  • We investigated fault current limitation characteristics of the resistive superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) which consisted of a Bi-2212 bulk coil and a shunt coil. The Bi-2212 bulk coil and the shunt coil were connected in parallel. The Bi-2212 bulk coil was placed inside the shunt coil to induce field-assisted quench. The fault test was conducted at an input voltage of 200 $V_{rms}$ and fault current of 12 $kA_{rms}$ and 25 $kA_{rms}$. The fault conditions were asymmetric and symmetric, and the fault period was 5 cycles. The test results show that the SFCL successfully limited the fault current of 12 $kA_{rms}$ and 25 $kA_{rms}$ to below $5.5{\sim}6.9kA_{peak}$ within $0.64{\sim}2.17$ msec after the fault occurred. Limitation was faster under symmetric fault test condition due to the larger change rate of current. We concluded that the speed of fault current limitation was determined by the speed of current rise rather than the amplitude of a short circuit current. These results show that the Bi-2212 bulk coil is suitable for distribution-class SFCLs.

  • AC to DC single phase PWM converter for traction application requires rated high power and voltage. Therefor, series or parallel operation converters are necessary with considering the limitation of the power device specification. This paper compares the characteristic between two parallel operation of conventional PWM converter and Single phase three level converter about comparison of power circuit, cooling system control method and harmonic current by computer simulation.

  • In practice, not only the load current but also the load voltage may contain asymmetric and harmonic components. Instantaneous power using p-q theory is analyzed to have compensation of reactive power, harmonics and asymmetry at the same time. In this paper, the limitation of p-q theory by using only shunt or series active filter is analyzed. A new scheme is proposed to solve the above issues.

  • Recently, the power load is growing larger and because of the environmental limitation of generation, the expansion of generation facilities are becoming more difficult. For that reason the importance of the demand-side resources come to be higher. One method of the demand-side resource, the DLC Program, has executed, and moreover, the loads which are available to be controlled are increasing. It should be considered of some kinds of power system components such as DLCs, because the fact that using the demand resources will be an important part of the power system. This paper considers the power factor of the load-bus which is shedded in the direct load control program. and then analyze the power system using flow sensitivity and voltage sensitivity. In this paper, we assumed two scenarios through the rank of the load power factor at each bus and to compare and evaluate each case, we used Power World for the simulation.

  • Higher frequency of energy transfer or at least energy conversion has to be used in order to reduce the size of inductors and capacitors required in the power supplies. Conventional PWM switching-mode power supplies have a limitation of operating frequency due to switching losses in the switching transistors and rectifier diodes. Means of reducing switching losses have been developed for high-frequency resonant amplifiers or more exactly dc/ac inverters. Because of smooth current and voltage waveforms resonant convertesrs havelower device switching losses and stresses lower electromagnetic interference(EMI) and lower noise than PWM converters. Therefore in this paper design equations of Classs E resonant low dv/dt rectifier with a series resonant capacitor drived using Fourier series techniques. The theory is compared with simulation results obtained for the rectifier operating at 10[MHz] ac input and 5[V] coutput.

  • The electrical reliability of the power generation and distribution system of Floating Liquefied Natural Gas vessels has been analyzed according to the operating modes using Electrical Transient Analysis Program in this paper. Electricity is used for the topside processes, cargo pumps for off-loading, thrusters for heading control and marine equipment. It is very important to improve the safety, efficiency, and stability of the electrical power system for successful operation. The voltage variation of the high and the low voltage bus shall be within the primitive limitation range at normal operation loads both in steady state and in the transient state. The power system was simulated and compared with class rule for design verification.

Voltage problems can arise from Ferranti effect as unloaded transmission line is reenergized. This Paper presents system analyser to develop for verifying the primary restorative transmission system. The algorithm which has been used in the analyser is to handle load pick-up compensating Ferranti effect. and terminal voltage and reactive capability limitation of black-start generators about self-excitation.

  • In this paper, the on-line volt/var control algorithms of the Load Tap Changer (LTC) transformer and Shunt Capacitor (SC) are proposed for distribution volt/var compensation. In the existing volt/var control of the distribution substation, the feeder voltage and reactive power demand of the distribution are mainly controlled by the LTC transformer tap position and on/off operation of the Sc. It is very difficult to maintain volt/var at the distribution networks within the satisfactory levels due to the discrete operation characteristics of the LTC and SC. In addition, there is the limitation of the LTC and SC operation times, which affects their functional lifetimes. The proposed volt/var control algorithm determines an optimal tap position of the LTC and on/off status of the SC at a distribution substation with multiple connected feeders. The mathematical equations of the proposed method are introduced. A simple case study is performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Comparison of three converter topologies for single phase switched reluctance motor is proposed in this paper. Due to the limitation of do-link voltage, conventional asymmetric converter is difficult to build up enough phase current in the high speed operation. In order to solve this problem, boost converter is used to improve the performance. Two active boost converters are reviewed: one is series-connected type, another is parallel-connected. Otherwise, a novel active boost converter is proposed. The comparison of these converters is based on the voltage raring of capacitor, stability and converter topology. Because the converter selection depends on the motor design, the single phase 6/6 SRM is considered in this paper. Some simulations results are executed. And the results verified the analysis in this paper.
