This study investigated relationships among family environment, quality of child care center and chlld's stress behaviors. The subjects were 241 boys, 197 girls and their mothers in 7 child care centers in Seoul and Kyonggido. Children's behaviors were evaluated by three raters(mothers, teachers, and observers) in either a family setting or a child care center. The results showed that children who had problem behaviors in their families showed more stress and problem behaviors in the child care centers. Mothers who reported more stressful life events and parental stress had children with more problem behaviors in their families. Observers and teachers reported fewer stress and problem behaviors in child care centers rated as showing high quality of program.
The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of the modernity of mothers and children's misbehavior on parenting stress of mothers. The subjects of this study was 210 mothers who lived in Korea. The results of this study were as follows: First, No significant statistical difference was found on the parental modernity of mothers by children's sex. Second, No significant statistical difference was found on parenting stress of mothers by the level of education of mothers but significant statistical difference was found on parenting stress by the level of parental modernity. Third, the more mothers had the level of education, the more mothers had parental modernity. Fourth, more children had misbehavior, the more mothers had parenting stress, Fifth, the more mothers had the parental modernity, the less mothers had parenting stress. These results suggest that the parenting stress was effected by both parenting modernity and children's misbehavior but also it was much relevant to children's misbehavior than parenting modernity.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate stress, coping and social support of mothers of children with seizure disorders, and to identify the relationship between these variables. Method: The participants were 105 mothers of children with seizure disorders. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include stress, coping and social support. The data were analyzed using the SAS program. Result: Stress of mothers was significantly different according to number of times the child had been hospitalized and the mothers perception of the state of the child's health. Coping by mothers was significantly different according to religion, general health state and if mother knew the child's diagnosis. Social support for mothers was significantly different according to education level, monthly medical expenses and number of times the child had been hospitalized. Social support for mothers was correlated with stress and coping. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that coping in mothers of children with seizure disorder is related to social support. Therefore nursing interventions to reduce stress and improve coping should be provided for mothers of children with seizure disorder.
This study investigated the influences of ego-resilience, positive affects, and negative affects on stress levels in children. The subjects were 245 5th-graders. The results indicated that : (1) Ego-resiliency and positive affects were significantly positively related to each other, and these variables were significantly negatively related to negative affects and stress. (2) Ego-resiliency had a direct effect on children's stress. Additionally, positive affects and negative affects mediated between ego-resiliency and stress; this means children who had high ego-resiliency experienced more positive affects, which led to lesser negative affects and reduced levels of stress.

This study focuses on the relationship between time management behavior and parenting stress of mothers with developmentally disabled children. The participants of this study were 162 mothers whose children have developmental disabilities and attend pre-school and social welfare centers for early education. This study investigates the time management behaviors of the participants, and whether these behaviors have an effect on their time management satisfaction and parenting stress. The findings were as follows: 1) The time management behaviors of the participants were lower than average, scoring 2.87 out of 5. The order of dimensional scores from highest to lowest were sequencing, planning, recording habits, evaluating, and setting goals. 2) Time management satisfaction and parenting stress for the participants exhibited a negative correlation. 3) Adaptation behaviors of the children and time management behaviors of the mothers were factors that had significant effects on the mothers' parenting stress. These results showed the importance of time management for mothers with developmentally disabled children.
This study was performed to clarify which variables affected a mother‘s empathic behavior shown in a mother-child play session. Mother’s empathy was videotaped and recorded during mother-child twenty minute play sessions. The variables considered in the research were the mother‘s parenting stress, age and education level, and the child’s sex and birth order. Twenty four mothers volunteered to participate in this study. The age of their children was restricted to 5 years. The results were as follows; First, mothers were verbally more accepting to their second or third child, and allowed their second of third child to lead more than their first child. And older mothers were more likely to accept their children's lead. Seconds, the mothers' parenting stress for acceptance of their children and stress of depression were higher in college graduate mothers than high school graduate mothers. Third, the mother's empathy and level of parenting stress did not show any significant relationships.

