The Null Distribution of the Likelihood Ratio Test for a Mixture of Two Gammas

  • We investigate the distribution of likelihood ratio test(LRT) of null hypothesis a sample is from single gamma with unknown shape and scale against the alternative hypothesis a sample is from a mixture of two gammas, each with unknown scale and unknown (but equal) scale. To obtain stable maximum likelihood estimates(MLE) of a mixture of two gamma distributions, the EM(Dempster, Laird, and Robin(1977))and Modified Newton(Jensen and Johansen(1991)) algorithms were implemented. Based on EM, we made a simple structure likelihood equation for each parameter and could obtain stable solution by Modified Newton Algorithms. Simulation study was conducted to investigate the distribution of LRT for sample size n = 25, 50, 75, 100, 50, 200, 300, 400, 500 with 2500 replications. To determine the small sample distribution of LRT, I considered the model of a gamma distribution with shape parameter equal to 1 + f(n) and scale parameter equal to 2. The simulation results indicate that the null distribution is essentially invariant to the value of the shape parameter. Modeling of the null distribution indicates that it is well approximated by a gamma distribution with shape parameter equal to the quantity $0.927+1.18/\sqrt{n}$ and scale parameter equal to 2.16.

Some versatile tests based on percentile tests

  • In this paper, we consider a versatile test based on percentile tests. The versatile test may be useful when the underlying distributions are unknown or quite different types. We consider two kinds of combining functions for the percentile statistics, the quadratic and summing forms and obtain the limiting distributions under the null hypothesis. Then we illustrate our procedure with an example. Finally we discuss some interesting features of the test as concluding remarks.

The sequential test of two treatments when subjects are paired in many-to-one ratio

  • A class of sequential binomial tests and a sequential rank test can be applied for testing two treatments when subjects are paired in many-to-one ratio. The efficiency of each test is examined in terms of the average sample number. The binomial tests are much easier and more convenient to apply than the rank test not as efficient. Within the class of binomial test, the median test appears to be the most efficient is general.

  • The most common type of microarray experiment has a simple design using microarray data obtained from two different groups or conditions. A typical method to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between two conditions is the conventional Student's t-test. The t-test is based on the simple estimation of the population variance for a gene using the sample variance of its expression levels. Although empirical Bayes approach improves on the t-statistic by not giving a high rank to genes only because they have a small sample variance, the basic assumption for this is same as the ordinary t-test which is the equality of variances across experimental groups. The t-test and empirical Bayes approach suffer from low statistical power because of the assumption of normal and unimodal distributions for the microarray data analysis. We propose a method to address these problems that is robust to outliers or skewed data, while maintaining the advantages of the classical t-test or modified t-statistics. The resulting data transformation to fit the normality assumption increases the statistical power for identifying DEGs using these statistics.

생사연감검사에 관한 기초시험 (Fundamental Studies on the Boiling off Test of Raw Silk)

  • 1. 연감시료량의 적정량을 알아보기 위해 200, 100, 50, 20, 10gr의 생사시료를 연감검사한 결과 각처리간에는 통계적차이를 인정할 수 없었으나 실제로 시료량의 과대 과소에 따른 측정 및 처리오차를 감안할 때 100gr 시료가 적정량이었다. 2. 섬도사를 이용하여 연감검사를 할 경우 꼬인 상태와 풀은 상태로 연감처리할 경우 탄산나트륨같이 제교력이 강한 정연제에서는 차이가 없었으나 Marseilles 비누같이 제교력이 약한 것은 연감율에 있서 현저한 차이가 있었다. 3. 5종의 정연제를 비교한 결과 합성세제와 국산 Marseilles비누와 통계적 유의차를 인정 할 수 없으므로 이와의 대체 이용이 가능하다. 4. 정연제의 제교력은 대체로 정연액의 PH가 클수록 크고 작을수록 작은 경향이 있다.

  • 일반적으로 각 N개의 모집단에서 2개 이상의 표본이 추출되었을 때, $H_0:{\mu}_1={\cdots}={\mu}_N$의 가설에 대하여 검정할 수 있지만 각 모집단으로부터 표본이 한 개씩 추출된다면 ${\bar{X}}$가 존재하지 않으므로 모평균의 차이 검정은 불가능하다. 하지만 하나씩 추출된 표본으로 구성된 집단을 두 집단으로 나누어 임의의 평균을 생성함으로써 평균의 차이를 비교한다면 표본들 사이에 존재할 수 있는 이질성을 파악할 수 있다. 따라서 우리는 두 집단으로 나눌 수 있는 조합의 수만큼 평균 차이를 검정할 수 있는 최소 조합 t-검정 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 최종적으로 본 논문에서는 한 개씩 추출된 표본들 사이의 이질성을 확인하기 위하여 평균 차이를 검정할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였고 모의실험 연구를 통해 성능을 확인하였고 실제 자료 분석을 통해 결과를 도출하였다.

