Mechanical Properties of Polyethylene/Polypropylene/Waste Tire Rubber Powder Composites (폴리에틸렌/폴리프로필렌/폐타이어고무분말 복합체의 기계적 특성)

  • To recycle the waste tire rubber powder, rubber powder composite for waterproof sheet was prepared, and analyzed the effect of the kind of resin and the amount of crosslinking agent on the mechanical property of the composites. The elongation-at-break of the PE composite increased more than 3 times as EPDM was added into rubber composites. As the content of the crosslinking agent increased, the tensile strength of composite increased as well. When recycled polypropylene was used, the increase in composite's tensile strength was more than 3 times. Therefore to use the recycled PP in composite is more effective rather than PP in term mechanical properties.

  • Treatment for water repellency on the carbon supports of GDL which composed a part of MEA has been suggested as a solution to prevent flooding. PTFE is a fluoropolymer that has hydrophobic property and a PTFE emulsion was selected as waterproof agent in this investigation. Carbon paper was coated by PTFE emulsion with different particle size of 5~500 nm and 3~$5\;{\mu}m$ as various concentration. PTFE coated carbon paper has difference in weight variation changed proportionally at PTFE concentration and coating times. Then gas permeability of the coated carbon paper with emulsion of 3~$5\;{\mu}m$ PTFE was changed vastly. Characteristics of carbon paper coated with different PTFE emulsion were analyzed by FE-SEM, FT-IR spcetroscopy and were evaluated by weight variations, gas permeability and water contact angle.

  • For nuclear concrete structures on the coast, the prevention and management against salt damage is needed because they are being under the influence of the sea water at all times. In general, the deterioration of the concrete is generated in concrete surface firstly and then extended into concrete gradually as its service life increases. Therefore, the protective layer on the concrete surface is needed to establish and manage the durability of concrete. To enhance the durability performance of the existing and new concrete, the development and application of a high-performance penetration sealer is needed. The sealer has to have the functions that are able to prevent the attack of the moisture, carbon dioxide, and harmful substance from the outside. Therefore, the aim of this project is to guarantee the long service-life and waterproof performance of a nuclear concrete structures by increasing the density of the existing and new concrete surface layer, and to enhance the dust-proof performance of the uncoating part of the nuclear safety-relative structures.

  • The Green Lamp Fixture (GLF) of LED prepared with thin panel structure was investigated for illumination of street lamps and other lighting system uses, which was also very useful to aquaculture and aquafarm lighting uses, or fish luring lights and marine aquanautics of aquamarinautics (aquamarine+aquanautics) uses, etc. In the case of fish luring lights, it was verified that the fish luring of Green Lamp Fixture of LED was very effective for phototaxis movement and ecological community promotion to the micro-living things of organisms and the small fries and fishes, like as 'crowding together'. For the aquaculture lightings, it was also very excellent in waterproof and heat-sink properties, photosynthetic growing of algae and micro-organisms, water-weeds and seaweeds living underwater.

  • Underwater sensor networks (USN) for ocean development and disaster prevention have been emerged as one of interesting research topics recently. Since a high-speed and inexpensive communication modem is a prerequisite for deployment of USN, we design and implement an underwater modem by utilizing general-purpose waterproof ultrasonic sensors in this paper. We also make experiments in indoor and outdoor environment with two modems facing each other to conduct a point-to-point communication. According to the experiments, we can achieve the data rates of 1.5 kbps in a water tank and 2 kbps in a pond. Also, the maximum communication distance between two modems is about 30 meters. Besides, we conduct a point-to-multipoint experiment imitating USN by deploying a gateway, a sink node and three sensor nodes in a water tank.

  • We have been using Moisture Barrier Bags for dry packing of semiconductor packages to prevent moisture from absorbing during shipping. Moisture barrier bag material is required to be waterproof, vapor proof and offer superior ESD (Electro-static discharge) and EMI shielding. Also, the bag should be formed easily to the shape of products for vacuum packing while providing excellent puncture resistance and offer very low gas & moisture permeation. There are some problems like pinholes and punctured bags after sealing and before the surface mount process. This failure may easily result in package pop corn crack during board mounting. The bags should be developed to meet the requirements of excellent electrical and physical properties by means of optimization of their raw material composition and their thickness. This study investigates the performance of moisture barrier bags by characterization of their mechanical endurance, tensile strength and through thermal analysis. By this study, we arrived at a robust material composition (polyester/Aluminate) for better packing.

The Experimental Study on the Impact Sound Insulation Floors due to Waste Tire Chip (폐타이어 칩의 바닥충격음 차단성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study aims to present proper thickness of resilient mount and pattern of chips for the improvement of impact sound isolation. To achieve this aim, field tests were performed to evaluate the performance of impact sound isolation of pilot samples using waste tire chips against light and heavy-weight impacter, which samples were installed over concrete slabs of an apartment housing. In this study, the experiments were performed by the impact sound level of floors in KS F 2810 "Method for field measurement of floor impact level". As results, a flooring structure using waste tire chips as a resilient mount, with no relation to chip's types, has enhanced performance by 1~2 degree in light impact sound isolation, while it has improvement in heavy impact sound isolation. And fiber-type chips have better performance than granule-type ones when they overlaid concrete slab with 15~20 mm of thickness. For the improvement of impact sound isolation, it is recommended that insulating materials should be applied at joints between floating floors and walls, or floating floors and a doorframes, and also waterproof papers should be used for the effective thickness of resilient mount.ent mount.

  • In this paper, a development of a new 5 d.o.f. underwater manipulator which is actuated by electric motors capable of carrying over 20kg payload and of various operation under the water has been studied. The manipulator for applying to midium-sized AUV or ROV has been designed small and light but to handle a heavy 25kg payload. The joint actuator for the manipulator is designed and builted as a new modular typed double oil jacket for waterproofness. Also, superior joint torque performance of the developed joint actuator has been varified through tests in the air. And, a 5 d.o.f. highly perfomable underwater manipulator has been builted applying the developed underwater joint actuators.

  • In this paper, traditional residential architecture in South Korea appear to approach environmental regulation as part of ecological architecture of regional climate controlled environment, according to the characteristics and spatial arrangement, and material to the environment was described as a controlled manner. The scope of this study was not large scale housing construction from traditional chusagotaek, yunjeunggotaek, yangjindang, dokrakdang target was the case. Focusing on examples extracted from Korea first eco-friendly characteristics of traditional residential architecture is an extension of nature to explore space and yard space, and South Korea by way of environmental control that appears in traditional architecture, waterproof, moisture, solar radiation, sunlight, ventilation and air Attributes such as environmental regulation and environmental regulation of space, place and manner of materials were described. Korea's research through more traditional residential architecture of the environmental control and a wide range of environmentally friendly eco-construction was that appeared natural to use energy efficiently, it had been available.   • This paper is mainly concerned with the development of a remotely operated vehicle for investigation of the coastal sea. For this, we have designed and constructed a vehicle entitled KMU-ROV(Korea Maritime University Remotely Operated Vehicle), for purpose of investigation mission under 50(m) of the sea surface. We have designed six independent waterproof actuators and the housing of the controller for underwater operation. For six degree-of-freedom motion, we have analyzed the dynamics of the KMU-ROV and have designed a new composition of six actuators including the driving system. For motion control, we have composed a concurrent velocity control algorithm for controlling the speed of all the actuating motors. The control system for the KMU-ROV is composed of a master DSP controller, DSP controller for the motor control and various sensors. We composed the PID control algorithm and a network system for controlling motors using the CAN communication. The performance of the KMU-ROV was presented by testing the developed control algorithm and control system under the water.
