This study aimed to analyze the anti-termite properties of tamanu (Calophyllum inophyllum L.) stem bark extracts against subterranean termites, specifically, Coptotermes curvignathus. The bark powder of C. inophyllum was extracted using different solvents, such as n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol, using the maceration method. Anti-termite testing was performed using two paper disc methods: no- and two-choice tests. Whatman test paper was dripped with the extract solutions at concentrations of 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% (w/v). Subsequently, the treated paper disc was placed into an acrylic tube, and the subterranean termite was added. The parameters utilized in the test included termite mortality and the weight loss of the test paper. The results revealed that the total extract yield of C. inophyllum stem bark was 30.24%. Furthermore, the extractive substances from C. inophyllum bark exhibited anti-termite activity. The most favorable outcomes were obtained with the n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts at a concentration of 10%. The termite mortality and weight loss of the test paper were respectively 66% and 5.67% for the n-hexane extract and 66.67% and 6.19% for the ethyl acetate extract. In addition, the n-hexane extract contained friedelan-3-one, while the ethyl acetate extract contained 1,2-benzene dicarboxylic acid, dinonyl ester, and friedelan-3-one. The results suggested that these compounds are responsible for the observed anti-termite activity.
The EtOAc and $H_2O$ soluble fractions of Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum Sieb. Et Zucc) bark extracts were chromatographed on a Sephadex LH-20 column with various aqueous MeOH. Gallic acid (1), methyl galate (2), kurigalin (3), 1,2,3,6-tetra-O-galloyl-${\beta}$-D-glucose (4) and 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-${\beta}$-D-glucose (5) were isolated from EtOAc fraction. Isocorilagin (6) and methyl galate (2) were separated from $H_2O$ fraction. The structure determination was done by $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR. Of these isolated compounds, methyl galate (2), kurigalin (3) and isocorilagin (6) were isolated, for the first time, from the bark extracts of Cercidiphyllum japonicum.
Candida albicans is a dermal fungus of the human body that is known to cause oral candidiasis, vaginal candidiasis, and bloodstream infections in immunocompromised people or in certain environmental conditions. As cases of strains resistant to antifungal agents in C. albicans have been reported, studies using plant materials as safe antifungal agents are being actively conducted. In this study, a total of 17 edible plant extracts showed antifungal activity against C. albicans as a result of evaluating a 280-plant extract library using paper disk diffusion method. Among them, the four extracts with the strongest antifungal activity (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamomi Ramulus, Magnoliae Cortex, and Syzygii Flos) were selected and evaluated for synergistic antifungal activity against C. albicans. The combination of Magnoliae Cortex and Syzygii Flos showed a synergistic activity. The antifungal activity was evaluated based on the concentrations of magnolol and eugenol, the respective components of Magnoliae Cortex and Syzygii Flos. Magnolol and eugenol showed synergistic antifungal activities at the concentration ratio of 1:25 - 1:61. The antifungal activity of these two compounds contributes 28 to 48% to the synergistic antifungal activity of the combination of Magnoliae Cortex and Syzygii Flos extract. In this study, we propose that a combination of Magnoliae Cortex and Syzygii Flos can effectively inhibit the growth of C. albicans and that magnolol and eugenol are the responsible inhibitory compounds.
Many studies on plant extracts have been reported for the treatment of candidiasis caused by Candida albicans, a representative fungal infection. This study demonstrates the synergistic antifungal activity of the combination of Phellodendri Cortex and Magnoliae Cortex, previously reported to have antifungal efficacy. Considering the antifungal efficacy and the separation of the active constituents, berberine and magnolol, hot water extraction and carbon dioxide supercritical extraction were selected for Phellodendri Cortex and Magnoliae Cortex, respectively. A combination of 0.55 g/L hot water extract of Phellodendri Cortex and 0.59 g/L carbon dioxide supercritical extract of Magnoliae Cortex showed synergistic antifungal activity. The synergistic antifungal activity of 160 μM berberine and 100 μM magnolol, which are representative antifungal compounds of Phellodendri Cortex and Magnoliae Cortex, respectively, contributes to the synergistic antifungal effect of their extracts. The additive decrease in cellular ergosterol level and the increased antifungal efficacy by extracellular ergosterol suggest that disruption of the biological function of ergosterol in the cell membrane is not responsible for the synergistic antifungal activity of berberine and magnolol. Synergistic cellular release of chromosomal DNA upon mixing berberine and magnolol indicates that disruption of the cellular structure is responsible for the synergistic antifungal effect of berberine and magnolol.

