs loss and limitation of power supply during power station shutdown period due to boiler tube leakage. However, the current non-destructive testing is extremely limited in the field to detect micro cracks. In this study, the ability of metal magnetic memory technique to detect flaws of size that are difficult to inspect by the visual or general non-destructive methods was verified in the early stage of their occurrence. -

In this study we investigated the gas to solid heat transfer of bubbling fluidized bed bottom ash cooler installed at the Donghae power plant in South Korea. Several different analyses are done through 1-D calculations and 3-D CFD simulation to predict the bottom ash exit temperatures when it exits the ash cooler. Three different cases are set up to have consideration of unburnt carbon in the bottom ash. Sensible heat comparison and heat transfer calculation between the fluidization air and the bottom ash are conducted and 3-D CFD analysis is done on three cases. We have obtained the results that the bottom ash with unburnt carbon is exiting the ash cooler, exceeding the targeted temperature from both 1-D calculation and 3-D CFD simulation. -

Ultrafine Particle number and size distributions were simultaneously measured at rural area around the power plant in Dangjin, South Korea. New Particle formation and growth events were frequently observed during January, 2021 and classified based on their strength and persistence as well as the variation in geometric mean diameter(GMD) on January 12, 21 and 17. In this study, we investigated mechanisms of new particle growth based on measurements using a high resolution time of flight aerosol mass spectrometer(HR-ToF-AMS) and a scanning mobility particle sizer(SMPS). On Event days(Jan 12 and 21), the total average growth rate was found to be 8.46 nm/h~24.76 nm/hr. These growth rate are comparable to those reported for other urban and rural sites in South Korea using different method. Comparing to the Non-Event day(Jan 17), New Particle Growth mostly occurred when solar radiation is peaked and relative humidity is low in daytime, moreover enhanced under the condition of higher precusors, NO2 (39.9 vs 6.2ppb), VOCs(129.5 vs 84.6ppb), NH3(11 vs 4.7ppb). The HR-ToF-AMS PM1.0 composition shows Organic and Ammoniated nitrate were dominant species effected by emission source in domestic. On the other hand, The Fraction of Ammoniated sulfate was calculated to be approximately 16% and 31% when air quality is inflow from China. Longer term studies are needed to help resolve the relative contributions of each precusor species on new particle growth characteristics. -

SF6 is used as an insulating gas because of its excellent electrical insulation properties, non-toxicity, and non-inflammability. On the other hand, the global warming potential of SF6 is 23,900 times higher than that of CO2. The Korea electric power cooperation (KEPCO) is responsible for 80% of the domestic SF6 usage, and approximately 6,000 tons are currently charged in electrical and power facilities. KEPCO will gradually replace the insulating gas with SF6-free gas from 2023. SF6 decomposition facilities are required because more than 60 tons of SF6 will need to be disposed of annually from existing equipment. This study developed a novel decomposition and pollution control system that can process 60 tons of SF6 per year. This facility can decompose more than 97.7% of SF6, with the emissions of hazardous and toxic materials below the legal limit. -

A growing number of gas-insulated transformers in underground power substations in urban areas are approaching 20 years of operation, the time when failures begin to occur. It is thus essential to prevent failure through accurate condition diagnosis of the given facility. Various solid insulation materials exist inside of the transformers, and the generated decomposition gas may differ for each gas-insulated equipment. In this study, a simulation system was designed to analyze the deterioration characteristics of SF6 decomposition gas and insulation materials under the conditions of partial discharge and thermal fault for diagnosis of gas-insulated transformers. Degradation characteristics of the insulation materials was determined using an automatic viscometer and FT-IR. The analysis results showed that the pattern of decomposition gas generation under partial discharge and thermal fault was different. In particular, acetaldehyde was detected under a thermal fault in all types of insulation, but not under partial discharge or an arc condition. In addition, in the case of insulation materials, deterioration of the insulation itself rapidly progressed as the experimental temperature increased. It was confirmed that it was possible to diagnose the internal discharge or thermal fault occurrence of the transformer through the ratio and type of decomposition gas generated in the gas-insulated transformer. -

With the advent of high technologies such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and artificial intelligence and big data, efforts are being made to solve urban problems and improve the quality of life by applying new technologies in the smart city field. In addition, as carbon neutrality has emerged as an important issue due to global warming, smart city energy platform technologies such as urban energy management, efficiency improvement, and carbon reduction are in the spotlight. In order to effectively manage urban energy, energy resource information such as electricity, water, gas, hot water, heating, etc. must be collected from the management system of various energy utilities and managed on the central platform. The centrally integrated data is delivered to external city management systems that require city energy information through an energy platform. This study developed a CIM profile for smart city energy monitoring required to provide energy data to external systems. Electric data model were designed using the CIM class of IEC 61970, and water, gas, and heat data model were designed in compliance with the UML-based design ideas of IEC 61970. -

