The purpose of this paper is to prepare the department creation and the staff increase of education institution by forecasting the demand of health and welfare workers according to execution of the elderly's long-terms treatment insurance system in July, 2008. We estimated confirmors of the elderly's long-terms treatment and the demand of professional workers of health and welfare field due to the increase of care insurance users in facilities treatment organization, care at home service facilities, and family allowance facilities for 2010-2030. The numbers of social welfare professional worker are estimated as 16,624 workers in 2020 and 24,688 workers in 2030. The numbers of nurses are forecasted as 11.287 in 2020 and 16,624 in 2030, we expect that the increase of the demand be accelerated. The demand of necessary care probation worker is 44,824 in 2009, but we already trained over around 500,000 workers in 1,078 education institutions through one year in Aug. 31, 2009, which excesses over the numbers of workers demanded as much as 10 times.
This study examined the current status of foodservice management in elderly welfare facilities and evaluated food service workers' food safety practices and knowledge. For this, the directors of 20 elderly welfare facilities (each with fewer than 50 residents) located in Seoul were interviewed and a survey of 40 foodservice workers was conducted to determine their food safety knowledge and practices. The facilities accommodated an average of 28 residents. All the facilities were self-operated and approximately 62% were dependent on payments by residents. Only 15% had a dietitian in charge of menu planning, food purchasing, and food safety management. Approximately 50% had their facility managers take responsibilities for menu planning and food safety management. Most of the facilities provided food safety training within their own facility and sanitized their utensils, cutting boards, and dishcloths on a daily basis. A limited number of foodservice workers, insufficient training programs, and budget constraints were some of the major barriers to food safety management. Their average score on food safety practices was 1.62, and that on food safety knowledge was 17.6 out of 19 points. These results indicate that the foodservice workers had good food safety knowledge and appropriate food safety practices. There was a significant correlation only between food safety practices related to receiving and storing food products and knowledge of personal hygiene.
This study analyzes the turnover intention of social workers, then finds the way to lower the turnover intention. The survey result of the proportion of the respondents who have turnover intention appeared to be higher in the workers in use facilities and subordinate facilities. As for the reason of turnover intention, the proportion who answered 'poor working environment' and 'low wage level' appeared to be higher in the workers in life facilities and use facilities. As for the desired field of turnover, thus telling that they prefer to change jobs within the same field of social welfare rather than challenging new field. The result from this study suggests that, to lower the turnover intention of social workers, there should be more effort to increase wage level, reduce work hour, expand welfare benefit program and diversify self development and training programs.
