  • There exist 5 wells drilled at the Yecheon hot spring area, the distance between the wells is about $159m{\sim}702.6m$. The safe yield of each well is controlled by interference drawdown between a pumping well and an observation well after pumping test. The well No. 2 and the well No. 5 are the closest, at the distance of 159 m; therefore interference drawdown between two wells was occurred considerably. The drawdown of the well No. 2 (an observation well) was 16.67 m; the drawdown of the well No. 5 (a pumping well) was 17.21 m. The degree of the interference is about 97% and the safe yield decreased from $750m^3/day\;to\;24m^3/day$. Significant interference between two wells is due to the fact that the aquifer has 1.5 dimensions.

  • A simulation-optimization model is developed for development of groundwater and control of a saltwater wedge for protecting over-exploiting freshwater pumping wells. To achieve the goal an objective function is developed for three types of wells: freshwater pumping, freshwater injection and saltwater pumping. Integrity of groundwater environment is accounted for by including three indices. Illustrative cross-sectional examples show that both types of barriers can protect freshwater pumping wells from saltwater intrusion. A barrier well operating at the same rate located anywhere within a certain reach can protect a pumping well. However, the location of the reach appears to contradict the common practice of barrier placements. Consideration of the groundwater environment yields a unique optimal location for barrier wells.

  • To evaluate the applicability of the construction method involving infilling CFT columns by pumping-up, a trial construction was done using 6 actual size test samples. The 12.8m-high test samples were similar to a four-story building scale. The pumping-up level was controlled at 12m. The test used two types of high performance concrete with $450kgf/cm^2$ standard design strength, and a concrete pump which is used domestically. The pressure changes in pipes or pump as well as the changes in concrete characteristics were measured during construction. in order to evaluate applicability. After the concrete hardened, the column was dismantled. The filled state of the concrete, concrete strength distribution according to column height, etc., were checked to evaluate the quality of the concrete, From the results, some basic data which characterize the pumping-up pressure were suggested. Also, the strength of hardened concrete as well as the filled state were proven to be acceptable ranges.

  • In this paper, the charge pump circuit of a VPP generator for a low voltage DRAM is newly proposed. The proposed charge pump is a 2-stage cross coupled charge pump circuit. The charge transfer efficiency is improved, and Distributed Clock Inverter is located in each charge pump stage to reduce clock period so that the pumping current is increased. In addition, the precharge circuit is located at Gate node of charge transfer transistor to solve the problem which is that the Gate node is maintained high voltage because the boosted charge can't discharge, so device reliability is decreased. The simulation result is that pumping current, pumping efficiency and power efficiency is improved. The layout of the proposed VPP generator is designed using $0.18{\mu}m$ Triple-Well process.

  • Parametric study was performed using the SCW numerical model for evaluating the performance of the SCW. The five ground related parameters, which are porosity, hydraulic conductivity, thermal conductivity, specific heat, geothermal gradient, and five SCW design parameters, which are pumping rate, well depth well diameter, dip tube diameter, bleeding rate, were used in the study. Numerical simulations were performed for short-term (24-hour) simulation. The study results indicate that the parameters that have important influence on the performance of SCW were hydraulic conductivity, thermal conductivity, geothermal gradient, pumping rate, and bleeding rate. Overall, this study showed that various factors had a cumulative influence on the performance of the SCW, and a numerical simulation can be used to accurately predict the performance of the SCW.

  • An aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) model is simulated by FEFLOW according to the scenario of heat pump operation in two layered confining aquifer. The scenario is consisted of 4 steps: 90 days pumping (west well) and waste water injection (east well: 35 $^{\circ}C$), 90 day s stop, 90days pumping (east well) and waste water injection (west well: 5 $^{\circ}C$), and 95 days stop. The injection of the waste water is limited in the second layer and the first layer is aquitard. The temperature distribution at the surface shows low difference with reference temperature and opposit aspect with that of the second layer because the thermal transition through the first layer is very slow. Even though the simulated thermal transition in the aquifer system have a difference with real ATES system, optimal design and operate system can be developed with field tests and operational experience.