To inspect the power facility faults using artificial intelligence, it need that improve the accuracy of the diagnostic model are required. Data augmentation skill using generative adversarial network (GAN) is one of the best ways to improve deep learning performance. GAN model can create realistic-looking fake images using two competitive learning networks such as discriminator and generator. In this study, we intend to verify the effectiveness of virtual data generation technology by including the fake image of power facility generated through GAN in the deep learning training set. The GAN-based fake image was created for damage of LP insulator, and ResNet based normal and defect classification model was developed to verify the effect. Through this, we analyzed the model accuracy according to the ratio of normal and defective training data. -

As ESS safety issues increase recently, there is a need to more precisely monitor the temperature of the ESS. In this paper, DTS technology for temperature monitoring of ESS batteries is introduced and the temperature measurement principle is explained. The temperature of the battery module is measured using the DTS system, and the thermal deviation between battery cells inside the battery module is analyzed. In order to analyze how thermal imbalance affects the charging and discharging performance of the battery, an accelerated degradation test was conducted. Cycle life characteristics analysis, battery surface temperature change, and AC impedance characteristics were conducted to analyze how the performance of battery cells differs according to temperature conditions. -

The transition to renewable energy, especially the expansion of photovoltaic (PV) generation, has become a global megatrend that can no longer be reserved. However, since the site for PV is limited, it is necessary to use the land efficiently. As an alternative, the concept of utility scale agricultural PV(UAPV) is a technology that continues farming in the lower part and installs PV in the upper part of farmland to efficiently use the land. Therefore, for UAPV, the growth of crops in the lower part and the optimal operation of PV in the upper part are important. In this, we analyze the characteristics of the upper PV generation system in the UAPV based on the empirical results under various conditions, and propose future research directions of the UAPV. -

Often a network becomes complex, and multiple entities would get in charge of managing part of the whole network. An example is a utility grid. While the entire grid would go under a single utility company's responsibility, the network is often split into multiple subsections. Subsequently, each subsection would be given as the responsibility area to the corresponding sub-organization in the utility company. The issue of how to make subsystems of adequate size and minimum number of interconnections between subsystems becomes more critical, especially in real-time simulations. Because the computation capability limit of a single computation unit, regardless of whether it is a high-speed conventional CPU core or an FPGA computational engine, it comes with a maximum limit that can be completed within a given amount of execution time. The issue becomes worsened in real time simulation, in which the computation needs to be in precise synchronization with the real-world clock. When the subject of the computation allows for a longer execution time, i.e., a larger time step size, a larger portion of the network can be put on a computation unit. This translates into a larger margin of the difference between the worst and the best. In other words, even though the worst (or the largest) computational burden is orders of magnitude larger than the best (or the smallest) computational burden, all the necessary computation can still be completed within the given amount of time. However, the requirement of real-time makes the margin much smaller. In other words, the difference between the worst and the best should be as small as possible in order to ensure the even distribution of the computational load. Besides, data exchange/communication is essential in parallel computation, affecting the overall performance. However, the exchange of data takes time. Therefore, the corresponding consideration needs to be with the computational load distribution among multiple calculation units. If it turns out in a satisfactory way, such distribution will raise the possibility of completing the necessary computation in a given amount of time, which might come down in the level of microsecond order. This paper presents an effective way to split a given electrical network, according to multiple criteria, for the purpose of distributing the entire computational load into a set of even (or close to even) sized computational loads. Based on the proposed system splitting method, heavy computation burdens of large-scale electrical networks can be distributed to multiple calculation units, such as an RTDS real time simulator, achieving either more efficient usage of the calculation units, a reduction of the necessary size of the simulation time step, or both. -

As the charges/discharges of VRFB-ESS were repeated during 150cycles or more, the capacity of electrolyte in VRFB-ESS was decreased little by little. It results from the decreasing of the level of anolyte and the increasing of the valance value of the catholyte. Then, we tried to recover the capacity loss with 3 different ways. The first way was that the levels of anolyte and catholyte were allowed to be evenly equalized when the difference in the levels of two different electrolytes were severe. The second one was to lessen the valance value of the catholyte through the reduction reaction to 4-valant ions of 5-valant ions in the catholyte with the reductant, oxalic acid. The last one was that the all electrolytes of analyte and catholyte were allowed to be electro-chemically reduced to 3.5 of the valance value by oxidizing new electrolyte with 3.5 valance ions. The last way was the most effective to recover the capacity loss.
