  • This paper describes a visualization technique that animates geometrical defect data that are extracted using a magnetic flux leakage (MFL) operating system on nondestructive evaluation (NDE). Since data are collected from different locations and often not regular, the data must be converted to the standard format that is used within the pipeline in visualization procedures. In order to navigate inside of the pipeline, 3D virtual objects are generated and are able to explore the pipeline continuously. The major objectives of this paper are to characterize, generate general shape of defects, and enable computer interaction in virtual environment. Pipeline navigation system (PNS) has introduced the framework for interactive visual applications based upon the principles of modeling 3D objects. PNS presents some preliminary efforts to enable the user to interact human and computer with each other.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze traditional stereo images (stereopsis), and study electronic methods to create stereo images using computer graphics technology on visualization of computer. Computer system can process image data and show results on its display. In the early days of computer era, most scientific research data was printed on paper as a procession of digits. These days, the visualization of computer graphics has a precise and realistic quality in its imaging technology. Some technological advances have been developed to not only display 2-dimensional geometry but also 3-dimensional stereo images to simulate virtual reality. In this study, [ have discussed the history of stereopsis, principles of stereo images and technological developments. Also I analyzed the components of stereo images, optical and electronic methods and visual systems which are used in computer graphics technology. I developed my own theories on possibilities for new methods of 3-dimensional stereo images.

  • Software industry still has many deep-seated problems. As a natural consequence, it may have to learn from best practices in more mature industry like manufacturing. An example is 'lean' software development which is defined as translation of 'lean manufacturing' principles to the software development domain. The principles include 'eliminate waste' and 'amplify learning.' It was much asserted that these principles are worth applying. Not much study, however, was done on how to practically implement these principles into software development practice. In this study we attempt to present a method in which project lead time and software defects are regarded as major targets of management and are visualized using Cumulative Flow Diagram. We further applied this method on actual projects. The result confirms that agile is positively effective on reducing wastes.

  • To achieve the advertising objectives, we must first draw out consumer's advertisingto advertising, and then realize the data processing course from comprehension to the retention of the advertising contents. In current media environment, however, the value of advertising as the method of attracting consumer's attention is declining due to the current situation of newspaper and magazine advertising as follows. As for newspapers, competitive messages are increasing on a continuous basis; the size of advertising section and the number of newspaper pages has been increased along with the popularization of color advertising. As for magazines, more pages are allocated for advertising rather than for the actual contents. In such communication environment, it is believed that only the advertising capable of uniquely appealing to consumers can achieve the purpose of advertising. Hence, this research attempts to discuss the effective ways of promoting attention in print media through the case studies covering the design principles relating to layout and the layout format, among the visualization processes related to the consumers'memory.

  • As modem web services become enormously complex, web attacks has become frequent and serious. Existing security solutions such as firewalls or signature-based intrusion detection systems are generally inadequate in securing web services, and analysis of raw web log data is simply impractical for most organizations. Visual display of "interpreted" web logs, with emphasis on anomalous web requests, is essential for an organization to efficiently track web usage patterns and detect possible web attacks. In this paper, we discuss various issues related to effective real-time visualization of web usage patterns and anomalies. We implemented a software tool named SAD (session anomaly detection) Viewer to satisfy such need and conducted an empirical study in which anomalous web traffics such as Misuse attacks, DoS attacks, Code-Red worms and Whisker scans were injected. Our study confirms that SAD Viewer is useful in assisting web security engineers to monitor web usage patterns in general and anomalous web sessions in particular.articular.

  • Since elementary students are in the concrete operational stages, they have to learn mathematics using intuitive methods such as visualization, observation, operation, experiment instead of formal approach. For this, we should present the various intuitive methods in curriculum and textbook. It is because that curriculum and textbook are important tools to students when they study mathematics. So, this paper intended to analyze the instructional content by intuitive principle in elementary mathematics curriculum, textbook and curriculum guide. The results are as follows: there is an intuitive principle in only character of mathematics in curriculum. I can't find the intuitive principle in other areas in curriculum. There are 12 intuitive principles in figures area, 1 in measurement area, and 2 in probability and statistics area in curriculum guide. But intuitive principles which are used are inclined to restricted to intuitive principle via representation obtained in the usual experience. Finally, I suggest some implications about teaching via intuitive principles, curriculum, and writing textbook based on the this findings.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation tool for map-based data visualization platforms and to conduct heuristic usability evaluations on existing platforms representing inter-regional information. We compared and analyzed the usability evaluation criteria of map-based platforms from the previous studies along with Nielsen's (1994) 10 usability evaluation principles. We proposed nine evaluation criteria, including (1) visibility, (2) representation of the real world, (3) consistency and standards, (4) user control and friendliness, (5) flexibility, (6) design, (7) compatibility, (8) error prevention and handling, and (9) help provision and documentation. Additionally, to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed criteria, four experts was invited to evaluate five domestic and international map-based data visualization platforms. As a result, the experts were able to rank the usability of the five platforms using the proposed map-based data visualization usability evaluation criteria, which included quantified scores and subjective opinions. The results of this study are expected to serve as foundational material for the future development and evaluation of map-based visualization platforms.

  • The issues of generation, delivery, and processing of information which have been treated importantly in information design field have evolved along with the evolution of the humankind. In the modern society, the vast amount of, complex, and artificial forms of information such as big-data is accounted for the majority and claims of interest focusing on how to effectively design those kinds of information are being increased. This study explored the visualization methods applied with the natural objects as motives as one of the ways for users to easily get their perception and cognition to the information. Nature has long influenced on the human figural activities. The natural objects take the optimum visual shapes and provide the diverse inspiration and emotion to the designers in the various design fields such as product design, architecture design, and so on. Through the literature studies, we suggested the compositional principles of natural objects and the principles for observing and analysing natural objects as a principle to use the natural objects for information design domain. We, also, suggested the information design approach model which is inspired the natural objects by linking those two kinds of principles to the information design's visual realization factors and explored the possibilities of utilizing of the approach model by the case studies.

  • Frontal sinus fractures, particularly anterior sinus fractures, are relatively common facial fractures. Many agree on the general principles of frontal fracture management; however, the optimal methods of reduction are controversial. The subbrow approach enables accurate reduction and internal fixation of the fractures in the anterior table of the frontal sinus by allowing direct visualization of the fracture. Given the surgical success in reduction and rigid fixation, patient satisfaction, and aesthetic benefits, the transcutaneous approach through a subbrow incision is superior to other reduction techniques used in the management of an anterior table frontal sinus fracture.

  • XML is a markup language which has been accepted in various fields such as digital libraries, electronic commerce, and web applications. Research for creation, storage, management, and retrieval of XML documents is essential to develope XML application systems. This paper presents design and implementation details of powerful and convenient DTD authoring tools for XML documents. The design principles are authoring convenience, semi-automatic creation of valid and reliable document DTD by systematic guidance to reduce the possibility of syntax errors, and visualization of document structures.