  • The streamflow depletion due to groundwater pumping from deep aquifer near the Juksan stream has been simulated, in this study, by using the surface water and groundwater integrated model, SWAT-ODFLOW in order to analyze the relationship between the stream depletion and hydraulic properties of aquifer and streambed, and to spatially assess the streamflow depletion. The simulated results showed that the streamflow depletion rate divided by the pumping rate for each well location ranges from 10% to 90% with reflecting the various well-stream distance, transmissivity, storativity, and streambed hydraulic conductance. In particular, the streamflow depletion exceeds about 50% of pumping rate for conditions with transmissivity higher than $10m^2/day$ or storage coefficient lower than 0.1. The simulated results in the form of spatial maps indicated that the spatially averaged percent depletion of streamflow is about 53.6% for five years of pumping which is lower than that for shallow aquifer pumping by 12.9%. From the spatially distributed stream depletion, it was found that higher and more rapid stream depletion to pumping occurs near middle-downstream reach.

  • Pumping test was conducted to understand hydraulic conductivity for leaky confined aquifer with high permeability. Test aquifer was formed in $25{\sim}35\;m$ below ground surface at predetermined site of riverbank filtration which junction of Nakdong river and Milyang river in the Ttaan isle, Gimhae city, Korea Monitoring wells were located at intervals of 2 m and 5 m from pumping well in south-west direction (MW1 and MW2 wells) and northeast direction (MW3 and MW4 wells), respectively. Pumping test was continuously conducted for constant pumping rate of $2,500m^3/day$, hydraulic conductivity was estimated using AQTESOLV 3.5 program. Hydraulic conductivity were estimated to be $1.745{\times}10^{-3}m/sec$ for pumping well (PW), $2.452{\times}10^{-3}m/sec$ for between PW and MW1 wells, $2.161{\times}10^{-3}m/sec$ for between PW and MW2 wells, $2.270{\times}10^{-3}m/sec$ for between PW and MW3 wells and $2.591{\times}10^{-3}m/sec$ for between PW and MW4 wells. The function of hydraulic conductivity (K) as monitoring distance (d) were estimated to be logK = 0.0693logd - 2.671 for south-west direction (PW-MW1-MW2 line), logK = 0.0817logd - 2.655 for north-east direction (PW-MW3-MW 4 line). Scale exponent of hydraulic conductivity as test volume was estimated using Schulze-Makuch et al.(1999) method. Scale exponent of this aquifer was estimated to be 0.15. It means that test aquifer has very low heterogeneity. The radius of influence estimated using transmissivity, maximum groundwater level displacement, distance from pumping well and pumping rate during pumping test were 7.148 m for south-west direction and 6.912 m for north-east direction. The increasing rate of hydraulic conductivity from pumping well to maximum radius of influence were estimated to be 1.40 times for south-west direction and 1.49 times for north-east direction. Thus, heterogeneity of test aquifer was a little higher in north-east direction.

  • The green house on the waterfront is air-conditioned by a water-source heat pump system with riverbank filtration water. In order to supply riverbank filtration water in alluvium aquifer, the riverbank filtration facility for water intake and recharge, two pumping wells and one recharge well, has been constructed. The research site in Jinju, Korea was chosen as a good site for riverbank filtration water supply by the surface geological survey, electrical resistivity soundings, and borehole surveys. In the results of two boreholes drilling at the site, it was revealed that the groundwater table is about 3 m under the ground, and that the sandy gravel aquifer layer in the thickness of 6.5 m and 3.5 m occurs at 5 m and 7 m in depth below the ground level respectively. To prevent the recharge water from affecting the pumped water which might be used as heat source or sink, the distance between pumping and recharge wells is designed at least 70 m with a quarter of recharged flow rate. It is predicted that the transfer term, the recharge water affects the pumping well, is over 6 months of heating season. Hydrogeological simulation and underground water temperature measurement have been carried out for the pumping and recharge well positions in order to confirm the capability of sustainable green house heating and cooling.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the groundwater pumping capadty at a catchment area containing interrelated wells without considering their qualities by using numerical simulation in Miyake Island, young volcanic island with very complicated hydro-geological formations. The groundwater pumping capadties of each well and over entire study area were estimated as the IMY(i,t) by individual withdrawals and the SSMY(t) by simultaneous withdrawals. These results can be used to secure a sure source for taking a plan for supplying water use in young volcanic island as Miyake Island. In simultaneous withdrawals, the withdrawals from well no. 5 and 6 should have the roles as the barrier wells against the intrusion of the groundwater of the part adjacent to Tairo Pond into the inner part of study area. Therefore, it can be suggested to adopt the simultaneous withdrawals as the optimal approach of groundwater management for supplying water use with respect to quantity and quality.
