A Study on "A Midsummer Night's Palace" Using VR Sound Engineering Technology

  • VR (Virtual Reality) contents make the audience perceive virtual space as real through the virtual Z axis which creates a space that could not be created in 2D due to the space between the eyes of the audience. This visual change has led to the need for technological changes to sound and sound sources inserted into VR contents. However, studies to increase immersion in VR contents are still more focused on scientific and visual fields. This is because composing and producing VR sounds require professional views in two areas: sound-based engineering and computer-based interactive sound engineering. Sound-based engineering is difficult to reflect changes in user interaction or time and space by directing the sound effects, script sound, and background music according to the storyboard organized by the director. However, it has the advantage of producing the sound effects, script sound, and background music in one track and not having to go through the coding phase. Computer-based interactive sound engineering, on the other hand, is produced in different files, including the sound effects, script sound, and background music. It can increase immersion by reflecting user interaction or time and space, but it can also suffer from noise cancelling and sound collisions. Therefore in this study, the following methods were devised and utilized to produce sound for VR contents called "A Midsummer Night" so as to take advantage of each sound-making technology. First, the storyboard is analyzed according to the user's interaction. It is to analyze sound effects, script sound, and background music which is required according to user interaction. Second, the sounds are classified and analyzed as 'simultaneous sound' and 'individual sound'. Thirdly, work on interaction coding for sound effects, script sound, and background music that were produced from the simultaneous sound and individual time sound categories is done. Then, the contents are completed by applying the sound to the video. By going through the process, sound quality inhibitors such as noise cancelling can be removed while allowing sound production that fits to user interaction and time and space.

  • 최근 인터넷에서 많은 관심을 보이고 있는 개인 미디어(UCC;User Created, Contents, VC2;Viewer Created Contents, 이하 UCC-사용자가 직접 제작한 미디어 콘텐츠를 불특정 다수에게 제공하는 서비스) 중에 비디오/오디오 콘텐츠를 영상 콘텐츠의 기본적인 매체라 할 수 있는 TV상에서 직접 즐길 수 있다면 미디어의 대상과 그 미디어의 Entertainment적인 효과는 배가될 것이다. 디지털 케이블 방송에서 UCC와 같은 다양하고 많은 미디어 콘텐츠를 디지털 TV상에서 서비스를 하고자 한다면 현재의 OCAP(OpenCable Application Plat form)기반에서는 RVOD(Real Video on Demand)와 동일한 서비스 모델을 가져야 하는 부담과 UCC 제공을 위한 방송 플랫폼별 인터페이스가 필요할 것이다. 이러한 문제점을 Return Path를 통한 RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol;RFC1889)을 이용해서 기존의 VoD(Video on Demand)스트림의 대역에서 분리하고 별도의 VOD프로토콜을 구현함으로써 라이브 방송환경과 동일한 인프라의 지속적인 확장보다는 일반적인 네트워크 프로토콜을 이용하여 VoD서비스를 위한 인프라에 많은 영향을 받지 않는 서비스가 가능할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 RTP를 위한 Set-Top-Box상의 다운로드 가능한 구조의 클래스 분석과 클라이언트 대응의 UCC Transcoding 및 전송을 위한 스트리밍 서버의 설계에 중점을 두고 경량화 된 VOD서비스 및 시스템을 설계함으로써 방송환경 하에 On-Demand서비스의 효율적인 확장성과 보다 많은 콘텐츠 등록 및 활용의 기회를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • The concept and discussion of copyright should reflect changes in using environments of digital properties and developments of technology. Further discussions are required about protection, transfer and usage of copyright for user created contents or digital activities. Digital archives should clarify the ranges of permitted usage or guides to quotation. One should not be biased toward regulating digital copying, but consider the value of diverse transformation of digital properties. This will trigger tension between private and public usage, or sharing of digital fabrications, which leads to the necessity of discussions on policy level. The interpretation of copyright is limited to protecting the copyright owner's right, but it should be suggested to widen the range to permitting fair use. The extended fair use of digital contents and by clarifying specific rules will activate creation and distribution of digital contents and contribute to more productive usage of innovation.

  • In this paper, the design of intelligent_advertisement_operation system(IAdOS) based on user's feedback is proposed for mobile environments. The proposed system stores the advertising contents created by the advertising provider and recommends the personalized advertising contents by analyzing the context information, and then feedback information of the advertisements. Since the proposed system which can recommends provide the smart advertisement contents based on personal preference, it is expected to contribute the new service model development of in the field of advertising market.

  • A guitar, a piano, and a violin are popular musical instruments for User Created Contents(UCC). However the patterns of audio signal generated by a guitar and a piano are too similar to differentiate. The difference between two musical instruments can be found by analyzing the frequency variation per each band near signal peaks. The distribution of probability on the existence of signal peaks based on Cumulative Histogram were applied to musical instrument recognition. Experiments with statistical models of the frequency variation per each band near signal peaks showed the 14% improvement of musical instrument recognition.

  • The reality is that forms and roles of media is changing as our society goes forward fast. There aren't any other noticeable media forms than one man media UCC(User Created Contents). Not only almost all of the house hold a camera at least one, but people can take a picture by using their mobile phone. Furthermore, people can produce a movie through taken pictures in this time. That is the beginning of UCC. It is possible to make use of private life, company, society, advertisement, shopping mall, and so on.

  • Today, various on-line services based on the Internet have been provided, and recently UCC(user created contents) have become more popular based on web 2.0. However researches on UCC prevailing among internet users have not been performed much yet. Therefore, we have conducted an empirical study to investigate the structural relationships among UCC characteristics, perceived usefulness, flow and intention to use in this study. After reviewing the related works we have derived three latent variables - system, contents, and user characteristics - as UCC characteristics. Structural Equation Model(SEM) has been used to analyze the structural relationships among characteristics of UCC, perceived usefulness, flow and intention to use. Managerial implications are also suggested for managing the UCC services in conclusion.

  • In this paper, on-demand service streaming protocol for user-created contents in digital cable broadcasting environment is considered. In order to provide variety media contents service like UCC in digital cable broadcasting environment, the same service model as RVOD(Real Video on Demand) is required and the different interface for each broadcasting platform is needed in a current OCAP environment. Using return path based RTP, we separate existing VOD stream band into broadcasting and VOD stream band. In order to broaden On-demand service, consistent expansion of the infrastructure same as live broadcasting system is inefficient in the digital cable broadcasting environment. Using existing network protocol, the service which is insensitive to the infrastructure for VOD service becomes possible. Therefore we considered the analysis of the class of download available structure in the Set-Top-Box for RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol) and designing the decoding available streaming server for UCC transcoding and transmission in the receiver. Designing a efficient VOD service and system under the broadcasting environment gives a expansion of On-Demand service and more chance to upload and utilization of contents.
