  • Generalized Pareto distributions play an important role in re-liability, extreme value theory, and other branches of applied probability and statistics. This family of distribution includes exponential distribution, Pareto distribution, and Power distribution. In this paper we establish some recurrences relations satisfied by the quotient moments of the upper record values from the generalized Pareto distribution. Further a char-acterization of this distribution based on recurrence relations of quotient moments of record values is presented.

  • Let { $X_{n}$ , n $\geq$ 1} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function F(x) and probability density function f(x). Let $Y_{n}$ = max{ $X_1$, $X_2$, …, $X_{n}$ } for n $\geq$ 1. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of { $X_{n}$ , n$\geq$1} if $Y_{j}$ > $Y_{j-1}$, j > 1. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times {u(n)}, n$\geq$1, where u(n) = min{j|j>u(n-1), $X_{j}$ > $X_{u}$ (n-1), n$\geq$2} and u(1) = 1. We call the random variable X $\in$ Beta (1, c) if the corresponding probability cumulative function F(x) of x is of the form F(x) = 1-(1-x)$^{c}$ , c>0, 0$\leq$x$\leq$1. In this paper, we will give a characterization of the beta distribution of the first kind by considering conditional expectations of record values.s.

  • This paper presents characterizations on the independence of the exponential and Pareto distributions by record values. Let ${X_{n},\;n {\ge1}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed(i.i.d) random variables with a continuous cumulative distribution function(cdf) F(x) and probability density function(pdf) f(x). $Let{\;}Y_{n} = max{X_1, X_2, \ldots, X_n}$ for n \ge 1. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of ${X_{n},{\;}n\ge 1}, if Y_{j} > Y_{j-1}, j > 1$. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times {u(n)}, n \ge 1, where u(n) = $min{j|j > u(n-1), X_{j} > X_{u(n-1)}, n \ge 2}$ and u(l) = 1. Then F(x) = $1 - e^{-\frac{x}{a}}$, x > 0, ${\sigma} > 0$ if and only if $\frac {X_u(_n)}{X_u(_{n+1})} and X_u(_{n+1}), n \ge 1$, are independent. Also F(x) = $1 - x^{-\theta}, x > 1, {\theta} > 0$ if and only if $\frac {X_u(_{n+1})}{X_u(_n)}{\;}and{\;} X_{u(n)},{\;} n {\ge} 1$, are independent.

  • Let {$X_n$, $n{\geq}1$} be a sequence of i.i.d. random variables with absolutely continuous cumulative distribution function(cdf) F(x) and the corresponding probability density function(pdf) f(x). In this paper, we give characterizations of Pareto and Weibull distribution by considering conditional expectations of record values.

  • Let {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$} be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with absolutely continuous cumulative distribution function (cdf) F(x) and probability density function (pdf) f(x). Suppose $X_{U(m)},\;m = 1,\;2,\;{\cdots}$ be the upper record values of {$X_{n},\;n\;\geq\;1$}. It is shown that the linearity of the conditional expectation of $X_{U(n+2)}$ given $X_{U(n)}$ characterizes the lomax, exponential and pareto distributions.

  • In this paper we establish some recurrence relations satisfied by quotient moments of upper record values from the Pareto distribution. Let {$X_n,n\qeq1$}be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function(cdf) F($chi$) and probability density function(pdf) f($chi$). Let $Y_n\;=\;mas{X_1,X_2,...,X_n}$ for $ngeq1$. We say $X_{j}$ is an upper record value of {$X_{n},n\geq1$}, if $Y_{j}$$Y_{j-1}$,j>1. The indices at which the upper record values occur are given by the record times ${u( n)}n,\geq1$, where u(n) = min{j|j >u(n-l), $X_{j}$$X_{u(n-1)}$,n\qeq2$ and u(l) = 1. Suppose $X{\epsilon}PAR(\frac{1}{\beta},\frac{1}{\beta}$ then E$(\frac{{X^\tau}}_{u(m)}}{{X^{s+1}}_{u(n)})\;=\;\frac{1}{s}E$ E$(\frac{{X^\tau}}_{u(m)}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - $\frac{(1+\betas)}{s}E(\frac{{X^\tau}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}}$ and E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}})$ = $\frac{1}{(r+1)\beta}$ [E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}}_u(m)}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - E$(\frac{{X^{\tau+1}}_u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n-1)}})$ - (r+1)E$(\frac{{X^\tau}_{u(m)}}{{X^s}_{u(n)}})$]

  • In this paper we establish some recurrence relations satisfied by quotient moments of upper record values from the power distribution. Let {$X_n$, $n{\geq}1$} be a sequence of independent an identically distributed random variables with a common continuous distribution function(cdf) $F(x)$ and probability density function(pdf) $f(x)$. Let $Y_n=max\{X_1,X_2,{\cdots},X_n\}$ for $n{\geq}1$. We say $X_j$ is an upper record value of {$X_n$, $n{\geq}1$}, if $Y_j$ > $Y_{j-1}$, $j$ > 1. • In this paper the estimation of the parameters as well as survival and hazard functions are presented for the two-parameter Pareto distribution by using Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches under upper record values. Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and interval estimation are derived for the parameters. Bayes estimators of reliability performances are obtained under symmetric (Squared error) and asymmetric (Linex and general entropy (GE)) losses, when two parameters have discrete and continuous priors, respectively. Finally, two numerical examples with real data set and simulated data, are presented to illustrate the proposed method. An algorithm is introduced to generate records data, then a simulation study is performed and different estimates results are compared.

  • In this paper, we derive maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and approximate MLEs (AMLEs) of the unknown parameters in a generalized half logistic distribution when the data are upper record values. As an illustration, we examine the validity of our estimation using real data and simulated data. Finally, we compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error (MSE) through a Monte Carlo simulation for various record values of size.

  • This paper presents characterizations of the Weibull distribution by the independence of record values. We prove that $X\;{\in}\;W\;EI ({\alpha})$, if and only if $\frac {X_{U(n+l)}} {X_{U(n+1)}\;+\;X_{U(n)}}$ and $X_{U(n+1)}$ for $n{\geq}1$ are independent or $\frac {X_{U(n)}} {X_{U(n+1)}\;+\;X_{U(n)}}$ and $X_{U(n+1)}$ for $n{\geq}1$ are independent. And also we establish that $X\;{\in}\;W\;EI({\alpha})$, if and only if $\frac {X_{U(n+1)}\;-\;X_{U(n)}} {X_{U(n+1)}\;+\;X_{U(n)}}$ and $X_{U(n+1)}$ for $n{\geq}1$ are independent.
