The Development and Application of a External Coating for Buried Pipeline Rehabilitation

  • With the development of Chinese petroleum and gas industry, about 20,000 km long-distance pipeline and 250,000 km gathering pipeline have been constructed in China. After operating for many years, most of the coatings on buried pipelines have aged so severe that the steel pipes are subject to corrosion environment underground. Focusing on the need of external coating for buried pipeline rehabilitation, a new type of coating has been developed. The development and application of the coatings has been introduced in this paper.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the important evaluatio items for developing the environmental sustainability indices of housing estate. In this research, the principles of environmental sustainability were established on the concept of ESSD, and twenty-two evaluation items were explored on the basis of questionnaire of experts, the twenty-two items are ranked in order of iportant level and it is a appeared that 'development density' is most iportant evaluation item. In conclusion, twelve important items were selectd; 'development density', 'preservation of natural forest and topography' , 'amount of green area', 'reduction of water pollution','reuse of wastes','garbage discharge','reduction of air pollution','distribution of land use','rainwater infiltraton and preservaton of underground water','site planning for energy saving','separated collection of wastes','access to natural forest andwaters around housing estate'

  • The fact that the major cases of life casualties are from smoke in the fire accidents and the expected steep increase of skyscrapers, huge spaces, multiplexes and huge scaled underground spaces demand establishment of efficient smoke countermeasure. The core technology for development of smoke management system is analysis tool of fan used in pressure differential system. The development of analysis technology on sirroco-typed fan using experimental and numerical methods are carried out to evaluate the features and performance of fan used in pressure differential systems.

  • Various analytical, empirical and theoretical methods for slope stability assessment were applied on slopes to develop aggregate quarry optimally. Among them are block theory, stereographic analysis, RMR, SMR, limit equilibrium method and maximum likelihood. Test site was estimated that slopes were apt to fail although rock quality was good. Modified direction and dip angle was suggested for stability. To reduce the overbreak and to improve the stability, the vertical blasting was recommended for new subground level.

  • This study was carried out to develope dehumidifier using underground water for controling moisture in greenhouse. The dehumidifier was designed as horizontal shell type condenser, and experiment was carried out with evaporative cooling system. In shading condition, evaporative cooling with the dehumidifier makes decrease of relative humidity and temperature in the down place of greenhouse than without dehumidifier, so it is expect that the dehumidifier is useful for effective evaporative cooling.

  • The objective of this study is to develop the CAD system for 2 cell box culvert by ultimate strength design method. C-language & AutoCAD Rl2 were used to create user-friendly computing environment. Consequently, users can easily design 2 cell box culvert under the various conditions, such as design load, total fill depth, underground water level, strength of concrete, and so forth. This system is believed to improve the efficiency and economy by the batch processing of structural analysis, quick drafting and computation of material quantity in the 2 cell box culvert design.

  • Construction incidents, mechanisms and causes in Geotechnical Engineering have been closely reviewed for the safety assurance during design and construction stages. The safety assurance is clearly related to the observational method in which design is reviewed during construction and contingency actions are undertaken successfully to minimise any potential failures. The observational method has been extensively applied for the construction of subways underground structures, dams and many important Civil Engineering projects in the past 20 years. But the number of serious construction incidents are growing for the past several decades. Therefore present development of observational method and improvement techniques are introduced with some case histories.
