  • We demonstrate an acousto-optic mode converter based on a tapered optical fiber to efficiently generate orbital angular momentum states of light. In our scheme an acoustic wave is deployed to the waist of tapered optical fiber where two degenerate $HE_{21}$ modes leading to +1 and -1 orbital angular momentum eigen-modes are resonantly excited. The excitation of $TM_{01}$ and $TE_{01}$ modes is suppressed by enlarging the intermodal index difference between near-degenerate spatial modes. Numerical calculation for optimization of the taper diameter is provided. The experimental characterization of generated states is performed by analyzing the output far-field pattern and the spatial interference fringes with a uniform reference beam.

  • In this paper, w-band frequency synthesizer was developed for frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensors. To achieve a small size and high performance, We designed and manufactured w-band MMIC chips such as up-converter one-chip, multiplier, DA (Drive Amplifier) MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit), etc. And interposer technology was applied between the W-band multiplier and the DA MMIC chip. As a result, the measured phase noise was -106.10 dBc@1MHz offset, and the frequency switching time of the frequency synthesizer was less than 0.1 usec. Compared with the w-band frequency synthesizer using purchased chips, the developed frequency synthesizer showed better performance.

  • We have proposed a model of a thermal voltage converter(TVC) using the trans-impedance of lossy transmission line and developed a calculation program for ac-dc transfer difference of the TVC. The proposed TVC consists of a thermo-element(f) and a range resistor wire connected in series at the center of coaxial cylinder. The range resistor wire is used to extend the measurement range of the n. The calculated ac-dc transfer differences of the proposed TVC by simulation agree well with the measured values within the uncertainties. The simulated and measured values are agreed within $1{\mu}V/V$ from 40 Hz to 10kHz, within $5{\mu}V/V$ from 20kHz to 100MHz, and within $12{\mu}V/V$ from 200kHz to 1 MHz.

  • Recently, as the piezoelectric transformer technology develops, piezoelectric transformer may become a variable alternative to magnetic transformers in various applications. Because it was have to favorable characteristics such as electromagnetic-noise free, compact size, higher efficiency, and superior power density, linkage flux, noiseless, etc. its resonance frequency was used to output waveform of a sine wave. In this paper, the switching mode power supply of about 87.2[KHz] is driven by the multilayer thickness vibration mode piezoelectric transformer and the DC to DC converter drive circuit using an electrical equivalent circuit is proposed. Also, it was possible to drive power source device of the high-luminance LED by propose circuits.

  • Usually, much harmonics are included and cause harmonic loss of motor, torque pulsation, electro-magnetic noise and shock etc. by switching function of inverter when drive induction motor variableness inside. It applied partial resonant Buck converter and three phase voltage type SPWM inverter circuit to induction motor driving system in this paper that see to solve such problem. Changed operation condition variously to do input current of circuit that propose sine-wave by unit power factor almost and capacitor supplied bringing back to life voltage by power supply arranging properly assistance diode and electric power switching. Power factor and efficiency improved as that minimize variation of input at power supply voltage polarity reverse by that add voltage reversal function. Also, by using output filter, reduced harmonic of output line to line voltage components, and introduce state space analysis and forecast operation of rectifier. Such all items confirmed validity through simulation and an experiment.

  • This work describes an 8b 200 MHz 0.18 urn CMOS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) based on a pipelined architecture for flat panel display applications. The proposed ABC employs an improved bootstrapping technique to obtain wider input bandwidth than the sampling tate of 200 MHz. The bootstrapuing technique improves the accuracy of the input sample-and-hold amplifier (SHA) and the fast fourier transform (FFT) analysis of the SHA outputs shows the 7.2 effective number of bits with an input sinusoidal wave frequency of 500 MHz and the sampling clock of 200 MHz at a 1.7 V supply voltage. Merged-capacitor switching (MCS) technique increases the sampling rate of the ADC by reducing the number of capacitors required in conventional ADC's by 50 % and minimizes chip area simultaneously. The simulated ADC in a 0.18 um n-well single-poly quad-metal CMOS technology shows an 8b resolution and a 73 mW power dissipation at a 200 MHz sampling clock and a 1.7 V supply voltage.

  • In a conventional DC power supply used for CO2 laser, the circuit elements such as a rectifier bridge, a current-limiting resistor, a high voltage switch, energy storage capacitors ans a high-voltage isolation transformer using high turn ratio are necessary. Consequently, those supplies are expensive and require a large space. Thus, laser resonator and power supply should be optimally designed. In this paper, we propose a new power supply using high frequency resonance phenomena for CW(Continuous wave) CO2 laser (maximum output of 23W with discharge length of 450mm). It consists of a transformer including leakage inductance, magnetizing inductance and half-bridge converter, a three-stage Cockcroft-Walton and PFC(Power factor correction) circuit. The output ripple voltage can be controlled the minimum of 0.24% under the high frequency switching of 231kHz. Furthermore, the output efficiency was improved to 16.4% and the laser output stability of about 5.6% was obtained in this laser system.

  • This paper presents a novel soft-switching PWM utility frequency AC to high frequency AC power conversion circuit Incorporating boost-half-bridge inverter topology, which is more suitable and acceptable for cost effective consumer induction heating applications. The operating principle and the operation modes are presented using the switching mode and the operating voltage and current waveforms. The performances of this high-frequency inverter using the latest IGBTs are illustrated, which includes high frequency power regulation and actual efficiency characteristics based on zero voltage soft switching (ZVS) operation ranges and the power dissipation as compared with those of the previously developed high-frequency inverter. In addition, a dual mode control scheme of this high frequency inverter based on asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) and pulse density modulation (PDM) control scheme is discussed in this paper in order to extend the soft switching operation ranges and to improve the power conversion efficiency at the low power settings. The power converter practical effectiveness is substantially proved based on experimental results from practical design example.
