An Adaptive Equalizer for High-Speed Receiver using a CDR-Assisted All-Digital Jitter Measurement

  • An adaptive equalization scheme based on all-digital jitter measurement is proposed for a continuous time linear equalizer (CTLE) preceding a clock and data recovery (CDR) in a receiver circuit for high-speed serial interface. The optimum equalization coefficient of CTLE is determined during the initial training period based on the measured jitter. The proposed circuit finds automatically the optimum equalization coefficient for CTLE with 20", 30", 40" FR4 channel at the data rate of 5 Gbps. The chip area of the equalizer including the adaptive controller is 0.14 mm2 in a $0.13{\mu}m$ process. The equalizer consumes 12 mW at 1.2 V supply during the normal operation. The adaptive equalizer has been applied to a USB3.0 receiver.

  • 현재 스마트폰이나 태블릿PC 등의 터치화면 상에서 사용되는 한글 입력 방식은 qwerty, 나랏글, 천지인 등 시각 정보를 기반으로 만들어진 가상 키보드들이 사용되고 있다. 이는 시각에 문제가 없는 일반인 사용자에게는 효율적인 방식이지만 시각 장애인(시력장애, 시야 결손장애)들에게는 불편한 점이 있다. 이 문제를 개선하기 위하여 터치화면 상에서 손동작을 기반으로 한 한글 입력 방식을 제안한다. 이 방식은 사용자가 직접 기준 위치를 정하여 사용하므로 시각 정보가 제한된 상황에서도 입력할 수 있다. 또한, 이 방식은 사용자가 쉽게 배울 수 있도록 설계되었다. 모음 입력은 사용자가 쉽게 연상 되는 동작에 할당하였고, 자음 입력은 빈도수를 고려하여 자주 사용되는 자음은 편하게 움직일 수 있는 검지와 중지의 움직임에 주로 할당하였다.

  • For most of linear time-varying (LTV) systems, it is difficult to design time-varying controllers in analytic way. Accordingly, by approximating LTV systems as uncertain linear time-invariant, control design approaches such as robust control have been applied to the resulting uncertain LTI systems. In particular, a robust control method such as quantitative feedback theory (QFT) has an advantage of guaranteeing the frozen-time stability and the performance specification against plant parameter uncertainties. However, if these methods are applied to the approximated linear. time-invariant (LTI) plants with large uncertainty, the resulting control law becomes complicated and also may not become ineffective with faster dynamic behavior. In this paper, as a method to enhance the fast dynamic performance of LTV systems with bounded time-varying parameters, the approximated uncertainty of time-varying parameters are reduced by the proposed QFT parameter-scheduling control design based on radial basis function (RBF) networks.

Branched DNA-based Synthesis of Fluorescent Silver Nanocluster

  • While single strand DNAs have been widely used for the scaffold of brightly fluorescent silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs), double strand DNAs have not been as successful. Herein, we report a novel synthetic approach for bright Ag NCs using branched double strand DNAs as the scaffolds for synthesis. X-shaped DNA (X-DNA) and Y-shaped DNA (Y-DNA) effectively stabilized Ag NCs, and both X-DNA and Y-DNA resulted in brightly fluorescent Ag NCs. The concentration and molar ratio of silver and DNA were found important for the fluorescence efficiency. The brightest Ag NC with the photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 19.8% was obtained for the reaction condition of 10 ${\mu}M$ X-DNA, 70 ${\mu}M$ silver, and the reaction time of 48 h. The fluorescence lifetime was about 2 ns for the Ag NCs and was also slightly dependent on the synthetic condition. Addition of Cu ions at the Ag NC preparations resulted in the quenching of Ag NC fluorescence, which was different to the brightening cases of single strand DNA stabilized Ag NCs.

  • This paper considers a state set estimation (SSE) based model predictive control (MPC) for linear parameter- varying (LPV) systems with input constraint. We estimate, at each time instant, a feasible set of all states which are consistent with system model, measurements and a priori information, rather than the state itself. By combining a state-feedback MPC and an SSE, we design an SSE-based MPC algorithm that stabilizes the closed-loop system. The proposed algorithm is solved by semi-de�nite program involving linear matrix inequalities. A numerical example is included to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • In the present paper we propose a new method of intermediate view reconstruction between stereo images using belief propagation_based stereo matching. Intermediate view reconstruction is an important step for multiview 3D display. Many previous paper about intermediate view reconstruction using depth information to synthesize interview though stereo matching were proposed. But depth information is different to estimated accurately. In the present paper, in order to obtain accurate depth information, belief propagation_based stereo matching was used.

  • Virtual reality technology is very useful for the 21C science education, and is able to contribute to the development of new teaching and learning methods in science education. One of these computer-based technologies, virtual reality, is possible to use in many directions. It is a new communication medium that is receiving a lot of attention, and is usually identified by a collection of technological hardware. Virtual reality is defined as a highly interactive, computer-based, multimedia environment in which the user becomes the participant, with the computer in a virtual real world. A key feature of virtual reality is real-time interactivity, in that the computer is able to detect user inputs and instantaneously modify the virtual world. It is being used in a wide variety of fields including physics, chemistry, human biology, biomedical sciences, military, architecture, industry and the entertainment. In classroom, using science educational program developed by virtual reality technology can increase the interests of students, promote understanding of basic science concepts, help laboratory skills, and encourage creative learning for them.

  • Single-electron transistor (SET)-based logic cells and SET/FET hybrid integrated circuits have been fabricated on SOI chips. The input-output voltage transfer characteristic of the SET-based complementary logic cell shows an inverting behavior where the output voltage gain is estimated to be about 1.2 at 4.2K. The SET/FET output driver, consisting of one SET and three FETs, yields a high voltage gain of 13 and power amplification with a wide-range output window for driving next circuit. Finally, the SET/FET literal gate for a multi-valued logic cell, comprising of an SET, an FET and a constant-current load, displays a periodic voltage output of high/low level multiple switching with a swing as high as 200mV. The multiple switching functionality of all the fabricated logic circuits could be enhanced by utilizing a side gate incorporated to each SET component to enable the phase control of Coulomb oscillations, which is one of the unique characteristics of the SET-based logic circuits.

  • The present study demonstrates the effect of raw powder on the pore structure of porous W-Ni prepared by freeze drying of camphene-based slurries and sintering process. The reduction behavior of $WO_3$ and $WO_3-NiO$ powders is analyzed by a temperature programmed reduction method in Ar-10% H2 atmosphere. After heat treatment in hydrogen atmosphere, $WO_3-NiO$ powder mixture is completely converted to metallic W without any reaction phases. Camphene slurries with oxide powders are frozen at $-30^{\circ}C$, and pores in the frozen specimens are generated by sublimation of the camphene during drying in air. The green bodies are hydrogen-reduced at $800^{\circ}C$ and sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The sintered samples show large and aligned parallel pores to the camphene growth direction, and small pores in the internal wall of large pores. The strut between large pores, prepared from pure $WO_3$ powder, consists of very fine particles with partially necking between the particles. In contrast, the strut densification is clearly observed in the Ni-added W sample due to the enhanced mass transport in activation sintering.
