  • Korea's main manufacturing industries, which have led its economy for the past three decades, are faced with a serious downturn and loss of competitive advantages due to the current economic depression, China's rise, and the drop of oil prices. Korean business firms must adopt the paradigm shift in their value strategies, along with a government-led industrial restructuring in order to gain sustainable competitive advantages. Business firms allocate their limited resources between value creation and value appropriation, however, what effect does strategic emphasis on value creation versus value appropriation have on a business firm's financial performance? This paper empirically addresses this issue by examining the effect of shifts in strategic emphasis on stock return. Furthermore, this study examines appropriate choices of strategic emphasis to gain differential financial performance. The data set used in this regression analysis comes from the KISLINE database of NICE Information Service. The variables that form the basis of this analysis are stock return, ROA, and Strategic Emphasis [(advertising expenditures-R&D expenditures)/assets]. The interactive effect with situational factors regarding the firm and the type of technological environment in which the firm is operating was also analyzed. Our results show that investors acknowledge a shift of strategic emphasis as a sign of stock valuation. In comparison to US, Korean business firms have weak value creation capabilities in high-technology industries, and weak value appropriation capabilities in low-technology industries. This proves Korean firms are fast followers in the global market. Our findings suggest that Korean firms have to adopt a balanced value strategy, nurturing value creation and developing value appropriation for overcoming the current economic downturn and becoming a first mover in the dawn of "Industry 4.0."

  • This study aims to investigate the relationship between consumers’ clothing consumption values, demographic features, and clothing disposal behaviors. The data were collected from 300 women aged between 20 and 59 through the online survey with the self-administered questionnaire. A series of exploratory and confirmative factor analysis was conducted to identify the dimensions of clothing consumption values and clothing disposition behaviors. Clothing consumption values consisted of six dimensions including conditional value, individuality value, fashion value, social value, practical value, and self-expression value. Clothing disposition behaviors were discovered as four dimensions such as discarding, giving, selling, and donating. A structural equation modeling analysis was employed to examine the relationship between clothing consumption values and disposition behaviors. While individuality value, fashion value, and practical value had a significantly positive impact on donating, giving, and discarding behaviors, both practical value and self-expression value negatively influenced discarding behavior. Fashion value negatively affected giving behavior. Employing a series of MANOVA, one-way ANOVA and sheffe's multiple range test, this study found that there were significant effects of age, marital status, monthly income, and monthly clothing expenses on giving and donating behaviors. This study suggests that fashion firms should be aware of clothing disposition in terms of social and environmental concerns and understand diverse consumer disposal behaviors and utilize them as a social marketing strategy.

  • Since environmental problems were globalized, discussions on 'Sustainable Development' started from Rio Declaration on Environment and Development(Rio Agenda 21). In Korea, the idea of 'Green Growth' was introduced and generalized since the celebration speech made on 8.15(Independence Day of South Korea) on 2008. And Low Carbon- Green Growth Basic Law was established on 2010. There are 3 strategies and 10 sub-tasks to achieve green country-traffic and green revolution of life. Family resource management is capable of changing life style from energy wasty to ecologically green. The value of family resource management plays a critical role in changing the lifestyle through influencing the goal and standard setting. So, this study is aimed to suggest the green value and green way of life from the perspective of family resource management. Results are as follow. First, the green value is to change from 'material-oriented' to 'people-oriented'. The 'material-oriented value pursues pleasure from possessing, but the 'people-oriented' value pursues pleasure from being itself. Second, the change from the value of 'human-mastery of the nature' to the value of 'mother -nature' is necessary. The value of 'human-mastery of the nature' seeks pleasure from the velocity and tangible outcome. But the value of 'mother- nature' seeks pleasure from the time to relax and slow way of life. 'Third, the change from the value of 'individualism' to the value of 'community sprit' is necessary. Individualism focuses on man's achievement, which may fall into family egoism. And the green way of life suggests the change from 'results-oriented' to 'enjoy the process itself", from 'consumption' to 'ecological restoration' and from 'work to home and then home to community'.

  • Since the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Report was published in 2005, the conflict between development and the preservation of the ecological environment has turned to paying attention to value assessments in rational decision-making. In recent years, the concept of ecosystem services has been recognized as a viable one for making significant decisions. However, a trade-off between increase and decrease occurs between the ecosystem services sub-categories (cultural service, regulating service, supporting service, and provisioning service), for which research centering on target sites is needed. To this end, the present study aims to investigate the trade-off relationship between service categories to search for reasonable decision-making strategies. As the research method, a survey was conducted using the translated version of SoIVES(Social Value for Ecosystem Services) 3.0 questionnaire of the United States Geological Survey. The research findings demonstrate the economic value, based on the derived monetary value of each service category, the economic value of the target site was compared among landscape aesthetic value 8,050,000 won, recreation value 6,750,000 won, biodiversity value 4,610,000 won, healing value 3,970,000 won, life-sustaining value 2,090,000 won, and productive value 220,000 won. And then the primarily recognized value criteria of the Tancheon ecosystem services illustrate landscape aesthetic and recreation value. Besides, this study illustrates visualized trade-off relationships based on user perception, and the derived relations illustrate the trade-off relationship between the cultural service, regulating service, supporting service, and provisioning service, as well as relationships between the components of the sub-categories.

The second purpose was to examine the change in the perception and management behaviors related to credit cards according to the types of shopping value. The third purpose was to examine the effects of shopping value on perception and management behaviors on credit cards. The data were collected from 392 college students in Seoul by a self-administered questionnaire. Analyses including frequency, mean, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation analysis, Crosstabulation analysis, analysis of variance, K-means Cluster analysis and Multiple linear regression were conducted using SPSS WIN12.0. The major findings were as follows. First, college students can be categorized into 3 types of shopping values by K-means Cluster analysis of 14 items. The groups were entitled the hedonistic shopping value, the utilitarian shopping value, and the saving shopping value. Second, positive perception and management behaviors related to credit cards were different depending on the types of shopping value. The hedonistic shopping value group had a higher level of positive perception of credit cards and a lower level of credit card management, compared with the other groups. The saving shopping value group had higher levels of both positive perception and management of credit cards. Among the three groups, the utilitarian shopping group had the lowest level of positive perception of credit cards, despite having ahigher level of credit card management. Lastly, the most effective variance on credit card management was the utilitarian shopping value. These results suggest that a healthy shopping value is very important for having a healthy perception and management of credit cards, because shopping value is a critical variance to affect perception and management of credit cards.