Comparison of RPR Card and Mediace RPR test by KFDA Guideline

  • Syphilis is an infectious and sexually transmitted chronic disease caused by Treponema pallidum. On the basis of clinical findings, the disease has been divided into a series of overlapping stages, which are used to help guide treatment and follow-up. Persons who have syphilis might seek treatment for signs or symptoms of primary infection, secondary infection and tertiary infection. Latent infections are detected by serologic testing. A presumptive diagnosis of syphilis is possible with the use of two types of serologic tests: nontreponemal tests and treponemal tests assay. The use of only one type of serologic test is insufficient for diagnosis, because each type of test has limitations, including the possibility of false-positive test results in persons without syphilis. KFDA published Koreans guideline of Sexually transmitted infections in 2011. Two hundred samples were tested by RPR card test and Mediace RPR test with simultaneously. The agreement between RPR card test and Mediace RPR test was 95%, the discrepant samples was 5%. The characteristics of 10 discrepant samples was RPR card Positive and Mediace RPR negative nine samples, RPR card negative and Mediace RPR positive one sample. The nine samples were confirmed as FTA-ABS by KFDA guideline of syphilis test algorism, all IgM test was Negative, all IgG test was reactive. So, these cases were past or latent syphilis. The one sample was false-positive reaction.

Two Sequential Wilcoxon Tests for Scale Alternatives

  • Two truncated sequential tests are developed for the two-sample scale problem based on the usual Wilcoxon rank-sum statistic for two different dispersion indices - absolute median deviations, when the medians of the two populations X and Y are equal or known and sums of squared mean deviations, when the medians are either unknown or unequal. The first test is briefly called SWAMD test and the second SWSMD test. For the SWAMD test, the percentile points for both the one-sided and two-sided alternatives, (equation omitted) have been found by Wiener approximation and their values computed for a range of values of a and N; analytical expression for the power function has been derived through Wiener process and its performance studied for various sequential designs for exponential distribution. This test has been illustrated by a numerical example. All the results of the SWAMD test, being directly applicable to the SWSMD test, are not dealt with separately Both the tests are compared and their suitable applications indicated.

기계류부품 신뢰성보증을 위한 2단계 시험방식 설계 (A Two-stage Reliability Demonstration Test for Mechanical Components)

  • In the fields of mechanical reliability application, "zero" or "zero or one" failure tests are most commonly used for demonstrating reliability of a product since they reduce test duration and/or sample size compared to other test methods that guarantees the same reliability of a product with a given confidence level or consumer's risk. The test duration of the "zero or one" failure test is longer than that of "zero" failure test but it has advantage of smaller producer's risk. In this paper a two-stage test is developed that compromises the "zero" and "zero or one" failure tests. The properties of the proposed two-stage test are investigated and the three test methods are compared using a numerical example.

전산화단층촬영검사와 일반촬영검사의 방사선 선량에 대한 인식도 조사 (The Survey for Awareness of Radiation Dose of CT and General X-ray Examination)

  • 서울소재 'S'병원에서 근무중인 방사선사를 대상으로 병원 근무경력 및 CT검사실 근무 경험 유 무, 현재 사용하고 있는 방사선 선원의 종류에 따른 CT검사와 일반촬영검사의 방사선 선량과 위험성에 관한 인식도 조사를 통해 CT검사의 위험성에 대한 각성을 위한 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 영상의학과에 근무하는 방사선사 중 131명을 대상으로 설문지를 통해 연구가설 검정을 위한 자료를 수집하였고, 설문문항의 Cronbach @계수는0.825988과0.767161로 나타났으며, p-value의 기각률은<0.05로 하였다. 연구가설검정을 위해 SAS 9.1(SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA.)통계패키지를 이용하여 Mann-Whitney test와 Kruskai-Wallis test, Two sample T-test, Two sample T-test with Bonferroni's Correction, One-way ANOVA 통계분석방법 등을 이용하였다. CT검사와 일반촬영의 선량에 관한 가설의 각 p-value 값은 0.2291~0.9663의 범위로 나타났고, CT검사와 일반촬영검사의 위험성에 관한 가설의 각 p-value 값은 0.1924~1.0000의 범위로 나타났다. 모든 연구가설의 p-value값이 기각률(<0.05)을 상위하여 나타났으며, 현재 'S'병원에 근무중인 방사선사들은 근무경력 및 CT검사실 근무경력 유무, 현재 사용하는 방사선 선원의 종류에 관계없이 일반촬영 보다 CT검사가 선량이 많으며, 위험하다고 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