This study was performed to compare effect of anticancer activities on Rhodiola sachalinensis by ultrasonifi-cation process and solvent. Compared the yield to the water extracts (WE), wafer extracts with ultrasonification (WEU) at60, loot and ethyl alcohol extracts (EE), ethyl alcohol extracts with ultrasonification (EEU) at 60 ${\circ}$C from Rhodiola sachalinensis. Experimental studies were progressed through the anticancer activities such as cell cytotoxicity, inhibition activities of cell growth. The cell cytotoxicity using human embryonic kidney cell (HEK293) was showed cytotoxicity of below 26.26%by extracts of Rhodiola sachalinensis in 1.0 mg/ml concentration, The anticancer activities were increased in over 70% by extracts of Rhodiola sachalinensis in A549, AGS, Hep3B and MCF-7 cells. From the results, the extract Rhodiola sachalinensis were showed useful anticancer activities.
The aim of this study was to attempt the efficacy of antifungal activity of the wood extracts against Botrytis grey mold. Wood chip derived from Quercus mongolica was obtain from steam explosion process and extracted by hot water and methanol and ethanol. The conidial germination was maximum growth with the application temperature for 20 and $25^{\circ}C$. In pH test, we observed the maximum growth in pH 5.0 and 7.0. Antifungal activity was the best in the hot water extractives against Botrytis cinerea. The separation of the antifungal substances was performed using a silica-gel column (n-hexane : chloroform : ethyl acetate : formic acid = 12 : 17 : 8 : 0.2, v/v/v/v), TLC and UV-Spectrophotometer, and isolated 6 fraction group. The result of antifungal activity in 6 fraction group, fraction group I and fraction group II were the highest antifungal activity against grey mold with the present study. Three peaks in fraction group I and II were detected by HPLC and this compounds were suppose to effective of antifungal activity.

This study was focused on the comparison of the variations in the yield and chemical composition of Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf oil obtained under different pressure conditions of the supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SCE), and by hydro-distillation. SCE was carried out varying the pressure in the range of 100~400 bar at $40^{\circ}C$. The chemical composition of C. obtusa leaf oils was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis. The maximum yield of 4.4% (relative to the initial mass of oven dry mass) was obtained in the extraction under 300 bar pressure, which was higher than that of the hydro-distillation method (1.9%). The contents of sesquiterpenes in the extracts obtained by the SCE were higher than those of the essential oils of C. obtusa by the hydro-distillation. The sesquiterpenes in the SCE extracts made up approximately 39%~46% of the total, followed by monoterpenes, diterpene, and lignan. The contents of each constituent in the supercritical carbon dioxide extracts were varied on the extraction pressure. Therefore, these results showed that the extraction condition of SCE had significant effect on the yield of C. obtusa oils and its chemical composition.
In this study, silk fabrics was dyed with sappan wood extracts fermented for 5 and 15 days, respectively, and then the dyeability, durability and the functionality of the dyed silk were investigated. Before dyeing, the silk was pretreated with chitosan-acetic acid solution or chitosan acetic acid and illite blend solution. Thereafter, UV-Visible transmittance, color, fastness, antimicrobial activity, and the FIR emissivity were analyzed. As a result, the K/S value was higher in the samples that were not pre-treated or fermented. Regardless of fermentation, the lightfastness was not significantly different. The color fastness to washing was slightly better when the samples were pretreated with chitosan-acetic acid and illite, and then dyed with extracts fermented 5 days. In addition, all samples showed high antimicrobial activity of 99.9%, regardless of the fermentation. Far-infrared emissivity was confirmed to be slightly increased by the illite and chitosan-acetic acid solution treatment compared to the untreated sample.
