Seafarers play an important role in shipping and logistics. However, seafarers are relatively vulnerable to mental illness because they have to board ships for a considerable period of time and work in isolation. In particular, in the pandemic situation caused by COVID-19, the crew change is delayed due to the closure of many ports around the world, increasing the mental burden on seafarers. The mental health management of the crew is important because these mental problems can lead to major accidents of lives and ships. This paper identified the necessity of mental health management of seafarers through a survey and identified problems with the currently operated mental health management program and curriculum. Especially, this study proposed VR-based programs to help crews receive mentally counseling treatment in a timely manner and to reduce the mental burden on them by preventing sensitive personal information exposure. Through this, it is expected to contribute to the stable development of the logistics industry by establishing a safe seafarers working environment.
In the field of construction work, a shackle is one of the most essential tools to build up a structure on the foundation. The old-style process, 3 construction crew climbs up the beam to release it from the shackle, is hazardous and very inefficient. For this reason, the auto shackle controller with two shackles, which can release the beam through a wire-less command, was developed. The auto-shackle controller makes the work safer and more efficient. However, the early auto-shackle controller itself was heavy and had some sorts of problems in safety and durability. Recently, the high efficient battery was developed. It makes develope a super miniaturized high performance auto shackle controller. In this paper, we analyze problems of early auto shackles and present the latest result of a super miniaturized auto-shackle controller.

Our status of off-shore stow-net fishery is in face with many difficult problems; the lack of fisherman by evading the 3-D occupation, the safety accident by unskilled crew and old type fishing system. In order to solve those problems, it is necessary to save the man power and ensure the safety of fishing work by the effective utilization of power and automatization of fishing gear system. This is consists of the side drum driven by main engine, the net hauler, the bow and stern capstan, jib crane etc. Therefore, we suggest the design on unification of power device of fishing gear system as follows; (1) fishing system by uni-hydraulic power and (2) fishing system by electric motor and electro-hydraulic power.

In recent years, shipboard noise control is attracting increasing attention to human environmental conditions and crew's opportunity for rest and recreation with work on board. In order to minimize the noise levels, careful attention have to be paid by the experts from initial design stage to the delivery. This paper describes the outlines of shipboard noise control including general characteristics of shipboard noise, measurement, evaluation, prediction, and control measures considering the noise transmission mechanism from source to receiver space.

An expert system for a ship medical manager is presented in this paper where it si planned to improve the medical environment of the crew. The proposed system includes a information retrieval system that is based on the knowledge database organizing important experiences of first-aiders and is intended to be used effectively by the inexpert member. Moreover, this system of which the purpose is to computerize the medical work of each ship medical manager that the third officer give an affirmative guide for the execution of their duty from the medical treatment database of the disease occurring frequently on many crews.

The analyses of the aircraft accidents across all of the world, including Korea, reported that 70 % of the accidents could be attributed to the faults of pilots' human factors. It implied that the aircraft accidents could be cut down remarkably if the pilots' faults were reduced. In this context, the purpose of the study were to explore and reduce the problems of authoritarian job performance in the cockpit operation of which mainly depended on the captain, though it was supposed that two or more pilots work together as a team. In relation to this, the current worldwide trend of pilot education had tended to emphasize education on the human factors of pilots since the strong recommendation of the International Civil Aviation Organization in the 1980's. From the educational dimension of the pilots, it was attempted to explore a new educational perspective which would enhance the flight crew's performance of the cockpit through improving the courses of the pilot education curriculum and the teaching-learning methods.

The use of Japanese stylish terms in the Korean fishing vessels has been overdoing. It becomes a reason of preventing the communications between crews who have been working for many years and the beginners who newly work for the ships. Also the experienced crews cannot easily understand the contents of the texts and manuals for marine ship's machinery because the terms explained in the books are very different from those they always speak in the ships. It is reasonable to expel Japanese stylish terms from the vessel if possible to enable free communications to each other. I inspected and examined about 122 Japanese stylish terms that is spoken in the engineering part of the fishing vessels. So, I expect this paper is a basic research for the eradication of the Japanese stylish terms in the Korean fishing vessels.
Stainless steel 304 or stainless steel 630 types using propeller shaft of a small ship or a FRP fishing boat generally restrain localization corrosion and abrasion damage occurrence to shaft bearing or grand packing contact. In general, the residual stress which remains after welding or heat treatment in material can cause the stress concentration or localization corrosion. In case of small ship, stainless steel such as STS304 has long been used for propeller shaft. Meanwhile, crew of small ship tend to reuse damaged propeller shaft after repair by welding and performing heat treatment to save cost. However, it was found that reused propeller shaft by repair often caused troubles in ship's operation. In this study, the basic guideline for maintenance and treatment of propeller shaft are investigated. From the results of investigation, remarkable deterioration of the material properties and corrosion resistance on the welded work part was observed.

FPD Stocker System 은 LCD 를 포함한 평판 디스플레이 소자(FPD : Flat Panel Display)의 자동 자재 저장 반출 장치(FPD Automated Storage and Retrieval System)이다.
In this paper, presented was the research work of finding practical application systems using IT that would be adopted by the next generation high speed train for the safety, convenience, and comfort of the passengers and crew members. Study on the applications using smart sensors and IT brought up 26 feasible application cases. Among them 16 cases were related with IT applications and 10 cases smart sensor applications. After having public hearings and surveys to make the decision more objective and generally acceptable, 7 applications - such as information providing service using personal LCD monitor, alarm service, individual internet access service, automatic and remote air conditioning, wireless visual communication with an attendant, extraordinary sound detection, urgent situation in toilet monitoring - out of those 26 were chosen as the final applications.
