Multiple fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) have been proposed and demonstrated for gas-flow measurements in a flow channel, using the temperature-difference method. This sensor consists of two FBG temperature sensors and two coil heaters. Coil heaters are used to heat the FBGs. The flow rate of the gas can be obtained by monitoring the difference in the Bragg-wavelength shifts of the two FBGs, which has features that exclude the effect of temperature fluctuations. In this study, experiments are conducted to measure the wavelength shift based on the flow rate, and to evaluate the gas-flow rate in a gas tube. Experimental results show that the sensor has a linear characteristic over a flow-rate range from 0 to 25 ℓ/min. The measured sensitivity of the sensor is 3.2 pm/(ℓ/min) at a coil current of 120 mA.

Environment has become a main issue nowadays. People began to show big interest in "futuristic means of transportation", which is an efficient method in $CO_2$ emissions reduction and decreasing use of oil. Due to the noise and emissions of two-wheel vehicle of internal combustion engine, electric two-wheeled vehicles have been supplied in downtown. The electric two-wheeled vehicles use battery as power source. The performance of lithium-ion battery changes as the ambient temperature changes. In this paper, analysis of performance variance of electric two-wheeled vehicles influenced by the temperature using the chassis dynamometer and the environmental chamber was carried out.

In this study, two different technologies which can measure temperature simultaneously at many points are introduced. One is to use a thermal sensor cable that is comprised of addressable thermal sensors connected in parallel within a single cable. The other is to use an optic fiber with Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) system. The difference between two technologies can be summarized as follows. A thermal sensor cable has a concept of 'point sensing' that can measure temperature at accurate position of a thermal sensor. So the accuracy and resolution of temperature measurement are up to the ability of the thermal sensor. Whereas optic fiber sensor has a concept of 'distributed sensing' because temperature is measured by ratio of Stokes and anti-Stokes component intensities of Raman backscatter that is generated when laser pulse travels along an optic fiber. It's resolution is determined by measuring distance, measuring time and spatial resolution. The purpose of this study is that application targets of two temperature measurement techniques are checked in technical and economical phases by examining the strength and weakness of them. Considering the functions and characteristics of two techniques, the thermal sensor cable will be suitable to apply to the assessment of groundwater flow, geothermal distribution and grouting efficiency within 300m distance. It is expected that the optic fiber sensor can be widely utilized at various fields (for example: pipe line inspection, tunnel fire detection, power line monitoring etc.) which need an information of temperature distribution over relatively long distance.

A quantitative flow visualization technique was developed to measure velocity and temperature fields simultaneously in a two-dimensional cross section of thermo-fluid flows. Thermochromic liquid crystal(TLC) particles are used as temperature sensor and velocity tracers. Illuminating a thermo-fluid flow with a thin sheet of white light, the reflected colors from the TLC particles in the flow were captured simultaneously by two CCD cameras; a 3-chip CCD color camera for temperature field measurement and a black and white CCD camera for velocity field measurement. Variations of temperature field were measured by using a HSI true color image processing system and TLC solution. The relationship between the hue values of TLC color image and real temperature was obtained and this calibration curve was used to measure the true temperature under the same camera and illumination condition. The velocity field was obtained by using a 2-frame PTV technique using the concept of match-probability to track true velocity vectors from two consecutive image frames. These two techniques were applied at the same time to the unsteady thermal-fluid flow in a Hele-Shaw cell to measure the temperature and velocity field simultaneously and some results are discussed.

Robinson with ${coworkers}^{1}$ have introduced two-state outer-neighbor bonding model to explain the anomalies of water. The studies on the properties of water as a function of temperature and pressure revealed that, unlike other ideas, all $H_2O$ molecules in liquid are tetrabonded. On the average they are forming two different bonding types. One type is the regular tetrahedral water-water bonding similar to that found in the ordinary ice Ih, whereas the other is a more dense nonregular tetrahedral bonding similar to that appearing in the ice II. The transformation between these two bonding forms is evidenced by FT-NIR experiment. The FT-NIR measurements were done for liquid water in the temperature range from $20^{\circ}C$ up to $80^{\circ}C$ in a wide extent of frequencies: 12 000 - 4000 $cm^{-1}$ /. Temperature dependent variations in the volume fraction of these two structures are directly related to the spectral changes. The absorbance variations are explored by means of the two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS), principal component analysis (PCA), curve fitting and second derivatives. The presence of the isosbestic points in a range of the combination and overtone transitions indicates that the experimental spectra are a superposition of two temperature independent components. One component of diminishing intensity with temperature increase, is assigned to a stronger hydrogen bonds occurred in the Ih type, whereas the second component showing an opposite behavior, one can attribute to a weaker H-bonds characteristic for the II type. The understanding of the hydrogen bonding network in the liquid water is very important in interpretation of the interaction between water and protein chain. The two-state model of water surrounding the protein surface could advance an understanding of the hydration process.
The surface temperature at the interface of bodies in a sliding contact is one of the most important factors influencing the behavior of machine components. The calculation of the surface temperature at a sliding contact interface has been an interesting and important subject for tribologist. Temperature analyses were usually performed under the consideration contacted two bodies as semi-infinite. But the analysis was difficulty in being applied to finite body and considering the boundary condition. In this study, contact temperature rise of two finite bodies and surfaces due to frictional heating under the rectangular and the circular sliding contact is calculated. Heat partition factor is calculated using semi-infinite solid analysis and the temperature of the finite bodies is calculated using FVM. It will be shown that Most frictional heat in the fore part of contact region for sliding direction is conducted into body that has a moving heat source and the site of the maximum temperature rise moves to the opposite direction of sliding during sliding.
A relation between temperature and time has been constructed in the self-consistent model(SCM). This relation is used to calculate the a CMBR temperature. This temperature has been found to be 2.9K. The temperature gradient of microwave background radiation(CMBR) is calculated in the Self Consistent Model. Two relations between Hubble parameter and time derivative of the temperature, have been presented in two different cases. In the first case the temperature is treated as a function of time only, while in the other one, it is assumed to be a function in time and solid angle, beside the assumption that the universe expands adiabatically.
Damage detection based on a reference set of measured data usually has the problem of different environmental temperature in the two sets of measurements, and the effect of temperature difference is usually ignored in the subsequent model updating. This paper attempts to identify the structural damage including the temperature difference with artificial measurement noise. Both local damages and the temperature difference are identified in a gradient-based model updating method based on dynamic response sensitivity. The sensitivities of dynamic response with respect to the system parameters and temperature difference are calculated by direct integration method. The measured dynamic responses of the structure from two different states are used directly to identify the structural local damages and the temperature difference. A single degree-of-freedom mass-spring system and a planar truss structure are studied to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, 'lifetime-temperature rise model' based on the 'lifetime-resistance model' is theoretically Proposed, in order to find out the evaluation method of degradation and the residual lifetime by use of infrared image camera for electric connections/contacts. Two assumptions have been builded up for the 'lifetime-temperature rise model': one is associated with the linear relationship between the temperature ism ΔK and contact resistance, and the other the functional relationship between the temperature of electric connections/contacts and the operating time presenting in the 'lifetime-resistance model'. To prove the proposed model, experiments have been performed for various electric connections/contacts. From the experimental results, measured values were quite similar to the calculated values, which proved the above-mentioned two assumptions. Therefore, by use of 'lifetime-temperature rise model', it is possible to estimate the trend of degradation and the residual lifetime for electric connections/contacts through the temperature measurements .