This study is to investigate the stress and stress degree in mothers of autistic children. In order to obtain data for planning nursing strategies for mothers of autistic children The assessment tool for the stress was constructed through reviewing literatures on the stress and gathering the stress items by nonstructed face to face interviewing 14 mothers of autistic children The stress tool consists of 74 items each with five point rating scale A data collection was made front 160 mothers of autistic children from 11 institutions for autistic children in Seoul and Kyung-Ki province. The reliability coefficients by Cronbach's a test was 0.94 for the stress scale. The results are as follows : 1) The mean of stress is 3.19, in the area of the etiology, prognosis and the treatment-education, with cause of the treatment the edeucatlon and the prognosis of child's handicap. The mean of stress is 2.85 In the area of the negative of mother's self image, 2.45 in the area of the mother's ordinary life. The mean of stress was 2.05, lowest in the family and social relationship 2) The mean score for the total was 2.62 points. The items with highest stress score were 'All autistic child has not been understood by the society', 'If we die, 1'm afraid that this child will not be cared by someone', 'There is no institution that the child get the schoolibg', etc The stress item with the lowest mean score were 'Keep away the child from husband', 'Being divorced by husband', etc. 3) An analysis of relationship of stress degree to general characteristic shows a statisically significants difference in the number of children in the family and the cognition of the seventy of the child problem
The purpose of this study was to investigate conception of children's hospitalization stress and to make clear concepts, and to use Walker & Avant's concept analysis method. Children's hospitalization stress attributes were derived from physiological changes, individual-environmental interactions, cognitive and psychosocial developmental stage responses, and intrinsic and outward changes due to coping styles. The prerequisites for hospitalization stress of children were disease severity, biological factors, and support system, and the results were hospitalization adaptation, disease and health recovery, improvement of child development, and acquisition of coping skills. In order to solve the prerequisites for Hospitalization stress of children, it is necessary to be aware of the disease and to establish a support system of parent-family. Afterwards, we suggest more qualitative research on the hospitalization stress of children, the development of tools that reflect the characteristics of the hospitalization stress of children, and the development of programs to solve the Hospitalization stress.
Streptococcus mutans, one of a major causal agents of dental caries, is component of the dental plaque and produces various organic acids such as lactic acid as the end-product of glycolysis. In this study, we isolated S. mutans from Korean children with caries and also investigated the expression of protein under acid stress. S. mutans was identified at the species level using a 16S ribosomal DNA sequencing comparison method. The primer specificity was tested on eleven S. mutans strains isolated from Korean children with caries. The data showed that eleven strains are S. mutans. At treatment of concentration of 20 mM lactic acid in the mid-log phage, K-7 exhibited the highest maximum culture OD compared with those of other groups. As a consequence, we examined the expression of protein under 20 mM lactic acid stress using S. mutans K-7. The results of 2D gel electrophoresis by image analysis showed that thirteen proteins are up-regulated under the stress. Further study is being focused on amino acid analysis by mass spectrometry in order to analyze those spots.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of maternal parenting stress and mother's ego-resilience on mother-child attachment. More specially, mother-child attachment for higher grade elementary school children was examined according to the internal working model. Methods: Participants were 190 mothers of fourth and fifth grade elementary school children. The Maternal Parenting Stress Scale(Shin, 1997), the Scales of Ego-resilience(Yoo & Shim, 2002), and Inventory of Parent Attachment(Yang, 2006) were used to measure variables. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results: The major findings were summarized as follows: First, there were no differences between mother-child attachment according to children's gender. Second, mother-child attachment was negatively correlated with maternal parenting stress and positively correlated with ego-resilience. Next, maternal parenting stress_interaction and ego-resilience explained mother-child attachment_trust. Last, maternal stress_interaction explained mother-child attachment_isolation. Conclusion/Implications: In conclusion, the study results showed that maternal parenting stress and ego-resilience influenced mother-child attachment. based on the results, the implications of this study were discussed.
